I like Backstraps Butcher too -
My dad was set on shooting a javelina with his 16" .357 model 94. He put on a fiber optic bead and peep sight. Its a pretty neat rig. In all honesty I have a Smith 8" 357 w/ a red dot that shoots better, even at ranges up to 200yards. He wanted to use his trapper. It made for a really fun hunt, and he ended up tagging out. It was a 94 yard shot, and he had to do it shooting prone. Blades, beads and fibers take up a large area that for away. I think a trapper with red dot scope on it would be a great, small, haul everywhre type gun or a really good home defense weapon. I cant bring myself to put a red dot on a lever action though.

Make it something easy to remember and easy to say. Best advertising for meat cutters is word of mouth. "Hey Such and Such did my deer this year, it was great and cheap too" Somemthing with a area specific name would be good like the suggested mogollon or beeline. Maybe something along the line of Rim Country Meats. Just so the customer that is very satisfied with the service and product tells his buddies, "Dang I forgot their name, but they did a great job" -
Most rifle hunts I wear tan pants, or brush busters. I like predator patterns but the pants don't hold up. I also like ASAT. Cactuflage is one i really like too. I usually end up buying wrangler stuff at VF factory outlet. Its cheap and it holds up. Glassing in rocks, cat claw, and manzanita are hard on clothes.

I haul a 223 a lot when I go to the lake. Not every time but maybe half. I hope to see a lion or bobcat, taking a centerfire rifle usually prevents me from seeing them i think. I don't remember who's numbers these were but they were fines for taking wildlife; 6k for elk and sheep and around 3.5k for deer lions and bears. How can the fine rate be 6k when sheep tags can sell for 50k. Isn't "stealing" anything valued over $1,000 (i dont know the number exactly) a felony. Isn't that what a poacher is doing, taking something that is not theirs valued over $1000. Seems like if the commision made poaching stealing wildlife in the wording, felonies would go along with other tickets. A felony is a pretty big deterent for most half reasonable people. I know there will always people who don't care but a felony is a big deal.

I like the small shed! Ive always hoped to find one small enough for a key chain.

308 have you had a chance to shoot any of Bergers 300gr .338's? I should get back over to LRH and read up on em I suppose.

Thats where ultra high BC's come into play. The biggest hot rod mags around can't carry energy at long distance with out bullets that "slip" through the air. I haven't ran the numbers in a while but BC's have a HUGE effect on kinetic energy levels the farther you are shooting. If I remember right (i may be mistaken, i dont have charts or balstic software at work) my 300RUM (loaded faitly hot) shooting 180gr Accubonds (a pretty high BC and fairly heavy for .30cal) is running into minimum bullet expansion velocities short of 900yd.

Looks good. It looks like you opted for the spray on velvet. How does it look in person? I'm hoping decide to try and keep original or go spray on before I arrow a wallhanger.

My dad found a 180gr accubond in the dirt after a complete pass through on a coues, thats the only accubond Ive ever recovered. It looked just like the comercials say it should. I have my 243 100gr core-lokt from my cow thats 14 years old. It does look like the deadliest mushroom in the woods. Ill see if I cant find it.

Protecting a Video Cam

This may be overkill bbut I saw them do it on Deadliest Catch. They had pelican cases that they drilled holes in for the lense and siliconed a piece of acrylic or poly to see out of. For the controlls then siliconed heavy duty waterproof gloves pointing into the case so they could control the camera. -

Thanks for the heads up Amanda, just bought some tickets. -
When I was younger I prefered to have a hunting buddy, my dad, family or friends. Now we all try to put in seperate. That way we all get to go hunting every year. We usually get to go on an early archery bull hunt and a Dec WT hunt. There are plenty of Oct or Nov tags to fill the time between. Occasionaly we will have issues with people drawing different units at the same time, but we try to avoid that on our apps. I get a lot of joy out of glassing and packing animals wether they are mine or a friend's. If you want an Oct WT hunt, it shouldn't hurt you, but its all chance.

K well Ive been thinking more and more about the claw. Right now I have 2 700rc2 heads, and alot of my buddies use them too. Every optic/camera/camcorder I have has a plate that will fit that. If I buy a larger head to accomodate the claw I would like to keep the same plate style. This points me to the 701rc2. Anybody tried this head with the claw. I always prefer to shoot prone off my harris for long stuff, but I would be getting the claw just as much for me, as my buddies who don't like to shoot prone.

I havent gotten any new goodies for my bow in the last few years. I do shoot a 7dp. I like it alot. Thin wall ring around it, small level and fine pins. Its hard enough w/ 7 pins in there all the shaving off the stuff helps

Scents, Licks & Minerals
youngbuck replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Ive tried alot of different things. The two things that matter the most are location and effort. Find a good spot where the deer will find it fairly easily. Make sure the deer are there the time of the year you want them to be. Dont let it dry up, make sure they always have what they what, where they want it. -
Boycott "Los Suns"

I watched the game too, I dont know the last time I havent watched a play off game. I do miss a few games during the season but catch most I miss on Tivo later. It will take more than some misguided PR/political stunts to keep me from watching. It still makes me mad that some of the team and Sarver needed to make a stand against some legislature that this state needs. If they want to make a judgement then they should see both sides. I say the NBA Cares does a bit to clean up the border on the US side. Those big guys could haul a lot of trash. -
That was one of the best Jib Jabs yet! Doug's grin is almost spooky real when hes dancing. Im surprised Lark hasn't showed up in one fo these yet.

Hoover, Truman, Eisenhower
youngbuck replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Truman was the only Dem in the bunch. Obama will never ship em out. If you want them out you'll need to vote for another change. I didnt know too much about it either. Anybody know if any of these guys worked for stricter border controll. I know it was a much different time then, but I've never looked into past border controll efforts. -

Boycott "Los Suns"
youngbuck replied to mr.smith's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Ive been a diehard Suns fan ever since I was old enough to understand the concept of the the game. It would be so much better financially and PR wise for the Suns to take a neutral stand whether they like 1070 or not. People are going to buy Suns merchandise and watch the games because they are good and fun to watch. All they are going to do now is leave a bad taste in the mouths of lifelong fans like me. I still wont miss very many suns games but it still irks me. -
Discount usually will match prices. Say tire rack is 100 per tire and shipping is 15, Discount will match 115. If you find somewhere locally they will match the price w/o the shipping. I usually look at 4wheelparts and have discount match their prices.

A 10lb .338 is pretty light. I'm guessing you arent using some 50mm objective and 30mm tube then. That looks like the ultimate carry anywhere do anything type rifle. The reasons for me building a longer range rifle than what I use now is to minimize variables and maximize predictibility. A 338 bucks the wind very well and the edge is very drop predictable. Now if I could only win the lottery and draw more often I'd be set. For the record I like archery hunting as much as I like rifle hunting. Being in the hills is always than workin.
