game retrieval w/ horses any interest?
youngbuck replied to tomgobbler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Usually theres some guys offering the service in payson on the elk hunts they run up there in november early december. I would think you could do pretty good up there if enough people knew you were gonna be up there. I know a few guys do it on foot too. -
It does work good If i used my 10's on a tripod more I'd get one. I use the old websters on mine. Lots better than the Leica brand one. That thing is a joke. I hope they have changed it since. Nope, I just looked. Anybody see the Leica geovix LUX? Its binos that you can use to talk to other binos w/ a headset. Man I thought a rino was hi-tech.

I was 10. I drew a slick headed elk tag. I was so excited for it. I had just got my braces put on nad my dad brought beef jerky to snack on. I remember soaking my dinner rolls in water so I could eat. It was pretty rough, but I did ok. We got into a large herd of elk and I had shots on probably 6 bulls before I did on a cow. The cows would run through my shooting late, and the bulls would stop for me. We finally got set up in a small meadow and I shot the cow in the picture below. She had 2 bulls folowing her. One was an absolute pig 380+ and the other was probably 350. They wouldnt leave even after I shot. My dad to this day thinks that was one of the largest bulls he has ever seen. I will never forget it. Packing the elk out i said " You know, a box of bullets will kill alot of elk" My dad chuckled. Every time I miss he tells me that a box of bullets wont kill near as many elk as I think, no matter what I'm shooting at.

How about a contest next year for the first member of CW.com to post when results are out. False reporting disqualifies you. Maybe win a T-shirt or hat or something. I'll even buy the first shirt for it. 2nd place is the first loser. 1st place only. That way I could think I may actually be productive while I was playing the wating games online and on the phone.

Great pics! Ive never salted for specificly muleys. They also generally ignore the salt in my WT spots. It looks like they actually like the salt. Most of my muley pics are pass throughs.

I need a new frame pack. I'm looking for something with a seperate frame and pack. I would prefer the pack have a large compartment. I'll mostly be using it for packing stuff out, or long weekend trips. I was looking at the Cabelas Alaskan Guide Model frame pack. I dont need anything fancy w/ a scabard or spotter pocket. I use a my gunslinger or 2200 for almost everything. I remember RR making a post about some in the bargain cave a while back. Anyone have any suggestions. Oh another thing i'm not trying to break the bank on this but would like it to last a while.

Wasn't the late year the time they farmed out the draw to some guys in mississippi or somethin, or was that an elk draw?

Killer photos! That golf ball launcher is something else. It sure would be odd to see a caliber that didnt start with a decimal point. Looks about an inch to me.

Ive seen quite a few 180gr .30 accubonds thrown down range, bullet performance is great. They fly good too. I have some loaded up in a RUM w/ IMR4350. (kinda fast powder but it shoots great in my RUM and 7mag) I know a guy who shoots the same bullet w/ Retumbo. I bought a can of it to try out some loads. What bullets are you shooting out of your 300RUM?

Ok, I think im savvy when it comes to finding what i want online. I just bought a winchester 94 trapper in 357. It has a 16" tube on it. Total length is 34.25". Its gonna get a peep reer sight with a fiber optic front. I cannot find an unscoped rifle case short enough. The 36" cases are for AR's mostly and way too tall. I have found youth shotgun cases in 32" length, too short. I have a 40" shotgun case wich is a little long to do what i want. I would like a sling style case like the Boyt. Some one makes a knock off alot cheaper but it is like 48 inches or something. Any suggestions?

My buddy in the east Mesa had one get in his backyard and tear up his dogs pretty good. There was 3 big hounds that got it pretty good. One had to get stitches on his stomach from the coati. Another took a couple nasty scratches in the face. I saw the aftermath with my own eyes. Ive seen some hunting and scouting but never in big groups. I videod my girlfriend trying to shoot one on her coues hunt year. Never saw him long enough to get a shot and the wind was blowin somethin fierce. Got some video though. I should do somethin with that.

I havent looked through the monarchs in 12x but i have a pair of 10s. My buddy has the razor 12x50 and likes them alot. They look like good glass to me. I have always like glassin with a few people who use different magnification. If im with 15x guys we usually glass the same stuff at the same time. If you have a guy usin 12's or 10s in addition to 15's your glassin different stuff. Im a fan of the razor 12's

How, where to go when G&F err on your applications?
youngbuck replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I would call the draw office, probably after the deer draw. I drew my 2nd choice with 1st choice tags still avalaible due to the 20% max BP rule. The lady I talked to said she was "looking" at my application. Dont know how much truth there is to that but thats what i was told. -
Its been mentioned before but a text service would be nice. I dont know how hard they are to use or how easy it is to mess them up. Even an email notification would be nice. The elk and antelope I had about 3 hrs of constant calling on 2 phones to get through the first time. Then another 2 hours for the second time. I got a call at 4 am the next day from a buddy just to tell me him and his dad were drawn. It was worth it though, he drew the early archery and his dad the early rifle the folowing week. I would have had to call some one too.

Camera Reviews
youngbuck replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
good to know. Im using a canon sd30. Its tiny, tiny for my pocket but the <3x zoom isnt enough. IT takes good pictures for 5MP. THe canon sx200 is a bigger camera, but i want one, ill have to get one now that i heard you like it. -
I wonder if AZGFD isnt to blame. If you worked in the front office wouldnt you tell every one you knew that they would be out such and such date. I would. I'd tell everyone that would believe me just to mess with em. Its never a first hand expierence, that would look bad on the dept but if they heard second hand that wouldn't reflect badly on the AZGFD. Maybe Im just a prankster but I bet the people at the AZGFD are reading these posts year after year laughing about how many people they "got" again this year.

Well I give in, its not my pile. Its my girlfriends dads. He is a arizona native and has hunted his whole life and is a coues nut if you cant see from the pic. If you look close there are some dandies. 5 over 110, one over 120. This pile doesnt include 6 more coues in the house, one that is a double main beam. There is also another double main buck at the bottom of the pile. The sheds are just the ones from this season.

Trail transmission in aj has always done me and my family good for tranny stuff. Sold my uncle a 5 dollar sensor when he was ready to write a check for a whole tranny he "knew" it was trashed but they sold him a 5 dollar part instead. Did all the clutch work on my truck, fast and affordable.

i face north when possible for washed out pics i place my cam about 18" off the ground, sometimes over 6ft angling down if the elk are chewin on it i try and get alot of open ground in the background of the pics to help with false triggers and i see more critters Interstate brand C batteries outlast everything else in that size ive ever tried (good thing i order them at the hardware store i work at, they are hard to find) their AA's are comparable to other top brands locks only keep honest people honest flashes waste battery, use them only if you need them. flashes are a huge give away if its close to a road or a slope facing a road. slower triggering cams are best on a trail if placed almost parallel to the trail with multiple pics per trigger make your batteries your limiting factor, not your sd cards. Always have spare cards it helps if your regular camera takes the same cards as your trial cams for a card reader elk seem to chew on new cameras, must be the smell, not sure if its mine or the plasic's clear any weeds that might sway in the breeze. chasingame.com is a great recorce for info and reviews, lots of knowlegable people over there. My preferances for my cams Wildviews: 3/2 pics every minute, flash depends on location and how often i check it Scoutguard or the new coverts i would assume to be similar. 2 pics every 20 seconds.

Just curious, how many tickets for big horn did you buy? -
The thread is 9 months old but ill chime in. I use an eberlestock gunslinger and it works great. I have buddies with the same as me and some who use the dragonfly and the x1a1. All are good packs. Depends on what you want to do. Ive never wished my gunslinger was bigger. I use a frame pack for giant loads. The x1a1 seems perfect for an archery pack or rifle pack if you dont haul as much crap as I do. I usually have 2 tripods 15's and video equipment along with calls lights sharpeners and knife and gps.
