Thinking of trading My Jim White Head
CouesWhitetail replied to Adicted's topic in Optics and tripods
Both are great products! Personally I prefer the Jim White head to a pistol grip, but it's really a personal decision for everyone. Try both side by side and see how which you like best. -
Yes, it's a garter snake. Not sure exactly which species, but all garter snakes are non-venomous. Black-necked is the most common. Kind of depends where you were in the state. here is a great website for snake and amphibian info: http://www.reptilesofaz.org/snakes.html

Looking for a Vineyard or Winery Near Payson to ShowLow area--Crawfish Festival
CouesWhitetail replied to Adicted's topic in The Campfire
I can't think of his name or the name of his vineyard at the moment. But a couple years ago we were talking about potentially hosting a CW get together there. Maybe he will see this and post up. Or hopefully I can find his contact info in an old PM or email. -
Unbelievable buck and great life-size mount! I am sure Broc will enjoy that mount for years to come!

Thanks for taking the time to donate your tag. For those still wondering OE4A is Outdoor Experience For All, a great organization that takes a lot of kids with illnesses hunting. Now they will be taking wounded warriors on hunts too. http://www.outdoorexperienceforall.org/

Make sure you are logged into the forum, then click on your name, then in your profile look on left side for Posts. Click on Posts and it will pull up recent posts. Then when you are on the posts screen, look in upper right for "find content" and click on that. Then it should list all threads where you made a post. another option is if you know some keywords that were in the topic you are searching for, just use the search button. It's the magnifying glass symbol under your name in upper right corner when you are logged into forum. Use quotes around search phrases.

Buenos Aires Wildlife refuge has some good camping areas not far from the highway that is the boundary for 36a, b and c. Or lots of open camping areas on any of the roads leading into the mtns of 36c.

This years pear crop
CouesWhitetail replied to aznighthawk's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Not sure what unit you are considering, but the prickly pear fruit on some places on the San Carlos Reservation looked to be very abundant this week. that was at about 5500 feet elevation. -
Games on! Muscle memory is a wonderful thing.

Nice group! Good idea to keep it to 10 shots or less. You don't want to push too hard and undue the progress you have made. -

Went out looking for frogs after monsoon rain...here is what we found
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Non-hunting trip reports
So my husband and I like to go out after monsoon rains and look for frogs, toads and snakes that become active after the monsoon starts. The other day we had a HUGE storm in Globe. Friends with a rain gauge say we got 2.5 inches in that one storm! It was intense, with tons of lightning/thunder, hail and rain. That evening while grilling in the backyard we heard what sounded like frogs calling. We had not heard that before in our neighborhood. So we went out looking for them. Turns out there was a big temporary pool of water across the highway from us and it had lots of Couch's spadefoots calling and searching for mates. here is a video of the event. They are cute little toads. http://youtu.be/Q2Xp1hOOrXY For those that can't watch the video, here are some pics. We saw three species of toads that night, the Sonoran Desert Toad (also called Colorado River Toad), the Red-spotted Toad and the Couche's spadefoot toad. We even found one confused spadefoot trying to breed with the much larger Sonoran Desert Toad! Comical! Venison Sausage stuffed zucchini
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
I got the sausage recipe from azslim, who got it from a sausage recipe book I believe. I double the amount of fennel the recipe calls for because I like it in this sausage, but do it however tastes good to you. If you don't like fennel, just skip it and add more of the other spices. And I tend to add more oregano and garlic than the recipe calls for. You can use garlic powder if you don't have garlic cloves. And I don't use the fat called for, but use about 2 pounds pork butt (the fat comes from the marbling in the meat, not the big fatty end on the pork butt/shoulder) mixed with 2 pounds venison. Italian Sweet Fennel - is real good in spaghetti sauce. Good with deer, elk, and javelina. 3 lbs pork butt 3/4 lb pork fat 1/2 cup dry red wine 4 cloves garlic minced 2 tblspns fennel seeds 1 tblspn freshly ground black pepper 4 tspns kosher salt 1 tspn dried oregano 1/8 tspn gound allspice grind meat/fat together, mix in spices/water and knead together, then grind again. Cook small patty and decide if needs anything. -
Always pleasant to watch his shows and he seemed so "not hollywood" and more like a normal person, which I appreciated.
