I usually mess with trail cams and bear scoutin untill a bit before archery deer season. I generaly go pickin blackberries a bit before archery and after the opening weekend. They have always beeen perfect. Im just chapped about my apples. The place I go hasn't had any in a few years.

Nice finds Bill! That front matched set has some awesome fronts.

Ive seen it, but more with elk than deer. I have trail pics of elk but not deer. Ive seen many momma elk keep their young'ins in check with a front hoof. Usually it is short lived. Ive never seen a fight last more than 20-30 seconds.

The first buck is amazing in profile, I would love to streach a tape on him. Killer g-3's! Im gonna say the first buck is pretty close to 107, hes a little narrow(for around 110) and short brows, but a neat buck for sure. Some one once used the term "no brainer" yeah thats him. Buck no 2, kinda depends on the time of photo, He is still in velvet and looks to be done growning to me, or real close. Ill say 109 on him, but i think im shorting him. Hes got long mains, good brows, no short tines, mass is fine, good spread. Send me a pm. I'll keep my mouth shut I just wanna know already!

Well if something is gonna be in the works I suggest a shirt just like the new hat; chocolate brown with Bill Q's coues logo in white, or maybe tan. Somethin kinda like the real simple Duck Unlimited T.

I wanna know too, Ive seen some interesting stuff about doing it "the old way" -
The VX3AO (adjustable objective) has it on the lense i believe. the mark4 is a side parlax adjustment. 12x and below scope arent too bad and most dont have an adjustable objective lense. THe 14s is about where they start. I have a 4.5-14 w/out any paralax adjustment and it is fine. I need it on my 18 and higher scopes. If you are going to shoot a log ways w/ 14x, Id look for one w/ some sort of paralax adjustment. Kenton is a good company who make a good product. Call them, they are extremely helpfull and imformative. The MOA system is different that "ranging and shooting" but is very usefull. VERY usefull for wind drift or if you shoot a lot of different loads from one gun. Down side to the MOA calculations, you need to calculate them, well your phone or something will. Last I was looking @ kenton, turrents were around 80$ i think. Still 100$ isnt bad if you have to change loads. BTW everyone that I know who has been using the kenton turrents has had great sucess with them.

Thanks David, So far the Zen Rays look pretty good. One of these days Ill get some time to set them up against some Zeiss Classics 10x40, Nikon monarchs10x42, Leica Geovids 10x42 and some Vortex razor 10x50s. I may be able to get my hand on some swaro ELs in a 10x42 and 10x50 and maybe a pair of the Cabela Euros if I time it right with some buddies. I can have a 10x shootout

There has to be more than what they say. Ive seen one in 27, without a collar a few years ago. I also saw the biggest, darkest coyote varmint callin in heavy snow near young. I still think it was a wolf but thats an awfully long ways from where "they are". There was a couple 3 feet of snow and a ways from any houses, near the air strip. I see where man has taken the place of the wolf as far as regulating numbers of "prey animals"; elk deer ect. We can be more precise in what, when, where, and how many we are taking. I do see a reason for wolves to exhist, just not here and now. In the middle of Alaska where man doesnt play a large role in regulating animal desities, sure.

The big ones find a way to come in when you aren't there. Stay all day long if you can. -
Ive got a buddy who is a GIS major and he can do some pretty neat things with maps like CP said

Rem700 chambered in 300RUM shooting 180AB VanHorn Break, Timney trigger, 6-18x50 swaro TDS Talley one piece rings, Haris bipod and some stock work

My dad has an old reed bugle that sounds like a sissy bull, it can work real well. The blue tipped primos bugles work well if you dont like diaphrams. The sonic dome diaphrams are easier to make sound pretty good, all the time. I haul a bunch of reeds and a grunt tube. Try stuff out the week before to see what works, most guys over call and run their bull off.

Ive heard stories... Where is his house? The Valley, Tucson, hopefully not far far away? -
Lookin for a 870 stock and forend for 12g. Wood, synthetic, beat up, ugly it doesnt matter. I want to try a camo job on a junker too see how it will hold up to being beat up.

Best rangefinder for the money at a true 550-600 yards
youngbuck replied to vegasjeep's topic in Optics and tripods
I prefer leicas, LRF or the CRF both work great. The swaro "reticle" is too big for me. I have an older nikon 600 I use for archery stuff if I dont have the geovids that works. I would imagine they have gotten some good stuff since I bought mine 5 years ago. See if you can find a used LRF1200. Maybe ask doug @ CameralandNY for older or show models. -
It all depends on exactly what you want to do and what kind of budget you have to work with. I dont have very deep pockets but I got the best bang for my buck. Rem 700 in 300RUM, muzle break by Vanhorn and I installed the Timney trigger. I put a 6-18 1" swaro w/ the TDS reticle on top with Talley one piece rings. I threw on a harris bipod and thats it. I spent time and got a load that shot dead nuts. Ive got less then 2k in the total rifle. My Dad used it to take a 90" @ 728 yards this past year. It aslo shot 3 coues and one desert bighorn this year. If I could do it all over again: I think the .30 cal are indepepensible here in Az, They shoot great in the wind and long ranges. It is a great caliber and I have to have one. I would go for .30 instead of 7mm, just IMHO. My RUM is a barrel burner and I dont shoot hundreds of rounds a year, so it works for me. With that said, if I were to go all out on a new rifle, having my 300 now, it would be a 338 edge. It is heavy to pack around but be ideal for the worst shot conditions. That round is SO predictable in how it flies. Swaro makes great glass! However I would like turrets on a new gun. I would also become very familiar with the mil dot /MOA sytem (more precise). The most Ive learned in my long range experience is I try to minimize error. For example choose high BC bullets, shoot velocity consistant loads (temp altitude humidity). Shoot prone whenever possible. Have a good spotter that can tell you exactly whats going on, it sounds kinda hokey but it helps so much. A good trigger is a must have. I would have the nightforce if I could afford it. I dont like Huskemaw, but probably for no good reason. I like leupold swaro(turrents unavailable) zeiss and vortex. Schmit and Bender would be nice too. Zeiss and vortex make affordable, good glass and turrets, look at those. Choose a good bullet that works well, flies great, and doesn't damage a lot of meat, they are out there. I like the 180 accubond, others like different ones. People here on the forum are a great recource. send 308nut a pm, he is very helpfull. Everyone has different opinions and preferences, as mine above. In short to answer your questions: 1: You will never regret a rem700 action. 2: .30s dont make things "too dead" and buck the wind better. 3: You have to have a good trigger, Timneys are less expensive and work well, I like a break between 2-3lbs 4. I like turrets, look at kenon industries. See what sciopes they will fit and see what you like. I think vortex is making some good stuff now for long range rifles. The better scopes really help when your buddy is talking you into the deer when your looking for his nose or ear or something. Ive spent 2k on my go to rifle. To get marginal better use out of it, it would cost me a lot more money.

Well the guys who have them, I know, still love them and they haven't worn them out yet. They arent as hard on boots as me. I bought some new Lowas and a newer pair of Merrels. I hope I'll be good for 2 years with 2 pairs. I would love to have a place to go try on kenetreks. Its hard ponying up 300$ on something that probably wont fit. I would definately sytop in and slip some on if you would have them. I dont know anywhere that stocks them. Thats a lot of capital to invest in some shoes for you to sell some shoes.

Kowa Spotter VS. Swarovski Spotter
youngbuck replied to SuperiorBowHunter's topic in Optics and tripods
The big jump I believe is due to the magnesium body and being"hd". Any above brand mentioned will be top notch, there are more differences in peoples' eyes than clarity in the best spotters. -
Pretty much everything was said. Bright green is easy to see certain times of the year. One of my favorite classes taken at a college was a Geology class at ASU. The teacher was from AZ and worked for some of the mines in the state lookin for copper i think. Any ways she knew her stuff about AZ. Very interesting course, I'll never look at rock formations or mountain the same again. I took other geology courses but that one at ASU was the best.
