    Which sight?

i use a 7dp. Ive heard the g5 is heavy. never used one though. some people dont like 7 pins either. If you do go 7dp get the small fibers in it. When i bought mine i think they offered 2 size fibers. 70yd is a long ways and the finer the fiber the easier for me

A Worthless Waste of Hunting Gear

The monkey but powder works. I caught alot of crap for it on a dune trip. The 2nd day everybody wanted some. we were all on 2 wheelers.I love oragne accesories too, never lost my orange knive yet or lime green spoon. I also live by the windicators or powder puffers archery hunting Things ive wasted money on: The leica tripod adapter for the geovids is junk Swaro doubler never was better then 15 power cheap backpacks that wear out fast Never seen the turds i might order some just for laughs the buttout is a classic I always laugh at those deer carts too, but i suppose they are ok for back east in a field or somethin. I just laugh everytime i think about me draggin one of them in coues country

    another miss hunter

If your going to reload I would not suggest the WSSM. They are not all that bad but really trick at first. You gotta bump the shoulder back or you cant hardly lift the bolt handle or close it. Not sure what factory offerings are now. Seems like they dropped abunch at least in 223wssm. I think a 243 or 2506 would be at the top of my list. I started w/ a 243. It did a number on pigs WT and MD, even an elk when i was 10. I also had the option of shooting my dads 2506 when i was 10. It was too much recoil for me though.

    300 ultra mag ammo

Midway sells nosler custom ammo w/ 180gr accubonds. thats what i would buy if i couldnt buy my own. In fact i suggested this to a guy who had an early rifle bull tag. The bull he shot didnt take one step afterwords. bullet works good on whiteys too. saw it in action @ 722 and 173 so far this year. i dont think the midway stuff is very spendy either. fast shipping too

Havalon Knives - Check these out!

i have an orange one now. Its easy to find when you set it down. been usin em for a few years. great knives. If your snappin blades youll get used to em and that will go away. I did 2 bears with one blade. An elk with 2 blades. 2 coues, a blade each with mine so far this year. Glad too see you have them Amanda

    300 rum ammo for Coues?

180gr accubond. this year, so far mine has a 722yd kill and a 173 yd kill on WT. Ive seen quite a few go down from this pill. No cape damage and devestating stuff inside. I think for boxed ammo you have to order Nosler Custom ammo to get this anymore. I thought federal loaded it but i couldnt find any for my buddys dad, he bought the nosler.

    leica geovid

Ive had a pair of the geovids for a while. I love the glass but there are some cons. The laser doesnt hold up as good as the LRFs or the CRFs at least from what i have seen. I havent had to send mine back yet but should have a long time ago. The laser doesnt always read back. When they were new, it always did. I even had it read 1600 yards once. It was a semi truck on the highway. The edges are not near as clear of a picture as the swaros. for tripod glassing I can really notice this. I like to use the entire FOV when glassing and it is more dificult with the geovids. Maybe my pair is just starting to loose it, because i dont remember noticing this when they were new. What do the guys think who do use em.

    Hearing Protection

The easiest thing i have found is the banded ear plugs. They are the foam earplugs held together with a plastic band. I wear em around my neck all day and they are there when i need em.

    .270 wsm or 7mm wsm???

Some good advise on rifles I heard was that a fancy caliber doesnt make you shoot any better. (i didnt listen at the time) Best thing i think to do with a gun is shoot it. Get used to it. Another thing people get all worked up about is people using big calibers on smaller game. While the "use a bigger caliber if you wanna shoot that big of a bullet" is true. I have never seen anything that was too dead. I have seen animals that were torn up by the choice of bullet. That being said there are some great performing calibers, and cartridges to do what ever you want (hot rod, obscure, slow, low recoil, popular, cool, fast). Im a fan of the 270 WSM, never had one but good #'s on paper. Ive seen it do good things in the woods too. I shoot my 300RUM for just about everything. I shoot it enough to know it well. I saw it tip over a whitetail @ 722 yards 2 weeks ago. Minimal shocked meat, and it was dead. Perfect shot through the boiler room. If I shot the rifle alot more I prolly woulda went with less of a barrel burner. But ive always kinda liked hot rods. I got one of those 223WSSMs Lark was hatin on (rightfully so they really dont feed worth a dang). But i shot it enough and played around on the press and got a load that shoots fast (4100) and feeds good enough for me. I bet the gun mfg's love the guys who want the biggest, baddest, fastest, lighest, killingest cartridges (im one of em). Im sure when they sell all the RUMs the can the will come out with a REM (rem enormous mag) and alot of ppl will have to get that. Or they might tell us bigger is bad and we will have to but the newest quarter bore out there. When i started puttin together my gun, i was hopin to keep it how i put it together and not have to change much on it. That all costs extra money. I wanted something that would do its job well for more than a few years. I love buyin new gun stuff but cant afford to do it. Man i must be bored, Ive never written that much

    I need some fancy wood

I just got my mount back from Clay @ Mogollon. This was the buck that I won the CWT.com custom knife from for the picture catagory. The knife is way to purdy to get bloody. I'd like to display it next to my mount though. I want a small hunk of burl. Im not to picky about what kind of wood as long as it has some character and will look nice. I would like a chunk about the size of 8" short sided right triangle and about 4" thick. If it was about this size id prefer the top and bottom be rough uncut and naturally "burly" I think i could make something work from any shape about the size though. If there are any wood workers on here that might have a small hunk they would sell or maybe tell me where i could find some i would appreciate it. In the mean time Im gonna keep an eye out in the woods. Any suggestions on what to look for? Ryan
  15. I have an older panasonic HDD w/ a 32x zoom. It works pretty well. I have a few videos on you tube. search for Rdeadmo. The bear was a little over 300 yards, the WT was around 850, and I didnt have the max clarity setting selected. The carp was around 150-200 yards. A tripod is a must for anything over 50 yards if you want good video. I have a ton of killer video from this years elk hunts but wont get em up for a while. looks like the new ones are 60g w/ a 70x zoom.

    I need some fancy wood

Thanks for the help guys, I called the wood workers place. They didnt know where i would be able to find something like I want. I called a few other places across the US and they were no help either. Ill prolly find what i want sooner if i just look for what i want out in the hills. I would prefer something with as little cut surface as possible so i can "slice" off a piece of it to finish. That way it will look like a gnarly hunk off wood w/ really nice finished face on it.

    Naked Without It

Id say a part of your sleeping rig, pillow, pad, sheet what ever you need. I have a giant duffel bag that has my cot pad sleeping bag pillow and a flannel liner for the bag or to sleep in when its hot. That way I never forget anything. The havalon knife is important and so is the rino gps. The only way ive found to consistently not forget something is to always keep it in my hunting pack all the time. I end up hauling stuff i dont need, but when i do need it i have it.

    Sitka Flash 32 day pack

I have a gunslinger and absolutely love it. I have never wished it to be bigger either. Ive packed out at least 5 WT, 1 bear, and 2 elk in the last 2 years. The thing looks brand new, besides stains. Nothin has ripped torn or anything. Well i guess the waist buck broke so i called and got a free one sent to me. The scabard is quite a bit wider in the gunslinger than the other eberlestock packs. This is fine for me cuz i have a bipod. In archery season I always haul at least one tripod sometimes 2 and a spare grunt tube. The X1A1 has surprised me with how much you can carry. I'd still opt for the gunslinger tho. The top opens up very big to slip in quarters or capes or anything else that you would normally have to "stuff" in to make it fit. I would definately look at both the X1 and the gunslinger. The X1a1 did have a few more smaller pockets in it to organize The gunslinger has a pretty big pocket i keep all my junk (radio/gps, calls, ear plugs, rope, lighter, tape, twine, batteries, flashlights, ect) in. Kinda makes things hard to find. My gps i can usaully find easy and i keep my calls in the smallest pouch so i can finde em quick. Ive had a windicator break in a pack and ruin a camera so i am always lookin for a spot in a pack to put one. I cant find any faults besides the small pouch on the side. I strap my tripod to the side if i have a big load or I dont wanna keep getting it outa the bag. I suppose it could be a deeper pocket but my tripod has never fallen out. I guess there isnt anything wrong with it. If you wanna look at my gunslinger sometime shoot me a PM, Im in NE mesa. I work early and go to school nights, but sometimes i get break in the action. My buddy who lives next door has an X1A1 you could prolly look at too.

    HCO NightTrakker Trial Camera

I dont think Amanda buys from HCO anymore. I believe she buys from DLC. I was trying to buy some from HCO but that wont return my calls or emails. It seems pretty difficult to become a dealer. O well, look cool though. I bet chansingame.com will have reviews our first.

    Please Welcome Two New Sponsors!

If McMillan needs a stock test on CWT.com I'll do it. Ive always wanted to get one of their stocks (and one day, one of their rifles if I'm lucky)

    Dilemma

These general hunts sure make it tough sometimes. If it was me, Id hunt it, leave at 2 or 3, but leave him a note that he can find. Tell him your hunting this spot, the same as you have in the past and are just meat hunting and you wouldnt mind if he was there too. That way he will know early enough to go to another spot if he wants to or he can meet up with you.
