The 6x45 in a AR platform and a 2.26" or so max OAL will allow you to shoot heavier bullets in 6mm vs. .224" with the constrained OAL. The only 70 grain buller you can reasonably run at 2.26" withour sacrificing significant poweder capacity is the 70 Sierra SMP which has the BC of a mattress. Running something like the 53 grain .224" Amax will get you to 400 easily in the vanilla .223 with a 2.26" OAL. You will also get there with a 75 Vmax in 6x45 at 2,900... I'd check out the 6 or 6.5 DTI that Mike at DTech has to offer dependent on what direction you want to go. good luck -

Stomp, Don't run the numbers then for the .300 WM, or even the '06 against the .260 slinging bullets such as the heavy'ish Berger or Lapua offerings with BC's exceeding .6 or even .7. Run the numbers on a 155 .308" scenar in the .308 as well. There are some really good .308" bullets.

A .260 is a fine cartridge and is about perfect for deer. It was my primary rifle for over 5 years a while back. Components are easy to find and/or form (I'd be thinking Lapua cases). Barrel life is forever, recoil is negligible. With 130's and 140's you'll notice a bit more than a .243 but relatively speaking the .260 has very little recoil. The rifle stock fit and configuration will likely be more important in your felt recoil. I'd be thinking high BC bullets, which is why 6.5mm's shine. Topping this list would be the soon to be released 129 Nosler LR Accubond. Close begind would be either the 130 or 140 Berger offerings, or even the 123 Scenar. The 140 Ballistic Tip would be a good long range performer as well. Get you a Leupold with an M1 and a good LR, you have a legitimate 700+ yard cartridge if you want to put in the time. Dependent on barrel length, powder, and your handloads, if you maximize the cartdige's potential, you can generally expect 3,150+ with 100's, 2,900+ with 120's, 2,800+ with 130's, and 2,700+ with 140's... What rifle are you pondering purchasing?

I ran a 6x45 for quite a few years and played alot with it,. Also killed a bunch of stuff too. Reasonable velocities in a 20 to 22" barrel are 2,750 to 2,800 with 85's, 2800 to 2850 with 80's, and 2,950 to 3,000 with 70's and 75's..... Best 2 powders for me far and away for BOTH velocity and accuracy were Ramshot TAC and H335. Both are really good but H335 was generally a bit faster and more accurate. I ran the 80 TTSX at 2800'ish and the 85 SGKHP at 2,725 or so. Both I could never keep inside a deer. The 75 grain Vmax is also a good one. I could generally push this bullet to nearly 3K as it has less bearing surface the the 70 Btip which equated to higher velocities before pressure signs. Neck up .223 brass, no fireforming required, and commence to shoot. Good luck with it. For deer specifically, I would have no issues running a 70 grain Ballistic Tip as I could hardly keep one of these in a deer either. At impact velocities of the 6x45, the 70 BT is far less frangible and gives excellent penetration.

Thanks for the kind words. Let's drop the price to $1,050 which includes the components described above. Again, local or regional sale is preferred. This is a very nice rifle in great shape. -
Remington 700 Sendero, .300 RUM, stainless, fluted (SOLD)
Big or Bust posted a topic in Classified Ads
I have a low post count on this board but am active on other boards. Members I know on CWT can vouch for me if needed. I am selling this rifle for a good buddy who is more into bow hunting than cheating with a rifle (as he calls it). I have the rifle in my possession. This is a factory Remington 700 Sendero in .300 Remington Ultra Magnum. Is is stainless, fluted, with black flutes as seen in photos. The rifle has exactly 39 rounds through it as he had 11 of the the original load of 50 that shot perfect out of the gate. The factory trigger is excellent. This gun shoots very, very well with 180 Accubonds and IMR 7828. The gun has killed 2 elk and has mostly been shot at the rifle range. It is used but in excellent condition. The rifle sale includes 100 count of Nosler .300 RUM brass (50 new, rest once fired) and 50 180 grain Nosler Accubonds. This is easily $200 in components that are hard to find right now. $1,100 for the package Local or regional pickup preferred. I am in Tucson. I will ship and insure the rifle for $35 more. First I'll take it gets the rifle. -

Correct - RL-17 may be "sensitive" relatvie to other extreme powders but you won't notice much until you get to pretty far below zero. In Arizona I imagine you are just fine -
-
That is slow, especially in a 24" tube... Try Hunter, RL-17, RL-19 or a plethora of other suitable powders. Shooting that bullet would want me to get to at least 2750 on the low end, 2850 on the top end with accuracy before I would be satisfied with that setup. Good luck -

Did you go see the petroglyphs while you were in there? I've only recently seen coues in there, even in the valley flood below the pond there. Good luck and keep us posted - -
Feral pigs would never be prolific (like in Texas) in southern Arizona I wouldn't think mainly due to the summer heat here and the availability (or lack thereof) of water. Hogs do not do well in heat and cannot go far from water when it's hot. Therefore, during summer months they would likely only be found within a half mile or so of water or else they would not survive which would limit their overall numbers. Just some thoughts from a tranplanted Texas dude who has killed truckloads of hogs and trapped even more.

Anyone have any experience with RL17?
Big or Bust replied to 123456's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
RL-17 is good stuff but is not the magical powder some make it out to be. It does appear to be very useful in the medium capacity cartridges. It shines in my wife's .243 (3400+ with 80's), it shined in my old .260 (3200+ with 100's), and it provides good accuracy and velocities in my .22-250 Ackley with heavies (3200+ with 80's) and my 7mm-08 (2900+ with 140's). -

I had been traveling west to hunt deer for the last 10+ years while living in Texas. While not all hunting in Texas is from a stand, hunting big country in the west cannot be beat for sure - -

Casey, I had to slip her a bit of cash on the side. Why don't you just build a SAUM in 6.5 or 7 in a faux Ti platform? Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. I have looked at everyone else's coues and I figured I owed my dues.
