grin...take a big deep breath chief. This is all fun stuff. Don't take it so seriously. Not sure what my IQ is but owning my own business and getting to hunt and shoot steel 4 months a year must mean I'm doing something right, right? you've bought into the long range hunting deal hook, line and sinker. I love me some BC but come on...Congrats? Trust me bud, I burn just a scootch of powder as well and get in the woods just a fair "bit" and even shoot at pretty far distances regularly. You can do your ballistic lecture on 99% of the folks here but there are people out there that you don't know who are pretty savvy cats as well. No need for the ballistics 101 lecture. I asked velocities simply because I was in traffic and typing on phone. Thank you so much for those hard to calculate numbers. The numbers you cited earlier are misleading simply because no one should ever shoot a Nosler Partition at a critter with an impact velocity slightly above 1400 fps. That's just irresponsible and way below the mimimum for bullet function which makes the wind drift look worse than it should be. But now that you mention it, you may not care what a bullet's impact velocity is. Didn't you shoot a deer at over 1200 yards or something with a 140 Amax from a 6.5-284 a few years back? I'm not on here a whole lot but remember you typing a big story about it and me shaking my head. With a 2950 MV, that puts the impact at under 1400 fps. Perfect. The Partition load you cited is a 600 yard load at most so compare the drift numbers at the NP load at 600 with the Berger load at 700 (approximately where I'm guessing it falls below 1800 fps and the performance that Eric at Berger recommends as minimum impact (guessing as my ballistic program just took a dump on me and am having to reboot). The drift is far less of a practical difference which any reticle/turret combo of today's golden age of optics can easily account for. And you still need to read the wind regardless of BC although a higher BC can allow you to be a more sucky wind reader. Yes, BC matters a lot but when tags are being punched it is no way even on the list of things that will make someone successful. Not even close. The point is that BC is so far down the list of what someone needs to worry about when going to kill something it's not even funny. You think that everyone who doesn't shoot the highest BC bullet possible is just not very smart while giving the impression that a bullet's BC makes up for lots of hunter incompetencies. This is simply not the case but it seems like you are trying to make up for something. Here are just a very small sampling of critters from the past year or so that weren't shot with the highest most bestest BC possible. Happy Shooting! .338 and 250 Berger .270 and 140 Berger .280 Ackley Improved and 140 Accubond A muzzleloader! GASP! 7-08 and 140 Bergers Even my wife can do it! With a 7-08 and a 140 E-tip. This deer never left his bed... dang, she did it again this year! Pink guns make the bullet drift at least 10% further..grin...

Yeah - way under the impact thresholds for optimum performance for both so the drifts are misleading under a hunting circumstance...

What are your 800 yard impact velocities for both comparison loads that you left out?

A bullet's BC is simply a hunter's tool. Just like good bins, a knife, or a tent. It absolutely doesn't make up for hunting know how or a fat azz not wanting to hike half a mile because he thinks he can shoot that far... Some people think that a bigger cartridge or a high BC bullet makes up for them sucking as a hunter. It absolutely does not regardless what they have read in Field and Stream magazine or how high they scored at their last range match on their beanbags...

Guys, I just saw this but wanted to say that I am originally from Texas. My brother owns and operates a whitetail and hog outfit and has a lot of hogs on his places. He also does a lot of hog hunts. Good dude with good land in West Central Texas. You'll see lots of pigs. Bruce Williams 325-347-7679 Hangemhighwhitetails.com

Best thing going for gongs and a great company - Get a steel post adapter and you can mount a gong to a T-post and literally take it anywhere. No making pipe stands BS, no dealing with leg hits, etc. Drive a T-post after mounting a 12" round to it and start shooting. Awesome product from these guys... http://www.jcsteeltargets.com/ https://jcsteeltargets.mycustomevent.com/ShoppingCart.aspx?com=detailview&iid=73&cid=247&returncom=productlist&source=search

Rifle & Scope for First Coues Hunt
Big or Bust replied to Kimber_Hunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You backpacking or day hunting from camp? Accuracy would determine my choice but packability a close second. Either is way enough for coues... The rifle is such a small part of the equation. Don't get hung up on rifle choices... -
I just saw it comes with a generator too...dang...

Night Force SHV & Burris XTR II Scopes
Big or Bust replied to darrcolburn's topic in Long Range Shooting
Nightforce or SWFA. I'd stick with NXS too, the SHV doesn't have as robust internals as the NXS. -

Higher capacity cartridges see little velocity gain with adding powder a grain at a time, especially with slower powders. 1 grain at a time at 70 grains is only 1.3% more. Nature of the beast... I'd switch powders. You may have a slow barrel too... -
Guys - I'm selling my backup Swaro's since I have been running the HD's for a couple of years now. I bought these bins brand new in 2014. These have been used on a hill approximately 10 times. Green exterior armoring is in perfect condition. There are 3 tick areas in the left objective lens of the glass. These ticks are easily seen with the naked eye but do not affect the view through the binoculars whatsoever. (Think it was my sweet wife!) I sent them to Swarovski this past fall and they returned with a clean bill of health. Swaro also added two nylon straps for ease of attaching to a harness. Swarovski adaptors are junk so I have already tossed these out. Will come with a Vortex adaptor. So, what is included is the binoculars, case, all eyepiece covers, all straps including from SWARO, Vortex adaptor, lens cloth, and all paperwork. Price is $1,450. I am in the Tucson area. PM me and I'll text any interested parties pictures. Thanks for looking -
