Correct - RL-17 may be "sensitive" relatvie to other extreme powders but you won't notice much until you get to pretty far below zero. In Arizona I imagine you are just fine -

That is slow, especially in a 24" tube... Try Hunter, RL-17, RL-19 or a plethora of other suitable powders. Shooting that bullet would want me to get to at least 2750 on the low end, 2850 on the top end with accuracy before I would be satisfied with that setup. Good luck -

Did you go see the petroglyphs while you were in there? I've only recently seen coues in there, even in the valley flood below the pond there. Good luck and keep us posted -

Feral pigs would never be prolific (like in Texas) in southern Arizona I wouldn't think mainly due to the summer heat here and the availability (or lack thereof) of water. Hogs do not do well in heat and cannot go far from water when it's hot. Therefore, during summer months they would likely only be found within a half mile or so of water or else they would not survive which would limit their overall numbers. Just some thoughts from a tranplanted Texas dude who has killed truckloads of hogs and trapped even more.

RL-17 is good stuff but is not the magical powder some make it out to be. It does appear to be very useful in the medium capacity cartridges. It shines in my wife's .243 (3400+ with 80's), it shined in my old .260 (3200+ with 100's), and it provides good accuracy and velocities in my .22-250 Ackley with heavies (3200+ with 80's) and my 7mm-08 (2900+ with 140's).

I had been traveling west to hunt deer for the last 10+ years while living in Texas. While not all hunting in Texas is from a stand, hunting big country in the west cannot be beat for sure -
