AZR brought up another point. All eberlestock hip belts feel really high on me too. When the packs are loaded, it is just right. It was akward at first, but it takes the weight off my shoulders really well. Top notch customer service too. I've called more than once for replacement buckles. They just ask for my address and ship them out.

Looking for decent set on 8x or 10x for turkey hunting
youngbuck replied to desertmafia21's topic in Classified Ads
You might be able to find a pair of used Monarch ATBs at that price. A used set of Zen Ray ED2s will run a little higher, but I am really happy with mine, it would be money well spent. -
I use the gunslinger. It can easily hold a quartered up whitetail or elk hind quarter plus some. I like it because my bipod doesn't get in the way with it. The smaller scabards will also work with the bipod too, they are just a snug fit. I use the larger scabard to haul 2 tripods and a grunt tube if archery hunting. The X series are great packs too, only a little smaller. My buddy packed out an entire desert sheep on an X1. My dad also uses an X1. I've never wished my gunslinger was bigger. I also have a frame pack wich rarely gets used. I use my gunslinger even when packing out bulls. The J series are great too, I've just never had the need for a larger pack.

I do use diaphrams and always have, just thinking of switching so im not running around with the call in my mouth....nearly inhaled one last year running up a steep hill! I try to keep mine in my hatband of a ball cap. I had on of those clip deals that clips to your hat to hold a diaphram. It didn't work as well as the hatband. The small tubed, blue tipped bugles sound good and are easy to make sound good.

Looks like they are getting new uniforms. I can't imagine dumping sparky. http://www.kpho.com/valleynews/27449804/detail.html

I have one of those smaller blue tipped bugles from primos. I'd use that if I lost my reeds and grunt tube. It sounds really good, like a smaller bull. I dont want to sound like some 380 bull. I want to sound like an over confident rag 5pt.

I do, but not very often. If you were wondering about where to have your resource guide, I would think wide word of maps. They have books. I always browse through what they have when I go there.

Adjusting for drop using turrets doesn't matter what power you use. Reticles can matter what power you are on, depends on what focal plane the reticle is in. If the reticle gets larger and smaller while zooming it doesn't matter what power you use, that is the 1st focal plane.

Go to an outdoors store and look at the bags designed to go on the gas tank of a quad. Thats what we use. They are cheap and work well. I use mine as a pad too.

Get in the best shape you can and get acclimated to the elevation. You can catch up and get infront of elk moving. It isn't a stroll in the park, but can be done. Your tag is the one going on the bull. Don't let your buddy talk you into or out of a bull.

Not too sure if they have kids sizes, but VF factory outlet is the best place to buy camo. Wrangler rugged wear hold up really well and its dirt cheap at VF.

Looking for a New Scope, need help?
youngbuck replied to robertramsey61's topic in Optics and tripods
I have the older Vortex viper. I really like it. I took off my 1" swaro w/ a TDS reticle and swapped it for the Vortex. Some of the monarchs I like for the money. If it was my 500$, I would look real hard at the Vipers. I know you didnt ask but if you go with a drop compensating reticle, you will probably eventually want to change to turrets. I did. Both take practice to know them really well. -
I grew up thinking if you did go off trail you could be fined up to 100$ per square foot for damage. I've never heard of anybody getting slapped with a hefty fine. Then again, If i was fined I would go around tellling folks. Somebody, years ago, told me that in the Kaibab NF there are no rules for driving off the roads. Its too bad stupid and lazy can't be fixed.

Well I have no giant coues buck photos from my archery hunt but did get a chance to photograph another one of my favorite AZ critters.

Care to share some info on pouring your own??? Sounds interesting for sure. Thanks for the info everybody, I appreciate the time.....and effort I used Lure Craft(might be one word) plastisol, a few lurecraft RTV silicone, and del-mart molds (from AZ). He has CnC machined aluminum molds that work really well. I also made my own molds on occasion. At the time we were drop shotting a lot so I poured lots of roboworm types layered with different colors. I also poured a bunch of grubs and bass assassins for smallies. It takes time to get decent at puting for layered colors, but its fun, like reloading. Senkos use 2 part molds (more expensive). I used plastisol, plastisol softener (for more movement), floured salt (put normal salt in a blender), and normal salt. I have all my recipes in a book somewhere. Plastisol floats when it sets up, salt sinks. I started hunting a lot more, and got away from fishing and tournaments. I had a buddy win a bass tournament in ID off my hand pouresd bass assassins. I got a kick out of catching fish off my own brand. Tackleunderground.com is one of my old forum hangouts. There are some real artists on there. A few of the big swim bait guys today were on there before the got "famous", they may still post on there. Some of those guys' baits should be framed, hanging on a wall. Its a lot like creapy crawler sets I suppose. I started on a hot plate w/ aluminum pots and moved to a microwave. Micro is definately the way to go. I used pyrex cups filled with the liquid plastisol (reminds me of skim milk). It heats up in the micro and turns clear. Then I added colors, flake, iridescent powders, scent/flavor and salt. Some of the robo pours were pretty complex; 4 layer pours (4 different colors)with 2 guys. You have to make sure the plastic is hot enough to "fuse" but cool enough to not mix the colors. At one time I had like 20 different colors, a dozen types of glitter, 4 or 5 iridescent powders, half a dozen scents. The liquid, colored, glittered, and scented plastisol goes into the mold to cool and set up. Aluminum molds make really nice finish texture on the worms (glossy) the RTV molds dont last as long, but some worm oil help them work better. If i didn't hunt as much as I do now, I would still be pouring my own. I still use stuff I poured years ago, and it still catches fish. Some key tips I learned the hard way: Liquid plastic is HOT!!!!!(I've learned that one more than once) Cheap glitter (craft stores) melts and is useless. Plastisol when set up can melt other plastics; ABS and other hard plastics (mechanical pencils) Don't do it in the kitchen, it stinks

I used to pour my own pretty often. Its crazy they can get 6$+ a pack and they are half salt. They are real easy to make once you get your ratios dialed in.

Unbelievable! I need to take some pointers on how to fill out an aplication next go around. My dad got rejected for non marking of resident/non resident. He has a lifetime hunting licence, I dont really understand than one, but they beat him outa 2 bonus poins and his 6$

gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold.... That guy is somethin else. It would be cool to watch on TV. It would be pretty difficult to edit and film to keep the skyline out of frame. You wouldn't want to give away any of your honey holes. I suppose boots would be at the top of that sponsor list with the miles you gotta put on.

I think a match because of tine spacing and MB shape, I think not because tine angle and the 5th. I do think they are off the same bull and probably a match set. If I found em I'd say they were a match

I was kinda hoping I was the only one, because Ive heard really good thing about his work. As for the gunsmith question, one local smith that has built some rigs for my buddies is Whitecloud. Ive never seen any of his work or talked to him, but he is a local guy who does LR builds. When I was planning my build I opted for a smith out of Utah, by 308's suggestion. He answered all of my questions and was super helpfull. Really nice guy who was easy to talk to. When I finaly decide to have one built, that is who I will go with.
-
I called Gary Schneider, he wasn't the most helpful guy Ive ever talked too. I have heard good things about his barrels though. I don't know near as much as some guys on this forum, but I've been researching for a few years now. I've heard the same thing about Hart.

Seems like the property owner should be allowed to hunt his own land (assuming he has a valid tag for the area). He should also allow people to hunt it, at his discresion. It is insane what some guys will way but it is supply and demand. If the land owner can make a buck or two for some one using their land, I'm ok with it. I will never pay some one an acess fee or use fee. The hunter payed the AZGFD for the animal, and the land owner for use of the land. I do think its wrong that a land owner can deny thousands of public acres just by locking a gate. I also see the land owner's point of view. I wouldn't want a bunch of yahoos running around my land. I learned from older guys whol learned from older guys. If some one is nice enough to let you use their land, pay them back. Offer to do some work, say thank you, give them some game meat. If things stay the same, I'll do what I always have, find another way in and wear out some boot leather.

Man I hate this time of year. I always think I'll have nothing going on(no hunts). I end up having to pick between bass on beds, crappie, or fresh browns...... Atleast I've already got 2 out of the way, I'll have to make a few loops for some browns in the next few weeks.

I thought the paid results deal was through a 900#. I could be wrong, but thats how I remember it. The 900 line wasn't busy and the 602# was.

I just pulled my swaro off my 300RUM and replaced it with a 50mm viper. I think we ended up buying 3 when doug(cameralandny) had the target dot reticles really cheap. I know 6-7 guys who bought those scopes. They have worked really well for us. It isn't as clear as my swaro, but not too far behind. I prefer to use balistic software and my turrets over the TDS in my Swaro. The viper has really distinct clicks and the turrets are easy and fast to read. In load development for mt dads 7mag, he hit a 10" rock at 981yds 1st shot. We are still tuning the load, but the scope has worked great so far.
