Meopta. Swaros are fragile and I got tired of sending back 15's that were internally fogging resulting in me having to pay to fix the same issue 3 times in 5 years. Meopta are super bins. Don't miss Swaro at all quite frankly.

I agree. Maybe gets into the 40's...

My number 1 buck this past year, an old buck in the 190's broke his main beam off right above the brow sometime the week before opening day. Heartbreaking. My number 2 buck in the same area which I ended up targeting and killing, had fresh antler puncture wounds and lots of cape damage on his neck when I killed him likely from fighting with my Number 1 during the first November season. It was a weird year last year. Good stuff boys. Love talking big desert bucks.

I've had bucks, big bucks, consistently hitting cams on water. For years, spring through pre-rut. One summer their water dries up and I get the same deer on other cams many miles away never to return to the area they called home for years even with new water. They rehomed if you will. Big old desert bucks are fascinating and will teach you a lot about deer that runs counter to common thoughts IME...

Agree. Desert bucks can move. A lot and far chasing water. I agree with the roving home range too relative to resources. They will also move far to rut. Most of the bucks I chase are solo deer as they tend to do in the desert with some age. Not all, but most. If you've got bucks found, they'll be around that area during your hunt. Only two things will change that, their water dries up or lions move in. Both will make bucks disappear.

I think it's trending towards no leftovers and archery draw for sure in the next 5-10 years but I think this year, in most states out west, everybody wants to be a farmer and provider this year with the "Rona" BS and put meat on the table. I mean heck, go to your local Ace. Everyone idiot now wants to raise chickens, goats, cows, etc. All of a sudden....

Would you take a .223 for your wife?

Thanks for the laugh - -
Yep - when I got them I was skeptical. I immediately went on a 10 mile walkabout through catclaw, mesquite, scrub, etc. I was impressed by the end of it and still am as they are holding up well to boot.

Great buck...

Lance, how close to 200" is that dude? Gotta be 195" ish...

The Sawbuck pant has replaced my carharts in stickery shrubby catclaw country. Legit. Plus a warm weather pant I'd call it.

A .243 is plenty fine for any deer sized game pretty far out there dependent on BC and MV. Fret shot placement and secondarily the bullet. The cartridge is plenty fine.

What would be your minimum for big mulies and is there a difference in your eyes between desert mulies and Rockies?

Nice post, not surprising ...
