I have that call and it works great. But I also think most any predator call will work also. I called in several javelina with it on several different occassions. Make sure you keep blowing on it, the javies seem to stop coming when you stop screaming on it. The hard thing is getting ready for a shot while calling. You don't want the call getting caught when you release your bow string. Amanda

lion & deer trail cam pics?
CouesWhitetail replied to GRONG's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I think the point is that just under the red dashed lines you can see the colors are different. They are slightly darker than the rest of the photo. Which means that box with the lion was cut and pasted into that part of the photo. In addition, what are the odds that you would get a photo of a lion following a deer and a lion following an elk on the same camera. What he got, I believe was a lion photo, a deer photo and an elk photo and he just cut and pasted the lion into the elk and deer photos. It's simple to do in Photoshop. Amanda -
lion & deer trail cam pics?
CouesWhitetail replied to GRONG's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I am pretty sure that pic is a blend of two photos like you guys mentioned. It looks pretty unreal. The lion doesn't even look like it's looking at that deer and he has no intensity in him like a stalking lion would. Amanda -
Yes, the does will cycle again. Cycles are generally 26 days long. You can read more about it in the Coues Deer Life Stages section on this website. Amanda

Hey, Thought you guys might want to check out this auction item. One day left on bidding and seems to have no reserve. Current bid only 316 bucks! They look well used, but seems like a heck of a deal. Used Zeiss 10x40 And here is one that seems to be in much better condition and yet still reasonably priced: Zeiss 10x40 Amanda

Deer,Predators,and Drought
CouesWhitetail replied to Manamal's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
CHD, The sustaining membership gives you the special feeling of contributing to AZ's deer herds at a sustaining level You also get a mention in the newsletter. And we may start putting names up on the website to add more recognition to them. The ADA really just breaks even with a regular membership. So when you want to contribute more money to help AZ deer herds, go with the sustaining or life membership. And if you really are serious about setting up another forum you can email me about it. Dan, If you use the IMG button rather than the Http button, the images will show up and people won't have to click on the link to see the photos. Just click on the IMG button and paste in the link. Here they are using that IMG button: (check out the mass on that buck!!!!)

Glad you had a great hunt. And glad this site and Jeff helped make you successful! Thanks for sharing all the details! I enjoyed hearing about all the other wildlife you saw along the way. Congrats! Amanda

Deer,Predators,and Drought
CouesWhitetail replied to Manamal's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
CHD, Glad to hear you are joining the ADA. And anyone else who wants to join or attend a meeting, just go to the ADA website for more info. As far as linking to MM.com.....it was agreed by the board to link to both. We felt that it would be better to link to active forums rather than trying to create another forum. You don't have to join the MM forum to join and help the ADA. The board felt that those who wanted to talk about Muleys would be more interested in going to MonsterMulies.com forum and those who wanted to talk about Coues Deer would come here. Remember Allen Taylor, who is very active with the ADA is the moderator over at MM.com. You can talk to him about content issues on that forum. Chris, do you have any other forum you would suggest for muley hunters to go to? If you do, let me know. Amanda -
The clock is set individually for each person, since everyone can be in different time zones. Here is a link to a post where I tell how to set your clock: Time/Date stamp info Also, if you want to know what posts are new since your last visit, all you have to do is click on "View New Posts" in the upper right corner of the forum after you have logged in. That works fine as long as you have been gone from the board at least 2 hrs. Let me know if you have any other questions. Amanda

Jim Parker got these bear photos and asked me to post them. He saw this bear while deer hunting in unit 21.

San Carlos is a great place to hunt. I have hunted A, B, and C and really you can get a large buck in any unit. Personally I think I prefer unit B because it lends itself to glassing a bit more than the other units. You stand a real good chance of getting a 90+ buck on an SC tag. You can read some of the hunt stats from San Carlos in the "Where to Hunt" section of this website. Here is the link to the San Carlos page I put together some comprehensive stats when I was the biologist out there. We gave that info out to hunters to help them decide on whether to buy a tag and which unit to hunt. That is the older data though (95-99) and there is a link on that info page for it. Things don't change much though. Good weather years you have a better chance at a big buck. I also have posted some stats from the early 2000's from another biologist. Hope that helps! Amanda

GMM, Where did you get your rest? What's it called? I shoot with a whisker biscuit but saw a drop away like you are describing at an archery shop in Tucson. But it was not commercially made. Just some guy who came up with the design and made a few. I haven't had any trouble with the biscuit. I love the way it keeps my arrows from making any noise on a stalk. I think you loose some speed on the arrow since it's in contact with it after the release, but for me the tradeoff is fine since I can hunt more effectively with it. But a rest like the one you are using GMM would offer the best of both worlds. Amanda

Hey Dan, Want me to post the shed photo in the San Carlos section? And what about your cousin's buck? It's helpful if you send the photos to me first and then I can post them in the photogallery and then you can link to that here so they show up in your post. It saves on space on the server that way and it gets them saved in a place where more people will see them over the long haul. Thanks for your pics and posts! Amanda

Some cool bear pics
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Yeah, he is awesome. Cinnamon bears are so cool looking. And it looks like he's too big to get up and move around. I think maybe the color on his feet and nose is more red because of sunrise or sunset, not sure though. Maybe Jim will come tell us. Amanda -
Looking for a good taxidermist
CouesWhitetail replied to The Chase's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Weller's Wildlife Studio in Tucson is also excellent. And they just signed on to be a sponsor on this website. So please, give that some consideration when looking for a taxidermist. I have known the owners of Weller's for many years and they really do some nice work. And they have excellent turnaround time, avg is 6 months. Check out their website: Weller's Wildlife Studio Amanda Here are some photos of Coues deer they have mounted: -

I think the hunt story page didn't post quite right yesterday. So I reloaded it and the Jack Luffy story is one of the last one's listed on the hunt story page. You should be able to see it now. If not, here is a direct link to the story: Jack Luffy hunt story And thanks for the Bday wishes!!! Amanda

Happy belated birthday C.W..com
CouesWhitetail replied to Rembrant's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks everyone. And thanks for letting me know how much you like the site. I am really glad the site has grown so much and that it is useful to people. For those of you that are new to the site, don't forget that this forum is just part of a larger site. The main CW.com webpage has links to the main photogalleries and lots of info on biology and hunting tactics and much more. CouesWhitetail.com main page This site has definitely helped me meet some great people! I have been able to stay over at Ernesto's house when I happened to be passing through Yuma, been in the field with RedRabbit huntin elk, and I have met several of you all at various places all over the state just because you saw the sticker on the back of my Jeep. Heck I even bumped into some CW.com regulars at a New Year's eve party the other night!! And I have gotten to meet lots of you guys by scoring your deer and other trophies - way too many to list here. In fact, tomorrow I head to Douglas to score some deer for a hunt club down there because one of it's members knew me through this site and I had scored some of his other deer. So if anyone is down in Douglas Tues or Wed this week, send me an email and maybe we can meet up. Thanks to all you guys who share your pictures, hunt stories and tactics. Without the new content you guys send me, this site wouldn't have grown as much or be nearly as useful or interesting! And many thanks to those who have sent in donations, paid for advertising, or bought things through this site. That money helps maintain and improve this site. Amanda -
email me the photos along with your name and mention this posting so I can get it in the right place. Thanks. Amanda
