WTS: 5+ lbs of H335, 2,000 Winchester large rifle primers
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to ruppart's topic in Classified Ads
PM me if the 335 is not sold, I will take it. -
Keep in mind I am packing all my gear on my back so carrying extra is not an option. As far as Bipods I have one on every gun but will remove them now before going hunting. On our pig hunt we could not get a shooting lane anywhere without standing. Prone was just not going to happen with all the vegetation, most of the trees we could grab were thorns or so bushy you couldnt get to the stable branches, Tripod would be the ticket I believe, if bipod would work then my pack with suffice for that.

I have not been hunting long, I have said that before, I have 4 points for Elk but have only been in the field hunting for 3 years mostly archery, I guess I have been lucky but then again my hunting has all been more than 4 miles from my truck and always involves camp on my back or on my mules, the only traditional camp hunting has been with buddies on their hunts or one time with my kids (the one time with kids we hiked 5 miles form camp and never saw one hunter in 4 days). I would say out of 30 full days in the field hunting I have seen maybe 4 hunters and they never knew i was there. Maybe not lucky because I go out of my way to get deep and solitary. Hard work has paid off. When I am running by way of head lamp tonight on a 5.2 mile loop before family dinner what will you be doing??? Maybe loading half your belongings in a toy hauler to go park next to other toy haulers and complain about how many tags there are??? This is not directed at anyone just a motivator, Work hard go deep and Group A or B will be no where around, just you and hopefully your quarry. Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else is watching- even when doing the wrong thing is legal "Aldo"

Ditto on seven spring deer, I ride down there often and see them on or near the course. Wickenburg I. Have seen them many times on los cabaleros course.

I learned pretty quick last year with pig hunting and rifle deer with buddies that bipod is almost useless, This year I am using my pack as a bipod if needed and using my tripod for my spotting scope and for rifle rest. We will see what happens. I figured I am carrying my pack and tripod anyway.

First Buck Down! Chapter 2
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to Elkhunter1's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
NIce bunch of hunting, congrats. -
First of all the kill shot means nothing, its first blood that takes the kill. Second of all I will just thank god that I can hike or ride away form this kind of thing, doesnt sound like hunting in the least to me. I would rather put my !@#@!&^ in a meat grinder than go after a possibly ounce in a lifetime Bull elk dream tag and have even 1 other hunter anywhere in the area. I like the way the story was written though, well done.

Good deal congrats, 100+ for the next one.

I say discuss it with them and lay out the different mindsets of people who hunt and then let them decide. On a similar note what about hunting at all??? My kids are not really into it and I am not sure I will be doing much more hunting with them, I am conflicted here because we have such a good time and they do enjoy it but they don't participate until hunt day, they don't discuss it with me they don't look to see when to put in, etc etc. When I was a kid I used to clean the boat organize the tackle and poles, get bait while shopping with mom, and be up before dad making coffee just for a half day on the water and I was 9 yrs old.

Couple of reloading questions
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to Dodger2's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Winchester brass is known for being thicker as well and may be part of the issue, definately heated barrel helped them load. I would start measuring diameters on the loaded rounds. I would guess your Win brass is larger at the neck than the Fed. Look into neck turning also if your going to be neck sizing, the thickness varies as you check around the neck so when you neck size you will get different internal diameters and your bullet press will be different. This can cause the neck outer diameter to be larger after putting the bullet in. I neck turn my important long range rounds and then neck size but I still pin check every round for a press of .001 and under. I leave my bullets long and let the chamber set the depth. Military brass is thicker as well and messes with your case capacity so you get less air space so this is why guys weigh brass into lots after all prep work is done, it is figured you get the same wall thickness if they weigh the same. I use K&M shooting supply Turner by the way. Works great. I make my own cutters so I can bump the angle right and eliminate any doughnut issues. -
Dude, buiscuts and Gravy at Mike and Rhondas out of this world. I dont know about their butchering but breakfast rocks there.
