  1. 1st: wind It isn't always easy to get the wind right, especially in a blind. Ive tried scent lock base layers, sprays, scent wafers, stashin my clothes in the woods before I put em on, special detergents. I'm sure all of it can, and will, help some. Most if the time in my experience, nothing beats good wind. When I'm goin into a blind I try not to sweat too much either, get up early and go slow.
  2. I was near Christpher Creek Friday night, and I saw something I've never seen before, a glow worm. I'm not sure if thats what they are called though. It was tan, about a 3/8 of an inch long, with a green glowing end on it that was about a 16th of an inch. Anybody else ever seen them. It was pretty neat to see. Does anybody know how rare they are?

    AR500 steel

Thanks for the laugh and the salvage yard info Lark. I remember the old silouttes at Usery. I haven't seen em in a few years, but I've been boycotting Usery for atleast a year now. I was planning on hanging the target, I could hear it better and prevent some damage. I figure I could see bullet marks better on a white steel target compared to .284-.338 holes in paper. Seems like guys just spray paint em over after shooting and you can see them clearly again. Its gonna be a pain to lug around and set up, but my target won't blow away. I also want something easy to see and easy for a spotter to see at some longer range stuff.

    AR500 steel

AR500 is supposed to hold up as targets for big bullets. My plan is to have 300 grainers going around 2800fps at the muzzle. I don't want to haul around a hunk of 1/2 plate only to punch a bunch of holes in it.

    AR500 steel

Thanks for the replies guys. I talked to one of my customers at the hardware store today. He is from Temtco steel in AJ. He says they have patterns for silhouette targets and can cut just about anything I'd want in AR500.

    Antelope Scouting Pictures!

That heart shaped buck is awful pretty. I hope you can find him during the hunt. Great pics! I like the ones where he is leaving quartering away left, looks like a good buck. I have gotten a couple cell-scoping pics and movies this year. They may not be the clearest pictures, but you can see everything you need to see in them.

    Draw results?

The last 5 numbers look like AZGFD employee codes. The first number after the social looks like specie code; 6 for sheep, 1 for deer and 4 for turkey, All the ones with the same handwriting on my apps end in 12940. There are two other handwritings on my checks. Each different, each ending in a different set of 5 digit ending numbers. THe name of the applicant is written on about half of my checks. I checked all 6 of my checks.

    Draw results?

First 4 are indeed social. If the 2nd set of numbers, maybe the last set is the lowest draw number? Just wondering but I'm gonna check the regs and see what i can find

    Sad...yet funny!

Just a fair warning, it's not kid friendly. I saw some of the original Eastman's movies on netflix, from the 60s, IIRC. Its on my list, but haven't finished it yet. There are a lot of good documenteries on netflix. Another one of my favorites was "I like killing flys". It is about a resturaunt owner in NY that has a very interesting outlook on things, he seems pretty intelligent too.

    foxpro scorpion X1B

I have a CS-24 with the fox bang. It works pretty good. If you are using the prarie dog all clear for prarie dogs, make sure to turn the fox bang off. The ki-yi I have it set to made all the little heads disappear. I haven't used it too much, but it did call in a bobcat on its first trip into the hills.

I actually watched that on Netflix a couple months ago. Very entertaining. I was laughing pretty good through most of it. I saw it had good ratings, so I watched it. I had never heard of the Whites, and didn't know what to expect.

Music - Songs for the drive

Wow DB, pretty eclectic taste in music. I listen to lots of different types of music. On my hunting playlist there's plenty of Skynrd, Ledoux, Waylon, David Allen Coe. I also have lots of other stuff on it; Atomship, Systematic, Aaron Lewis, with and with out Staind, lots of Kid Rock, Zepplin, A few Stones songs, Delbert Mclinton, Kenny Wayne Sheppard. I have a couple of Dylan cover songs, alot of stuff from Chris Cornell, solo and with any of his previous bands. I like most of the acoustic Everlast stuff. Also have Godsmack, White Stripes, Trivium, Primus, Stonesour, Old Willie, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB king, Clapton, Allman Brothers on my hunting list. I have to have a couple Jerry Jeff songs for my dad, lots of Chilli Peppers, a couple colt ford. I just added redlight king's rendetion of Neil Young's Old Man. A lot of times I listen to 101.1, the classic hip hop station. It comes in almost anywhere in AZ where other stations won't. I don't know if they have a better radio tower or what. I wouldn't be caught dead without my ipod though. I have to have my jams. I listen to and have all types of music. I'm not too big on punk, but have some. I'm sure I've missed a couple artists, but thats a few of them in my hunting playlist.

    Jaguar from az

I wonder how many sightings of dark/black cats could be jagurundi. I've heard from a few people face to face they have seen jags. I do believe one of them.

Eberlestock is top notch in customer service. All they ask for with a broken buckles is a model and an address.

    Glow Worms in az

I know its real old, but didn't want to start another new thread. Well, three years of mescal finally produced a picture. I saw it Monday 7/4 night. Pics are blury I had to play with the shutter speed and ISO, also had to manual focus, I'm learning.

    your go to pack

Ebelestock gunslinger. It has a big main compartment foe elk quarters or other big pieces. It holds my rifle with bipod with no issues. I can haul 2 tripods if I don't have a rifle for a spotter or video. It fits me well andit doesn't hurt my back. It isn't as big as the j series pack, but holds plenty. I also have a badlands 2200 and an external frame pack. I pretty much beer use either.

Wanting to buy a photo converter

My sister talked to somebody at walgreens or CVS. She said she had boxes and boxes of photos and negatives from our parents. They were slow and they did them all over a couple weeks in the summer time. She got a good deal on them. I think it was only $100-200 for a few thousand photos. They put them all on to CDs for her. Might be worth a try.

    DIY Security Box

I ordered mine off Cabelas, they were the cheapest ones they had. I think they were made for feaders. They arent the waterproof ones. I ran a bead of silicone on the seams, and they worked fine. Any 12v panel hooked to the battery will trickle charge it.

    DIY Security Box

SLA batteries work well (most alarm batteries). Especially with a solar panel on them. I've had them set up for for 6 months. I wrap the batteries is reflectix or insulate them. And then ware proof them

    Quiet Handgun

I think those FNH 5-seven pistols are less noisy than the 40s, 45s, and mag revolvers. Not much in the energy department though, but they are fast.

    Fourth of July Plans?

Im off Monday and Tuesday. I was thinking of catching the Payson fireworks show from Diamond Point or the hill south of the air port. I assume it would be crowded, so may wait untill next week to check cameras. That way I can make sure some kid doesn't light my yard on fire here at home.

    where to shoot?

This happens every summer for me, when I'm working up new loads for the upcoming hunting season. I'm in the east valley and I don't want to bother with Ben Avery. The discharging a fire arm in a restricted forest is excluded IF you are hunting within in state regulations. Coyote, skunk and cottontail are open year round. Ive never tried rabbit hunting at 1k though... I would like to know of somewhere I could shoot past 1k in the summer time. Maybe gunsite?
