Dont believe the myth that light rifles will not shoot. And if you hunt hard, weight matters. What are all your categories that heavy rifles win in?

Light is bad?

I'd put a camera up to make sure but it is too wet right now. Deer are scattered in southern Arizona. Many small tinajas and puddles all over the place. Many waters I keep track of will not be used until October/November or as soon at the monsoon tinajas and puddles dry up.

What bullet are you planning on running and throating for?

Guys and gals - I'm looking for a project gun to try a few new things out. I'm looking for a beater or used Remington 700 in .270, .30-06, or .25-06. Stainless or matte is fine. 800 yards for deer will be fine for the .270 with the right bullets. I'd be thinking the 150 grain+ Bergers or the 150 LR Accubond which if the BC holds up is a game changer for the .270. Get a good MV of 2,950+ with any of these bullets, make sure you have little vertical dispersion, a good tracking scope, and practice. 800 yards is no big deal with good proven gear and with an experienced shooter.
