Call Cole at CMC Skullworks. He doesn't show pics of dipped skulls on his site, but he was displaying some really nice ones at the Tucson SCI banquet last spring. CMC skullworks is a longtime sponsor here and does great work. Give him a call and ask about dipping. http://www.cmcskullworks.com/index.html

Jim White undergoing open heart surgery...please pray for him
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Prayer Requests
I will be working with the executor of his estate to make sure his products continue. I think it would be a nice tribute to Jim if his products live on. -
Good info everyone!

Do I have to go in draw for Arizona Coues Whitetail?
CouesWhitetail replied to aushunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You can find a lot of information on your chances to draw a tag for each hunt and unit in AGFD document called Hunt Arizona. It also contains lots of population data and hunt success rates. you can download that publication here: http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunt_arizona.shtml If you are planning to go on a guided hunt, then I would talk to your guide about which unit to put in for. -
Willie, No, I am just saying it's the same as last year. This was all debated last year before it changed to the current policy. This agreement was hammered out between the AGFD, the cattle company and the Navajo nation, who own the majority of the land. At that time the ranch manager provided all their financial info and costs to the AGFD in order to show the costs involved in maintaining access for hunters. This fee was an attempt to recoup some of those costs. You can do a google search for more info or just call AGFD and the Boquillas to learn more. Amanda

fyi, the ranch is expected to open again for the fall big game seasons. If you read their website they say they close access from mid-Dec to Aug, then open again for big game seasons. from AGFD: "The Boquillas Ranch will be open again for the 2014 fall season. Ranch personnel are meeting next week to review the Ranch Rules – we don’t anticipate any major changes. They are aware that the elk and antelope draw results will be available in the near future and intend to post any updated rules quickly." You can read more about ranch rules on their website: http://www.huntbigboranch.com/

Jim White undergoing open heart surgery...please pray for him
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Prayer Requests
It is with great sadness that I report to you all that Jim White passed away yesterday afternoon. This second heart surgery was just too much for his body to handle. They were able to replace the valve in his heart but his kidneys and liver just couldn't handle the strain. He had actually been suffering from heart problems for the last several years and his body was weakened due to this, even prior to the first surgery. His medical team managed the heart condition as long as they could with medication, but basically he was at end stage congestive heart failure and they realized that he had to do the surgery if he was to have any chance at all to live. He knew the odds were stacked against him going into the surgery. He had met with his pastor and his friends and family feel he is in a better place now. Please pray for the soul of Jim and for strength for his wife Jonnette. Unfortunately, this is the second husband she has lost to heart disease. I will keep you all posted as to when the service will be. His body is to be cremated and his best friend will scatter his ashes in places that were special to Jim, including some in Arizona and in Alaska at a site where he shot a grizzly bear. -
We often have guess the score contests and the official contests are listed in the Contest subforum. In addition we have lots of people that do their own informal contests and they post them in whatever subforum is appropriate (coues, mule deer, sheep, etc). Not sure we need a dedicated subforum for it? If you do a search for "guess the score" you should see lots of guess the score threads.

Congratulations and thanks for taking the youngster out with you! Sounds like a good day!

Congratulations! Great mounts and love the skull!

If you want to join an organization to help Coues Deer in AZ, you can join the Arizona Deer Association. They do projects for Coues and Mule Deer. The ADA used to be the AZ Mule Deer Association, but they changed their name to include Coues and Muleys.

Lance didn't post bogus info.....I read the link and thought the same as Lance did until AGFD pointed out the exemption clause. I am just happy to know that we can hunt in there.
-
I definitely enjoyed the excitement of your hunt! Thanks for sharing it with us! And very nice to see the mount done so nicely too!
-
Congratulations! and it's great you were able to take a wounded animal out of its misery.

Outstanding! Congratulations on the pics and the shirt looks great! Hope the backpack doesn't smell too bad after packing it out!

Guys, the area is open to lion hunters and no you don't have to stay on trails. If you have your legal lion hunting permits and you are actively hunting, then you are exempt from the closure. This information is directly from AGFD and they have cleared it with the USFS. There is an exemption clause in that closure and your lion hunting permit allows you to be exempt. If you read that link that Lance posted you can find the exemption paragraph. I posted it in another thread as well. If you want to try and go kill a lion you may spot and stalk or call. Maybe try on Sutherland Ridge.

I would love if some sportsmen could go in there and take a toll on the lions! The sheep obviously need our help!
