    Long range rigs

Ive looked into a lot of 338 variations, allen express, edge, and my 338 winmag. From the numbers i was crunching, my 300 RUM runs outa steam pretty quick (8-900), Im comfortable shooting that to about 800 under perfect conditions. Ive chosen on the edge built by shawn after talking with him and 308. The Allen express or snipetacs are neat and Im sure can shoot but I think everything they can do, an edge could do. Im all for hot rod calibers and those are about as hot rod as you can get. The thing that sold me on the edge was the reloading for it. Shawn has loads with EXTREMELY low velocity spreads. those low spread help a lot down range 1k+ on calculating drop. The 338 I would like to build would be a truck/or quad gun. It would be heavy maybe 14lb but my lightweight RUM could still go anywhere and shoot a long ways. I know of guys with 20lb+ lapua guns. I like the bullet choice in 30 cal but 338 are somewhat limited. Im a huge fan of accubond repeatability in how they fly and what they do at 5-800 yeard on coues. Ive been slowly saving for an edge build, same way I did for my RUM. This might take me a little longer. Good thing is in this day in age its not all hear say. People can prove what they can do with their rifle. There are alot of proof for shawn and kirbys ultra long range rifle, and plenty of reading material to keep me busy in the mean time.
  3. I was shy of 25-06 and a .270 around 10. I think I was 12 before I started to want shoot either. I shot em befor but didnt like em. I used a 243 alot, and it doesnt have a recoil pad. Id say .243 and a simms VL or the remignton (same thing) pad and youl be fine. I shot coues muleys and elk with the 243

    Illegal Immigration Refrom

Two statements taken out of your post that dont really make sence when looked at together. How can they be busting their butts here and paying for food back home while making revenue for the state? They dont pay taxes, right? No state income there. If they dont spent nearly all their paycheck here and send just a little bit back to mexico the state is loosing money, its going out of the country. Not all illegals are paid under the table cash, usually just the ones off the corners. I pay my workers a check from my payroll company and they take all taxes, SS, Medicare, workmens comp etc. Allot of the time they use fake SS numbers but the state is still getting there money. They work hard, and send allot of their profits back home to feed there family. Your right some money is being sent to mexico and probably allot but my point is, who wants to do this job. Still no takers. I will add to my job post. Need 30 Landscapers must be legal US citizens and must be willing to work in 120 plus degree tempatures 8 - 10 hours a day 5 days a week. $500.00 Hiring Bonus If you work for me and get drawn for a hunt you get to take off the whole hunt PAID. Still have 30 openings. You can start tomorrow. The reason you arent getting any takers isn't because we can't hack it or we are lazy. The majority of us have made sacrifices earlier in our lives so we could better our education and/or skillset. I bet a lot of people on here have at one time "hacked it" in manual labor jobs outside in the summer, i have and do. I've played the game. I got an education, still take classes, work 40hrs a week and work whatever kind of side work I can get on the weekends.

    Got my Boat

You'll do fine with a trolling motor only, we used to take the bass boats up for smallies and use trolling motors and they did fine

    The Worst

Definately unpacking for me. Most of the other stuff adds more challenges and makes for a better story down the road. For the record I dislike shin daggers, cat claw, new gear that breaks the first time out, ruined tires, broken down rigs, seeing trash littered around, relying on a highlift jack, and wind.

    ocelot found near Globe

Neat lookin critter. I was just talkin about ocelots in the Pinals this weekend and bam, one gets lit up on the highway. It would be nice to know the real story;a loose pet, an attempt by "conservation org" like DB suggested that went terribly wrong. I wonder how that would play out. Group lets loose a endangered animal in hopes of people believing it lived their, and it dies. I sure hope this doesnt turn into another Macho B. Ive always wanted to see an ocelot in the wild, and ive always kept my fingers crossed for a jaguarundi in the glasses too.
  13. Well flat out I wanna take pictures like RR. I dont have an SLR camera, but a very nice point and shoot is on its way to replace my old one. I think im handy with my camera but know theres lots to learn. I know im never gonna be able to take great photos consistantly without more knowledge. RR's pics are incredible and i know id need alot of equipment, experience, knowledge ,and skills I do not pocess to get the shots he gets. I'd like to get the best out of what i have though. examples; Id like to capture the intensity of a rising mood during sunset without the intesity being lost in photo. I wanna understand the F#'s better for the in/out focus background. I dont wanna sit through a class where they explain where the power button is and how a tripod works but would be way over my head if they used alot of technichal terms. Anybody have any suggestions on books or classes. I will probably never have photography as a hobby but want to be a profecient picture taker. 99% of pics I take are outside of animals or landscapes. Im, open to any and all suggestions. I figure the summer is the best time to brush up on my skills. Ive read through lots of stickied tips her and elsewhere and understand the rule of 1/3s and use it. I would simply love to be able to capture the intensity of colors in our landscapes and know how to do so. Im sure a lot of people are in the same boat as me.

    Trail Cams

*Is high resolution necessary? Biggest reason for better resolution is if you want to share em with your buddies or have them to look at later, a 2mp cam is more than enough to see how big something is, that being said i like my 4 and 5mp pictures a lot more but it doesnt make my deer any bigger *Is infared necessary? 2 reasons for IR; battery life and security. IR lasts a lot longer than regular flash. A group of bedding/feeding elk will wipe your batteries in one night (happened with my IR too but not as often) people see those white flashes if they are close to a road or on an open hillside. I use IR when i can, but still use some normal flash cameras too *Best way to secure to tree? Best way Ive found is a master python, the 3/8 one not the 5/16. I also have a steel lock box that i use with my good camera. The best way besides that is pay attention to where you have it. Think of how you came about the spot you want to look at, are other people likely to find it also.

    Arizona Big 10?

I guess I have something to set my sights on. Ive always heard of the big 10 and knew what it included. I never know the list of members was so sparce. I also agree it would be difficult to include both species of sheep and turkey. Im sure the gould tags are in extremely high demand with an extremely limited number of tags, as are both sheep. Maybe Ill get my tags one of these years and have a chance at filling the bill. Thanks for the info Bill and Tony.

    EyeShield for your Binoculars

I made a pair of these a while back out of 1/16 rubber gasket material. They worked ok but didnt last and had no good way of adjusting for different sizes, i might have to give a pair a try, the swaro winged cups are ok but could be so much better

    Need advice for GPS purchase

+1 on the electronic compas, its a big plus for me. If any of your buddies have the rino, buck up and buy one. They are nothing special with out a few of them. When your whole group has them they are indespensible. Pick ups drop off, tryng to catch up, or help packing out are a very few of the upsides. I have a really old (8years) etrex and 3 rinos. both will get me back home or find my salt or spring or camera. I would hate to loose the rinos though when im hunting with a few people. oh if you get the electronic compas learn how to reset it. They need to be calibrated every once in a while. For me i hit a button and do 2 circles. When they are off calibration they are dumber than a sack of rocks. I thought my rino was the stupidest machine ever built untill I learned you have to calibrate them every once in a while. let us know what you get and how you like it

    Tires?

Well i haven't been around lately cuz ive been on another forum I was rear ended sittin at a red light and it totaled my truck. So i bought a new truck. Anyways Ive been researchin suspension stuff and tires. I had good luck w/ discounts pathfinders AT on my light weight truck. for my new truck id like somethin a little better. BFG ATs are always decent here in AZ but want to step up to a bit more aggrsive but not a KM2. I found the goodyear duratracs. They look really good but am wondering how they hold up in the rocks. I dont wanna spend 800-1000$ on tires that i will destroy in 15k mi. If any body has used em let me know what you think. ive read a ton of good reviews but no one here in AZ, so fear they sound good to me.
