There's a lot of love for the Tikkas. I will go back and check them out the two big strikes are barrel length and magazine. What scope would you recommend within the price point or a little over? May I ask why your sticking points are with barrel length and a magazine so I could answer a bit better?

Tikka T3 lite or Superlite in 7-08. Scope depends on if you are a dialer. If you are, I'd pass on all those scopes...

Bullet selection cripples the .257" and .277"...

I'd lean .280 Ackley Lance. Bit better choices for elk... Also factory brass or can form Lapua... I run Nosler brass in my .280 Ackley and it's pretty decent...

Is anyone needing these powders? I made a bulk purchase a few years back and just do not use these powders. I have about 9-10 pounds of RL-15 (2 separate 5 pound jugs), 7 pounds or so of Ramshot TAC (1 big jug), and 5 pounds of RL-19 (1 big jug). All are about 2 years old and stored indoors. I would trade for RL-16 or H4350 or would sell outright for going rate at Powder Valley (about the cheapest place online). I am in the Tucson area and would prefer FTF obviously. I've gotten to the top accuracy node with 6-8 firings on brass with the data I've provided in no fewer than 4 factory Tikka's with 22" tubes... 150's are 2775-2825 pretty routinely...

These are routine velocities of handloaders using powders listed in 22" barrels. Some of the new IMR stuff is even better. Nothing secret at all... Lawyered up published factory loads and load data is generally not the best thing to use for ballistics, even if you buy the cartridges. Nosler is the best by far for published data in my experiences...

A 22" 7-08 should easily get 2700+ with a 154.... I get 2700+ with 162's and a 22" tube... For strictly a coues rifle, I'd run a 140 Berger in your Tikka with a 2.805" mag length ... RL-17, RL-16, Big Game, or H4350

You may say you're not a Democrat but I got news for you... Oh, and older most definitely doesn't give you a pass on being wiser. There are lots of old guys who are bitter, think the world's against them, and think everyone under the age of 40 are idiots. I've found that generally, the old guys who are like this are bitter about younger people making choices in life and going about their business in ways they wish they would have.

Don't bring economics or common sense into this....grin...

I'd do archery no doubt.... By the time e you might draw a rifle tag, you'll already gave another archery tag in a mid tier unit.... I like to hunt... YMMV...
