Not to sure I understand some G&F's decision making. I have never been a big G&F hater ether but some of you may remember me posting about Usery archery range closing. Well we had contacted G&F about this and they kept bringing up that bowhunters were on a decline and they had started a huge archery program to get people mostly kids in to archery. They even hired Denise who is in charge of the program. Now this is were I get confused now they are saying there are to many bowhunters killing to many deer? Or am I not seeing it correctly? This was less than a year ago that all this went on with the range so I guess there new archery program must really be working. I can kinda see were the rifle only guys think its a great idea for us to have to draw because they do. But at the same time do what I did years ago buy a bow and extend your season. What I don't get is how anyone knows the true numbers of deer killed and how many hunters are hunting in a particular unit when all they have is a half hearted flawed way of doing it. We can sit here and say there was to many hunters were I hunt and then talk to a guy in the same unit that never saw another hunter were he was hunting. I guess what I'm trying to say is how can they make a huge decision like this if they do not have true statistics on the number of hunters in a unit or deer harvest numbers! At the same time this could be the first step to get better statistics but I do not think its the answer. I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will tell me if I am.

Well got the call from a friend of mine (Harry) yesterday evening he was so excited I thought he was going to jump through the phone. He said"You now that buck I got pictures of? Well I just shot him!!" So I headed up to give him a hand looking for the deer. I get there (It's Dark) Harry has an arrow full of blood and can not find a drop on the ground. After an hour of tracking some deer in the direction he told me the deer went I said lets go back to the shot and start all over! There was only one other way the deer could have gone in that direction with out busting through thick brush. So I went there and with in 10 yards we had blood!! Fallowed the trail with the flashlights for about 100 to 125 yards and there he was. It was awesome! I have never been with a guy with so much emotion. He worked hard for this buck and you could see it in his excitement. This was only his second buck with a bow and I think it's a dandy!!(For a Carp) Congrats Harry Here are some cell phone pictures that is all I had at the time. I need to buy a new camera BAD!! Younghunter you may know this guy and I think you saw pics of the deer when he just started to grow.

You know I talked about helping out on finding this buck for a great friend and how happy he was, and how good it made me feel to be able to help him out. Well it was even better to think over that great night with a plate full of fresh thinly slices back strap floured up and fried up with onions!!!!O'MY GOD THAT WAS DELISH!!!!! I wish I could have had you all over for lunch!

Manzanita Thickets Yuck! I have spotted a few bucks in it for about 2 seconds! Also have spent some time on my hands and knees bowhunting up in your neck of the woods Amanda and asking myself what the (blank) I was doing in this crap!! I like ocotillo hill sides and grasslands with mesquite trees. -
No pics yet I worked all day today and have not talked to him. I'm sure he got them printed up and has been to every archery shop in town today!!!LOL Thanks to everyone for the great replies. Not sure the wife liked me throwing my dinner plate in the sink and running out the door till midnight but there in nothing like helping friend's or family out on there hunts when it is needed.

YA, If anyone has not checked they may want to. I'm right handed and right eye dominant and still can not shoot a bow with both eyes open.Just because you can not shoot your bow with both eyes open does not mean your other eye is more dominant.
-
Ya what he said! I reload my 140gr Accubond and they shoot very well!
-
He should be up scouting. He better be anyway he missed shooting at night league thursday.

I have a daughter it needs a bigger LOCK!! -
I guess I will ad my 2 cents. For what its worth. I would not recommend ANY mechanical broad head to some one shooting to little KE. Even if she was using a 350gr arrow(I don't think she is shooting that heavy) at 230 fps she is at 41# of KE. Maybe on the perfect broadside shot and perfect shot placement that would be enough but we all know how often we get that shot. I think its the action of the blades folding back on impact that kills the speed KE and will cause the poor penetration on the not so perfect shot. I have shot a lot of heads in the past. Vortex was one I used for years it is a great head and even better since the lengthened the front of it so more of the tip is in the animal before the blades start to open. But the blades still need to fold over while entering and passing through the animal as most of these heads do. And that will stop a slow light arrow in its tracks on a not so perfect shot. With low KE I think a cut on contact head is the only way to go.

Coues Deer Celebration 4 video is out!
BowNut replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Man that was Awesome! Just got me more pumped for the season to get here! Its great to see the kids and families coming together. Thats my goal this year is to get my son and dad a deer and to build some more great memories. A successful hunt is getting closer to who you hunt with. Not always getting close to what you are hunting. Filling the tag is just a +. Great video and a great website. Thanks for all your hard work for our enjoyment Amanda -
