    Archery Proficiency Test????

WOW! The reason I posted this is we have had this come up many many times at the range. I spend a LOT of time there to learn to to shoot the best I can. Then 2 to 3 weeks before archery season comes along the range is flooded with "Bowhunters" that are flinging arrows way past the yardage they should be shooting. Now with that said . I do not thing that we should have to pass a shooting test I just asked the question. It would be a wonderful world if everyone could make a perfect shot everytime but it just can not happen. But I do believe there should be some way to educate people rifle or bow. I just wish I had the answer but I don"t that is why I was asking the question. The reason I do not think a shooting test works is because I have seen some great shooters hit the X's at 80 yards and turn around and miss elk and deer at 20 yards. Its just not the same!

    New Rifle Help!!!!

Well, I decided to go with 270 WSM I think but it is going to be a little while before I buy it. I just got back from the archery shop and ordered my "07" Hoyt bow. I did not get a tag this year so I got to a few months before I buy one.

    2007 Hoyt Line up!

Dave Had lots of bent Tec risers in the past also. Until everyone realized it was there bow presses. I think it would be hard to design a bow that everyone likes to shoot. I love my Trycon more than any Hoyt I have ever shot. But I HATED the 80% letoff on the Zepher cam I went with 65% and love it. Also I like the extra weight of the bow.I actually shoot a heavier stabilizer than most people do on these bows also. To me the more weight the steadier the shot is for me. The next best for me was my UltraTecs with Spirals. They shot great also. The new cams are said to be more like the draw curve of the Spiral cams. I should get a chance to shoot them soon I will let you know how they are.

    2007 Hoyt Line up!

No more Bronze cams and pockets. And they kept the Trycon Xl. But looks like did away with the short Trycon and replaced it with the Sport. Sorry dave did not see the UltraTec. I think that is what you were shooting?

    223 wssm reloading

Like coueshunter84 said start with a book. Buy the one for the brand or books for the brands of bullet you want to shoot. Most if not all will take you through it step by step.

    New Rifle Help!!!!

Totally agree on the scopes. My dad was a sniper on a SWAT team I know about the need for a quality scope on a high end rifle.

    New Rifle Help!!!!

You are not gaining much here My 270win has worked well for me.I think it is more just a chance to try something new and to work on some new loads on a new rifle and to pass on my old faithful to my son. You did bring up a great point I think it is time to pull out the Nosler book and do some research there. Thanks again Everyone!

    34A

Bring your Blaze orange! I have hunted there for years. Brought my son there to hunt last year and was on a hill side glassing when a spike buck came running up behind us and stopped at less than 10 yards. Scared the heck out of us and my son started to stand up because he thought he was about to get run over. Then BOOOM!!! and the dust flew under the deer. Two guys were down in the not so flat flats shooting at the little guy and never saw us! I jerked him back down to the ground and yelled at the guys as one more shot rang out. Lucky for us it ran away before they shot again. Not saying it was because we were in 34a it can happen any were. After that I will not rifle hunt with out some blaze orange on. And I was one of those guys that would never were it. Good luck on your hunt this is the first time I was not drawn for 34a when I put in for it.

    Fletchings

I get my Denatured Alcohol at Home Depot. It is cheaper than the hospital unless you got some connections!! We use acetone to clean aluminum arrows it will take vanes and nocks off in no time. But I have heard it will break down carbon arrows and make them weak. I guess if they are over splined that would be ok.LOL!

    Fletchings

My bad!! do not use acetone. Use Denatured Alcohol. Not sure why I said acetone?

    Fletchings

You will need to know what vanes you are putting on. Some vanes use fast set glue some use slower drying glue. Some need to be cleaned with acetone some do not. If you do not use the proper glue they will fall off. With a Whisker Biscuit your best bet is Bohning vanes and Fletch-Tite glue. I say Bohning because they are stiff and will not wrinkle as fast with the biscuit.

Hey Dave Sounds like you are doing great. Not sure if your shooting regiment will allow it but our archery club is having a 3D shoot at Usery the 7th and 8th. I will not be able to make it to the shoot but I will be there to set targets on Fri. I can send you the yardages for a small fee!!! LOL!!!!!!
