I fart in your general direction.

When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants, in your room. It's for fun.

Seems most companies have gone to low rise tight thigh jeans. I hate them! I have to buy a size big in the waiste for jeans to fit right in the thigh. And when did all jeans start getting made of spandex stretchy material? It's the spandex mafia... they're everywhere

Be careful as a thick winter glove can cause you to fire before you're ready. I use a pair of silk liner gloves. They are thin but warm and have good sense of touch with them. Over top of the silk gloves I wear some thick knit wool gloves, trigger finger cut off. This works perfect for me

I so want to hunt these birds. Is it difficult to get permission to hunt on the farms? -
I've tried tanning myself. Ruined my first 2 cow elk hides. I have my last cow elk hide in the garage - tanning done, but far from a professional job. I would still need to work at softening it up and making it more pliable it I were going to use it for making clothing or moccasins or something. A few things I learned: First, I recommend anyones first attempt tanning be on something smaller than an elk. Man what a lot of work. A lot of surface area, and it's thick compared to deer or smaller animals. By far the most work was fleshing and scraping the hide. I used the paste method and won't try that again as I'm not sure how thoroughly the tanning solution penetrated the hide, and not sure how important that is. Regarding the OP, squirrel and rabbit skins are a good place to start. Nice and small, and if you screw them up, no great loss.

That's awesome. Congrats! -
Thanks for the responses everyone. Now let the controversy begin. Found this earlier today. http://azdailysun.com/tracking-the-last-grizzly/article_60b39b0d-e320-5e95-90b9-eb948d4dfa14.html

Getting ready to put in app and I see for spring turkey there are 2 hunts, an early hunt lasts 6 days and a second hunt that's 20 days. Why 2 hunts? Is one better than other? Are turkeys mating during the entire time for both hunts?

Thanks for all the awesome replies!

I disagree that the receiving core is fine. There was a 50% reception rate last game. Unacceptable. Yes, some were not great throws, but there were a lot of dropped balls. M. Floyd leading the way.

Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice.

Coach, I read your post about 4 hours ago, but decided to go hike South Mountain before responding. Yes, "soul searching" like PRDATR said. Old Socrates said the unexamined life isn't worth living. Heard someone else say recently that the examined life aint always that great either. Ha! Seriously, a little soul searching every once in a while is a good thing. Agree with Snapshot too that this earthly life is only a small part of our existence. My wife and I lost our firstborn son - killed in a car accident when he was 6 years old, and his death sure caused me to look and think about things. To be honest it almost ruined me, but a close friend told me it doesn't matter whether you live 6 years or 90, either way is a short time compared to eternity. I really didn't want to live anymore for awhile, but I had a wife and kids that needed me, so I found a way to get my $#!+ together and move on. Now I didn't share this looking for sympathy because I've long since made peace with it, but a lot of times it's a personal tragedy that really causes us to reflect. Other times, it's just an awareness of out mortality as life takes its toll on us. I'm 56, and physically anyway, my best days are certainly behind me. Let's see, I've got a ruptured disk in my back, gravel in my left shoulder, and arthritis in my hips and knees. Had a heart attack 4 years ago and quadruple bypass surgery. Other than that, I feel pretty good! Cranked out 6 miles on S. Mountain this morning in 90 minutes. Two years ago (18 months after open heart surgery), I tested for my black belt in Karate. It was a grueling 4 hour test, and there wasn't anyone that could keep up with me, including the teens and 20 somethings. But I am slowing down. I'm feeling it. Sometimes I think God lets us have this gradual deterioration, all the aches and pains, to remind us that our life on this earth is temporary, and we're not going to be here forever. Anyway, I'm going to keep on keeping on, gonna kick until I can't kick no more. Soul searching helps us to get our priorities straight. To be honest I feel blessed. Have a wife that loves me and still have 2 kids at home that I would do anything for. Our youngest son turns 18 next month, and I'm just trying to get him to graduate high school. My 13-year-old daughter is a competitive figure skater and has her act totally together. I want to be around for as long as possible to be here for them. I'm 8 years away from medicare and just hoping I make it before another heart attack. Hoping to spend a lot more time hunting and fishing as I don't get to head up the mountain nearly as often as I'd like to now. But none of us knows. So it's important to live a good life today (as opposed to living the good life). PRDATR, 30% is not great, but if he follows his diet and takes his meds and follows the program, your son can live a long life, God willing. I think all of us fall off the good guy wagon sometimes. I know I sure do.

Agreed. I was up in 4A couple of weeks ago, and never saw so many elk. Only saw one really big bull, but there's more for sure.

Only place in Arizona I've been above timberline is San Francisco peaks. Climbed Mt. Humphrey once. All I saw was lightening bolts and hail stones.

That's a gnarly looking buck. I like it.

Anybody know what he paid for the tag? Wonder how much he paid the outfitter? Just curious...

"People, go to the AZGFD web site and read How the Draw works" Well if you read my OP, I stated that I had just read the explanation and it was less than clear to me. I asked a question to see if my understanding was correct, and turns out it wasn't. "Actually it doesn't matter how it works". Not sure I agree. I actually have a pretty good success rate with the draw process: for elk, I've been drawn 5 times in 8 years. I believe this was because I picked choices with high draw odds and decent success rates. (Filled 4 of those tags - dang, I'm less than perfect). Or I could just be lucky at getting those randomly generated low numbers. "You just put in for the hunts that you want to go on and wait." I have a friend (hard to believe I know) and he only ever puts in for one unit because he likes that unit. He doesn't get drawn as much as I do. I guess it comes down to what you're putting in for. If you're one of those guys that's only after monster trophy animals, then you only put in for those primo units with low draw odds ..."and wait." As for me, I want to hunt as often as possible. I'd like to be out there every year if I could. So I study and pick hunts with high draw odds with good success rates so that my friends (hard to believe I know) and I have a reasonable chance of filling our tags. Sometimes that means I get drawn for a unit I've never set foot in before. Turns out that that's awesome! That means I get to buy new maps, spend ridiculous amounts of time on Google Earth, and make scouting trips into new territory (new for me anyway). That's what it's all about. That's all part of the hunt. So even though 5-out-of-8 draw success aint too bad, excuse me for thinking maybe I can do even better. That's the way I am -- I'm a hopeful guy, always looking to do better if I can.

Just reading the draw process, and if I understand correctly, one could have the most bonus points of anyone applying and still possibly not get drawn because the "random number generator" could assign a low number. That means even the bonus pass is totally random?
