Steven, what do you do for your 1 min of intense cardio between sets?

Cool, thanks for the info! I didn't know that but that should help some of the ladies who might be able to stay an extra day.

Hey All, Quite a while ago, sponsor Mark Healy of Healy Arms suggested to me that we make a section devoted to hunting fitness. This new subforum is designed to focus discussions on how to train for your hunt and nutrition. We also have forum members, like Steven Ward, who have recently become certified trainers who are eager to share some excellent knowledge about targeted exercise and nutrition. It's my hope that content in this subforum will help motivate and teach people how to train for their hunts so they can get the most out of their time in the outdoors. Do you have a favorite way you prepare for your hunts? What kind of nutrition do you use for keeping your energy up during your hunts? How to you get your arms ready for bow season? Share your tips and tricks so we can all learn. Thanks!

Red lenses in trail cameras are generally to correct colors when using the infrared led lights for night shots. The lens automatically falls into place when it's needed and retracts when it's not. If you get red tinted daytime photos, then it's likely the red lens is stuck down.

Thanks for all the info Steven....we can all use more training to hike those steep coues-filled hills!

Thanks for the info! Perfect post for our new Hunting Fitness section. -
We have tossed ideas around about a weight loss challenge or fitness challenge. But haven't had time to come up with the guidelines for how that would work. But if you have ideas on how to make it work, I am all ears. I will of course donate prizes.

Hey guys....just an fyi, this thread is old news from 7 years ago....I will go ahead and lock it so it doesn't keep getting reactivated every year. If you have any info about this case, you can PM Grong with it.

Quite the adventure! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your hunt with us! -
Wow! Congratulations and I truly enjoyed your humorous writing style! These lines had me laughing out loud: "Remind you I have never seen a bear during a hunt so I actually picked a spot we have seen a lot of deer at, knowing water is not too far, and the deer will keep me from getting bored" " As planned (words almost never heard when hunting) the bear steps out and I let one fly" "I throw 3 rocks at it and wait... I poke it in the neck with the barrel of the gun twice and wait... I find a long stick and poke its eye and wait... Okay I am now 80% sure it has expired!" "Did I mention bears are freaking heavy! " Thanks for sharing your hunt and I am glad you didn't get heat stroke....that is a real risk when carrying heavy loads in rough country in AZ summer heat!

Neat pics! good luck with the bear hunt.

There is truth to what CouesnSheep is saying. Some people get hung up on cutting the meat up like a professional butcher. You don't have to make perfect cuts to get great meat. Just keep it as clean as you can and get it cooled down ASAP. Frozen water bottles/gatorade bottles work great to cool meat without letting ice melt and leaving the meat soaking in water in a cooler. Or put ice in ziplock bags so when it melts your meat wont get wet. I would love to come help you if you get one down, but I would be hours away from you and it's better to get it processed ASAP. I have complete faith you will do a great job even if you are all by yourself.

I think everyone should use hearing protection whenever they can. With coues hunting, you generally have plenty of time to put in ear plugs. I used to not worry about it, but I wised up and at one of the hunting shows years ago I had some custom formed ear plugs made for me. They just stay in my pack until I need them. I have seen other people use those orange ones that just stay around your neck so they are ready at a moments notice. Mine have a string connecting them so I can have them around my neck and ready if need be. For turkey hunting, I use Walker's Game ear muffs. That way I can hear the turkeys coming, but as soon as I shoot, then muffs silence the sound and protect your hearing. Those have worked great. You can see that I wore them on my turkey hunt in Mexico. Look at 4:34 minutes or so you can see me taking them off.

Here is a link to the one BMart mentioned....it's a great tripod. Personally I prefer the twist lock legs to the flip locks. I have had the flip locks break on other tripods. http://store.coueswhitetail.com/promaster-xc325c-tripod/
