If you can find the giant desert bucks in daylight while they are not rutting, you are doing extremely well. These spots are very hard to find.

I agree with the first commenter. The big boys are out and thinking about it but are still mainly roaming. This is still huge at this time of year. Next week it will be on here.

So few hybrid deer out there - Folks who yell "hybrid" first are usually the envious ones, or the most clueless ones... Should every front or back of a mule deer buck taken be considered a hybrid if they didn't fork and look like a whitetail? Or only if it's a huge muley? Silly stuff folks...

There are plenty of DIY folks who kill and chase big deer every year. You have to have a sick passion and be plenty stubborn. You have to have available time to scout and be in the field. You have to be a super glasser, not afraid to hike the biggest mountain and walk back to the truck in the dark for miles. People can say you need luck but doing lots of little things adds up to you making your own luck.

What your gun prefers.....

Find a green stick and unclog that tube. The green stick will not hurt the barrel. Bullets in lands are easy to clear.

A wsm on a la will need some work. Find another donor.

Short action- .260 or 7-08. Long action- 6.5-06 or 280... Ackley them if wanted. Spend rest on time scouting and hunting.

Really really easy to distunguish a coues from a mule deer. That you have to bring that issue up while referencing the AGFD pictures means you are probably uncomfortable doing it yourself. Not all of us have issues with ID and really do not have to think about it. Great deer-

Standard twist .243" tubes will not be able to shoot the 115 or even some of the 105 VLD type bullets. Standard .243 factory twists a 95 VLD is the best bet and still has a BC approaching .5. This bullet at 3,200 is a fantastic combo with light recoil.
