I have been working on sweetening up a couple of Mauser model 2000 rifles and was having an issue finding bases for them, they have never had a scope mounted on them. Anyway after some measuring to see if there was compatible units out there I realized the dimensions didnt match even what they were supposed to be for the model 2000 and also didnt match anything out there. Well easy enough I went with the bases I wanted and was able to get them undrilled so I can put the holes in myself and where they are supposed to be. Now I went looking further and found several of my other guns and friends guns where the accuracy of the mounting holes is subpar. Not only are they not on center of the action but the spreads are off. You can still mount the base but it will bind up and each screw will fight the others, then in some cases they are off center. I will be making adjustments to my bases to allow for the off center and my friends have requested the same for their guns. Just an FYI guys, to me it looks like the bases are pretty good but some actions including high end actions are not perfect as we would like. With some of the very sweet rigs on here this is one more little item that can make the difference shooting way way out there.

if you have the spring archery bear tag, you had better hurry up!

to me if it was really fire danger why would they leave it open for this weekend? there will be more folks up there this weekend then maybe any other so lets leave it open when its most risky then close it when no one is going up? makes no sense at all if there is extreme danger. -

Thanks for the comments, Bill I will be checking that book out for sure, I am a big reader and cant get enough of outdoor real life writing. Sounds like a life packed with stories, I have a few myself and plan on making a few books worth in the years to come. Seems like every time you take off with mules you have a shot at o good story. No doubt they know exactly whats going on around them and forget trying to make them do anything they dont want to do. The trick I am told it to make them think it was their idea in the first place. I know for now the trick with any animal packing meat is to get it wrapped and on them asap before any smell starts, a very fresh kill smells clean and fresh like earthy even and it doesnt bother mine, but a few hours later they know something is not right and get nervous. Heading out this weekend to try and find some Yotes to hang over the fence and work them into meat packing some more. They have an elk hide on the fence at their water tank at all times for now. That guard mule thing is true, although they do have flight in them they will fight just as often, I had a dog come at us one time and dammed if my big mule didnt turn nose to nose with this Pit and fire off a few jabs with his front right, that dog put the breaks on right now and decided we could proceed without further interuption. LOL I honeslty think had that dog came closer it would have been dead.

ya way too much but in my mind its ounce in a lifetime trip for 3 months 600 miles into the bush, not towing up the rim to park next to 15 other houses on wheels 300 ft from a road.

Notice to hunters regarding the recent designation of jaguar critical habitat The Arizona Game and Fish Department has been receiving inquiries from concerned hunters about the impact the recent designation of jaguar critical habitat in southern Arizona will have on hunting in the designated area. To help address these questions, the department has prepared the following information: On April 4, 2014, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared almost 760,000 acres in southern Arizona as critical habitat for the jaguar, a species that was listed as endangered in 1972. With this listing, jaguars have been afforded complete protection in the United States. This species is also listed as endangered in Mexico. To assess the potential impacts to hunting or other outdoor recreation activities like off-highway vehicle use, the department reviewed the new rule and concluded that hunting is unlikely to be affected. The federal rule that designates critical habitat status does not include any reference to restrictions on recreation opportunities including hunting. “One of the elements of the critical habitat rule is the need to maintain adequate prey base for jaguars with specific mention of deer and javelina. Game and Fish has already addressed this in its current management program for the area, so there is no direct impact to department activities,” says Jim deVos, the department’s assistant director of wildlife management. “In trying to understand the impact of the designation on outdoor recreationists, including hunters, it is important to remember that jaguars are already fully protected by both state and federal laws and the rule doesn’t add any restrictions to people that are legally licensed to hunt.” One of the stated purposes for designating critical habitat for jaguars was to ensure, to the extent possible, that movement corridors are maintained between the U.S. and Mexico where the closest jaguar population lives about 130 miles south of the international border. The designation points out that the number of jaguars in Arizona is very small with only six or seven different jaguars documented in the U.S. since 1982. However, maintaining habitat connectivity is important if the number of jaguars were to increase in Arizona. There are a few restrictions in the designated area, but they affect major actions such as development of high-traffic volume roads or similar large-scale projects, and not activities of individuals.
