    Roosevelt Crappie

We hit Roosevelt today looking to catch some crappies. Fishing was a little slow but we still did alright. Fish were caught trolling in the salt end. Pretty nice day with a little breeze. Water is really chocolate with a lot of debris in the water. Here are a couple pics of some of the fish we caught today. Brian

  14. After four days of hunting, freezing, and fighting bitter cold winds, I was able to take my 2013 buck yesterday at straight up noon. He came through pushing and chasing two does and a fawn. After a few minutes of wondering if I was going to get my chance at him since he wouldn't slow down chasing he finally got into a shooting position at 13 yards. I drew my bow but he spooked a little on the draw and made a 30 yard circle and couldn't help resisting the chance to chase a doe. He pushed her right in front of me in the same spot, I was still at full draw, picked a spot, and center punched him right behind the shoulder. I gave him an hour, as I was pinned down by two other bucks moving in and chasing his does all around me. I didn't want to spook them so I just sat waiting for the bucks to chase them out of the area. After finding my buck and upon further inspection on him, he had two big bald spots on his left side, a three in gash on one of his hind legs, a big gore hole in each hip, one ear that was split all to heck, and bruises all over his body. I don't think he found a fight he didn't like. It was a great hunt even though it was so cold. I'm very happy with archery coues #10. Still working on getting a good buck for one of my friends that is hunting with me. He has been close on some great bucks but just has not quite got the right opportunity yet. Plus I still have a pig to chase if I can quit chasing deer long enough to go . Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone else out there. Stay warm. Brian

    San Carlos Lake re-opened

It'll come back if the water levels will allow it and not do what it did last year every couple years. Bass and crappie should be back good in 4-5 years if and only if water levels stay healthy. Going to miss my lake for a while . Brian

    Rocky Sheep Video

While out javelina hunting a couple days ago, I was fortunate enough to see these sheep and I was able to get a little video footage of them before they topped over the ridge. Footage is a little raw and jumpy at times, but I though some of you might like seeing it. Brian
  18. I haven't been able to get out and do any calling all fall and winter, so this morning I had some time and decided to hit a few spots. At my third stand, I had a fox come in to 17 yards, down he went. Then three minutes later a second fox shows up at 12 yards and down he goes. Good morning. Here is a pic. Brian

    Morning Foxes!

I reload my own shells and they are just #4 copperplated shot. It's what I always used and works good.

    2013 Archery Javelina

"Could they be any farther away." That is what I told myself when I glassed up a group of 13 pigs at 8:40 this morning. There was no way I was going to get them from where I was at as there was no way off the bluff. So I had to load up and circle way around below them to even have a chance. When I got down below them and looked in the direction I was going to have to go, again I asked myself "Could they be any farther away and do I really want to do this." As soon as I finished saying that to myself, I was loaded up and off I went. There was a knob about half way there that I decided to get on top of to see if I could relocate the herd. I decided that if I couldn't find them then I would go no further. I set up on the knob with my tripod and 15s and was glad to see that I could at least see the ridge that they were supposed to on. It is now 10 am and they were not where I last saw them. So a little more glassing, and there they were, and wouldn't you know it they moved about 3/4 of a mile more up the ridge away from me. The names that raced through my mind that I was calling these pigs as I looked up where they were at. So I packed up my stuff and headed towards them. I got to where I thought I was below them, shed my pack and some clothes and got my binos out to relocate them. They were still there straight above me at the top of the ridge. I eased up a finger with the wind right, out of sight of the herd while keeping an eye on the top of a saguaro that they were by for reference. When I got even with the saguaro I eased over the finger seeing the pigs right where I left them and I was on the same level as they were. I start making my way toward them, when they started feeding right to me. I held my ground when a nice big pig stepped out at 15 yards. I drew and released and my arrow hit home. The pig went about 10 yards and piled up. After I reached my trophy, I looked back in the direction where the truck was and said " Could the truck be any further away. :)" It was now 11 am. I brought the pig down to my pack and took some pics, got my pig strap tied on and headed out. I reached the truck at 1pm and told myseft "Never again will I go after a pig that far away." Laughing to myself as I said knowing full well I would. So here he is. My pig. Brian
