My fox pro has 2 fox sounds grey and red fox, may be a stupid question but which fox call would I use Grey fox. But don't be afraid to use sounds that are not normally associated with animals in AZ. You would be surprised at what works good. You can also download other grey fox sounds from fox pro. I don't go out without a full arsenal of fox sounds. They work just as good for coyote and bobcats. Just to let you know, 99% of the animals I kill, I shoot with a shotgun. I haven't killed a predator with a rifle in about 5 years. I only set up where I can see 40 yards or less. I like to be up close and personal. Brian

If you see a fox and he doesn't come in right away, switch to a fox distress sound and you will have him right in your lap. Carry a shotgun with you. Foxes come in fast and are quick. Brian

If you buy it now, it is still valid till dec 31, 2014. It's valid from January 1 till the end if the year. Brian is this in writing somewhere? If I buy now for spring hunts. It actually starts on jan 1? Not the date of purchase, say.. Today, until next year this date?Says it right on my new license, the dates it's valid for. Jan 1- dec 31, 2014. Since the new structure doesn't start till Jan 1, 2014, the license you buy now cannot be valid until Jan. 1, 2014. So it is good starting from jan 1. So my license I buy now to apply for the spring hunts in 2014, I will also be able to apply for the spring hunts for 2015 since it is valid till dec 31, 2014. I will just have to have a new 2015 license when the spring hunts begin in jan , 2015. Hope this makes sense. Brian So they changed the rule about having a license valid for the hunts you are putting in for? I didn't see that in the new regulations. This is why you always had to buy your next years license before putting in for spring hunts. Like stickflicker Said in an earlier post, it will greatly benefit nonresidents. If they time it right they can use one license to put in for elk for two separate years. Instead of them having to purchase a license every year to apply for elk they will only have to do it every other year. Will be quite the loss of revenue from non res for the g and f. Brian

Verizon reception is not good. Even down in portal. Have to find just the right spot. I've hunted a lot down there. I've seen illegals quite a few times. Never had any issues. Had one last year wondering if we would call border patrol to pick him up. He was tired and had enough. He was ready to go back. Camping wise during the rifle hunts usually isn't a problem. There are usually a lot of people camped down there and there are not a lot of good places to camp in some areas so most camp close to each other. During archery hunts when there are very few people down there, we usually stay in the rv park in Rodeo or in the motel in Portal. And yes there is as much traffic that goes over the top of the mountains as there is down low so just be aware and you will be good. There is usually quite a bit of border patrol running around through the mountains too. Have fun and good luck. One of my favorite places to be is down there. Brian

And he is a whopper of a buck!!!! Brian

There are some over the counter, limited opportunity elk tags that you can buy every year. Limited opportunity meaning not many elk that can be hard to find. There are some people that are getting pretty good at these hunts. Just for your information. Brian

Applying for the upcoming javelina draw- any downside being under the old license regime?
standman replied to AndrewJ's topic in Javelina
I purchased my 2014 license the other day and asked to have the 2 pole stamp added on it. She said that she wouldn't sell me a stamp with it because starting Jan 1 it is Included in my license that I just bought. So we will see if that is true. Brian -
It's one antlered deer period. If you kill an antlered deer with a bow you are done for the year. If you kill one with a rifle you are done for the year. It doesn't matter the species. You kill one you are done. I killed an archery deer this past January. I am done till January 2014. Long wait lol. So it's just one and done. Brian

Me too. I sure wish it would fill before they let any out again. But won't happen. Without a drastic influx of water from the winter it will be right back where it was. Out of water again come next summer. But here's to hoping. Brian

Awesome job fellas! That's how to get it done. Congrats. Brian

He's a little early this year I believe. Have a good buck at the same spot and he is still full velvet. Brian

To Biscuit or not to Biscuit? That is the question.
standman replied to Scooter's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Dang, I didn't know i was still a beginner after all these years. Lol. I guess all those dead deer and elk should feel stupid that they die from a beginner. Give it a try. If you don't like it don't use it. GBA is right about the biscuit wearing over time. If you shoot a lot it will wear so it is not fool proof. Nothing is. I shoot one and change mine every year. That is a con that I live with, but the pros, in my mind, out weigh the cons, and that's all that matters. Shoot what gives you the most confidence and run with it. My .02 from a "beginner". Brian
