I would buy 2 wildview 2.0mp. I think they go on sale for that much. They take good pics, betteries last a good bit, they are only 50$ each, they're really to use, and hard to mess up. THey make a 5mp and used to make a 4mp for around 100$. I like having lots of inexpensive cameras and a few nicer ones. The cheapos let me try out new spots, and my honey holes get the good cams.

youngbuck replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer

Want to get binoculars for viewing scenery?
youngbuck replied to sigonie's topic in Optics and tripods
The best bang for the buck stuff, i think, consists of Nikon Monarchs, most vortex stuff, and RR likes the Zen-Rays. Ill be buying the Zen-Rays in 10's for a backup/extra pair/loaner 10s. -
Everyones's advice is good so far. There are a lot of tags but a lot of elk too. The better prepared you are for nasty weather the more glassin you will be able to get in when everyone else is warmin up and dryin out. Good luck!

I had a similar situation with a 1" swaro. I had 3 sets of leupold bases that didnt have enough elevation in them. My scope was maxed out and still shooting 8" low. I switched to talley bases/rings and was 4 clicks from dead center to bore sighted. Im sure if you start over it will be the same for you. Its always hard to watch the tack drivers take a hit.

This is the best this debate has gone yet on CW. I say we end it now while we are ahead.

I generally don't apply for the "higher risk" units as 1st or 2nd choice. There are some southern units I feel "safer" than others though. I go on atleast one hunt a year in what I think are there worse units. I would not hesitate to pick up a left over tag or help a friend on any hunt in AZ. When hunting in "higher risk" areas I take precautions. I dont haul optics/weapons I won't have on me at all times. I camp where I feel less foot traffic will be during the nights and days. I dont leave much in camp. I go with more people than usual, I ALWAYS make sure to have my radio batteries and cell phone.

Why do people shy away from Zeiss 15x60's?
youngbuck replied to GSPMan's topic in Optics and tripods
I know a few that prefer zeiss over Swaro. People with glasses seem to. The eye cups work better while wearing glasses. They also make better mounting systems that the Websters. They seem front heavy on a tripod for me. Ive been able to spend a lot of time behind them. The color contrast is better than any other glass I've looked through. Say a deer is standing in front of a prickly pear a long ways off. Ill notice the difference in colors first in the zeiss. They are good glass, and plenty of people have found lots of critters with em. -
Dec hunt can be iffy with the weather. The last 2 years we have really done well in Dec. 104, 113, 109, and three over 90. It is a ton of fun to hunt in Dec (normaly one or twqo tage for a handfull of glassers). You can hold out for a big deer because there will be more days. I don't have classes. There are fewer people out and about. It is an all around better hunt. Ive also had a lot of succes in Oct hunts. Scouting really pays off for early hunts, more so than the rut, I think. Most hunters wont go too deep because the heat. Get up on a knob when its dark and cool and stay there all day. It pays off. Bucks in Oct are bachelored up, this is helpfull in some ways. They hold up and lay in the shade alot more than Dec bucks. I had never really went on Dec hunts untill about 5 years ago. The first hunt I went on was terrible. Very, very few bucks. I was green at the Dec thing, but I eventually learned how to hunt it. Now I prefer Dec tags but wont hesitate to go or help on an Oct hunt.

+1, by far most important thing. Make sure there are deer in the area when you want them there (early archery season) and that they can find it. For example near, not on a game trail. The only time i use blocks is if there are elk there or i cant resalt an area often (they last longer than other stuff). Elk demolish salt like theres no tomorw. I gave up on a spot that took 2-3 50lb blocks a month. Coues will also eat dirt before they lick block most of the time. Try different stuff, ive tred lots of new stuff, most worked the same as anything else.

I Need This 4X4 Truck Gone by Saturday, Big Price DROP
youngbuck replied to buckfever10's topic in Classified Ads
If there is anyone who wants a great 4wd this would be it. I have a 98 single cab. 98 and 01 were only body changes. It will go anywhere. Hands down best 4wd w/ out a locker, lots better than most LSD ive rode in. I liked it so much I bought an 09. Ive pulled out plenty of full sized, stuck, gas and deisels with my little rice burner. Free bump for good truck and great deal -
Stealing anything very valuable should be a felony, and is when you have a gun with you. A felony would make a good deterent and harsher fines around 10-12k i think would be in line. Jail seems a little harsh for me though, but sometimes you just shouldn't be a dumb arse.

Bear in mind different strokes for different folks. I highly recomend you spend some time with a pistol grip head. I can't use one very well. My glasses tip over alot. I can't find anything in the spotter and on 60x its hard to move it "a little bit" I also get really annoyed by the "click" they make every time you squeeze the lever. I do know some are made better than others. Ive only used the bogen ones, not the outdoorsmans, so my experience you might wanna throw out the window. They usually make great stuff, id really like on of their pan heads.

Great article but they didnt tell me where to buy one. -
Bogen's largest carbon 3 piece will be plenty tall to stand up for you. My buddy is 6 3" and it will go way too high for him. If one is almost tall enough, you'll have to scoot the feet together and that make it unstable. I'd just do some research and find a model that will meet your needs, ask questions abou that specific model. With the guys on here we've tried out a LOT of heads and legs. Might want to concider a smaller sittinf set of legs in addition, that giant 3 piece works great but is dang long collapsed.

Im with BillQ and Slim, If I spent money on one I would lose it, I can always ditch it when I need to.

New rifle build...thoughts / opinions
youngbuck replied to azelkhunter2's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Only think I would change is the lam to syn because I can beat the tar outa my hunting rifles at times,(my stock hangs outa my scabard). I would never be able to use a 42x scope, 20x is plenty for most stuff for me even stuff the edga can tackle. Id go 5.5-22, but thats me. -
Thats a pretty good run he's has with the Dec buck of his. Congrats!

I like Backstraps Butcher too -
My dad was set on shooting a javelina with his 16" .357 model 94. He put on a fiber optic bead and peep sight. Its a pretty neat rig. In all honesty I have a Smith 8" 357 w/ a red dot that shoots better, even at ranges up to 200yards. He wanted to use his trapper. It made for a really fun hunt, and he ended up tagging out. It was a 94 yard shot, and he had to do it shooting prone. Blades, beads and fibers take up a large area that for away. I think a trapper with red dot scope on it would be a great, small, haul everywhre type gun or a really good home defense weapon. I cant bring myself to put a red dot on a lever action though.

Make it something easy to remember and easy to say. Best advertising for meat cutters is word of mouth. "Hey Such and Such did my deer this year, it was great and cheap too" Somemthing with a area specific name would be good like the suggested mogollon or beeline. Maybe something along the line of Rim Country Meats. Just so the customer that is very satisfied with the service and product tells his buddies, "Dang I forgot their name, but they did a great job" -
Most rifle hunts I wear tan pants, or brush busters. I like predator patterns but the pants don't hold up. I also like ASAT. Cactuflage is one i really like too. I usually end up buying wrangler stuff at VF factory outlet. Its cheap and it holds up. Glassing in rocks, cat claw, and manzanita are hard on clothes.

I haul a 223 a lot when I go to the lake. Not every time but maybe half. I hope to see a lion or bobcat, taking a centerfire rifle usually prevents me from seeing them i think. I don't remember who's numbers these were but they were fines for taking wildlife; 6k for elk and sheep and around 3.5k for deer lions and bears. How can the fine rate be 6k when sheep tags can sell for 50k. Isn't "stealing" anything valued over $1,000 (i dont know the number exactly) a felony. Isn't that what a poacher is doing, taking something that is not theirs valued over $1000. Seems like if the commision made poaching stealing wildlife in the wording, felonies would go along with other tickets. A felony is a pretty big deterent for most half reasonable people. I know there will always people who don't care but a felony is a big deal.
