I was just checking the weather report and they said Tucson airport has gotten 2.14 inches of rain since midnight. They said it was a daily record too! Amanda

I would love to post the video. What format is it in? miniDV? VHS? hi-8? I have a converter than can take almost any format and make a digital file. So if you can get me a copy of the tape, I can get it posted. I keep hoping someone will send in some good video and we can make a video clip section to the website. Amanda -
deercaine or blackmagic
CouesWhitetail replied to m1280's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well, are you telling me that black magic doesn't work? i just ordered two bags of it yesterday to use with my new trail camera. Amanda -
Maybe I better re-think going with you to NM, Scott!! I don't think I could run 4.5 miles cross country just to see what's over there and then run back. That's pretty impressive. Amanda

What a mess. Kinda creeps me out that she was here in Globe. That express stop is where I gas up all the time! -
Do you have some money burning a hole?
CouesWhitetail replied to BASS's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Well, I had an extra 20 mins or so when I went to the valley tonight for the ADA board meeting, so I was able to stop by. It does look pretty much the same as the one in the north side of town. I looked through the backpacks and didn't see the eberlestock "just one" pack. They had one by them called the gunslinger. Not sure how different the two are. I also looked for the moultrie digital game cam and didn't see it. The cheapest digital cam they had I think was 129 bucks. They had some 35mm ones for like $79 if I remember right. I didn't have enough time to really shop, but it is great to have so much selection so much closer to me. I will be happy to go back when I have more time. Amanda -

I am headed to mesa tonight, but might not have time to visit the store. I knew about the opening and it's been killing me not to be able to make it work out! Some people have been getting $10 off coupons in the mail for the mesa store. I didn't, but my husband found some in the trash at the Post Office. Keep your eyes out, some people just toss them. You can use one per customer per visit. Amanda -
Does anyone think Amanda will go for this?
CouesWhitetail replied to BASS's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Yes, we can probably offer two to three different colors. I tend to like white or some other light color. Dark color tshirts seem too hot for me. the more options we have, the more expensive it is to carry an inventory and get them made. So let's limit it as much as we can. I suppose color choice will be affected by what the final design is. Amanda -

a Rambo-like Lark with a deer over his shoulders and in a thong..... now there is an image!!! Rembrant says he is interested in doing a drawing. I agree that the photos aren't a great way to go and that's why I haven't done them yet. A drawing will look better and last longer. Rembrant says he can take any image we give him and make a drawing out of it. So I will look for something that will work. My plan with the stickers was to make some of each of the logos and let you guys choose the one you want for your trucks/cars. I have one of the square ones on my jeep and my husbands truck. There were problems making the stickers look like they do on the computer. The third logo would be easier and the sign shop here in globe thinks they can do it if we go with all white. I think it would look pretty good that way. Please continue giving input on what you want in a shirt or other item. The guy that I am trying to get to do some low profile hats also has lots of camo stuff (shirts, jackets, pillows) that we could put a logo on. Or if there is anyone else here that has a contact for this kind of work, let me know. Amanda -

Before we jump into cafepress.com, I would want to know what kind of things you guys want. If it's primarily tshirts and hats, we can do that without cafepress. I would much prefer to give our business to someone associated with this website. The hats were made by a friend of someone who frequents this site. And I know someone here in globe that does tshirts. So I would much rather give local, hunter friendly businesses the chance to do the work rather than a more anonymous site like cafepress. One of the things that has kept me from making tshirts for the site is that I haven't come up with a good back design. I have been thinking of using some of Joe Cerreta's photos, but I am not sure how good they would look on a shirt. I was actually thinking of getting some prototypes made this Sept. when my time frees up more. I submitted one of the logos below to another hat maker (who is a board member of the ADA, again trying to use local, pro-hunting businesses) earlier this summer to try and get low profile hats made, but I haven't seen the prototype yet. For the fronts of the shirts or whatever, we can use the logos that have already been designed and that I have been using. Here are the two logos that I have been using. Bill Quimby graciously created them quite awhile ago for me. It's what I put on the hats we had made. He also created this one below here for me, which I didn't like as much, but some of you might. It has a nice crisp look that might make it better for a truck window sticker, perhaps done in all white. Which do you like best? I really like how he incorporated the ppear into the one, it captures a bit of the uniqueness of the coues deer. And I like other features of the other two also. Anyway, think about what it is that you would actually want and use and let's see if we can get something made. mugs? tshirts? hats? keychains? Here are some of the photos I thought would be good on the back or front of a tshirt. Or maybe we can get Rembrant to draw something for the back. Amanda -

Runoff from the fire out toward Superior has started to turn the waterfalls and creekbeds black. Check out these photos, one is from the Silver King wash at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum (it's a normally dry wash). And the others are photos of the waterfall that cascades down in the canyon between Globe/Miami and Superior. Pretty amazing looking! Amanda

So, you think you're tough???
CouesWhitetail replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Bret, I think I know that powerline trail you are talking about. That is some very rough country indeed. I just finished reading a book called "Touching the Void" by Joe Simpson. He's a mountain climber who had a series of tragic accidents while coming down a mountain. He was left for dead by his partner (who thought it was impossible for someone to survive the fall into that crevasse). But he survived and crawled all the way back to camp. He heard voices too, just like the old cowboy and he ended up losing 40% of his body weight in just a few days. This story was made into a movie, maybe some of you saw it. I enjoy reading those adventure books. There are some by Jon Krakuer that are awesome too. Amanda -
Second shot, You don't really have to do anything to preserve it, other than keep it out of the sun. If it's already cleaned (no meat or flesh on it), and you keep it out of the sun it will last as long or longer than you do . However, if you want to clean it up a bit, soak it in hydrogren peroxide overnight. You can buy the 3% Hyd. Per. at any drugstore. Cover the whole skull and let it soak. It will whiten it up some. Don't soak it in bleach, bleach will deteriorate the bone. If some of the teeth are loose you can use superglue to put them back in. I tend to spray mine with clear enamel after I clean them, but that's just because it makes them look nice and it makes it easier to dust them off. You can buy a can of spray enamel at any hardware store. There is a website for taxidermy questions that I used quite a bit when I was learning to clean skulls and tan skins and such. It's called Taxidermy.net and is a great forum for finding info on anything related to taxidermy. Here is a link to that site: Taxidermy.net forums Make sure you search the archives for info before posting a new question there. There is a ton of valuable info in the archives. Amanda

Good idea. If we get enough responses I will go ahead and pin the topic so it stays up and available. I am a wildlife biologist, primarily conducting field surveys for a variety of wildlife (game and nongame species), and I do some web design work. Amanda

anyone gonna be carying new gear this year?
CouesWhitetail replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have an old Eureka tent that I use car camping. The tent has been great, but it's getting quite old (as is its owner...). I have had it since grad school, close to 20 years. The fly is getting strectched out and isn't quite as waterproof as it used to be. Unfortunately I think I will have to get a new one or maybe eureka will send me a new fly. The zipper on the front door stopped working too and now we use big binder clips to hold it shut So have you guys taken your velbon efl's out yet? Like them? Giladad1....dang that's a lot of high dollar equipment! You better get a big buck and you better enter our big buck contest so you can get your name plastered all over the internet whe you win Amanda -

I just ordered a new backpack tent and down sleeping bag. Got a Big Agnes Sarvis 2 person SL tent. It weighs about 4 pounds, which is about 1/3 of the weight of the 3 tarps I have been using this summer to keep me dry in the monsoon rains. Sarvis tent at Campsaver.com There are some lighter tents out there, but most are not freestanding and this one has some extra room that the others don't have. The down bag I ordered is rated to 0 degrees (it was 16 degrees on my last dec coues hunt). It weighs less than 3 lbs, which is much nicer than the two 4-pound bags I carry with me hunting now (I put one bag inside the other)! And it stuffs down really small. And it has a neat elastic sewn into it, so it hugs you and yet is flexible (you can sit up cross legged in it if you want). mont-bell down super stretch hugger bag I found great deals on these items from Campsaver.com, you might want to check them out if you are looking for things. Got a $50 tent footprint for free with the order of the tent and it was a cheaper price than I could find elsewhere, plus free shipping. Gotta love it. Anyone else use a backpack tent or warm bag they love? Amanda -
Great stories! Thanks for sharing them. I would love to see a video of that!!! Amanda

Ernesto, I am not sure exactly what brought this on, but I don't think anyone here is offended by you. I think there was a thread where someone jokingly mentioned being offended by your christian themes, but I think it was a joke and he said that. Am I missing something here? Seems to me you are one of the most useful and inoffensive person on this site. Amanda

Great find! Have you gotten him on a trail cam yet this year? Amanda

Sorry for the downtime on the forum. There was a problem with the SQL database. Only took a simple command to repair it, but had to get that command from tech support. Amanda -
Got my tag in the mail today. Sure feels better to have it in hand!!! I have a safe that has been in the family for years, and now my dad gave it to me. That's where I put my tags now , along with other valuables. The thing is fireproof and large enough that noone will be walking away with it if they break in. Amanda

Thanks for the suggestion. It would take a huge amount of work to go back through the photos and file them by unit. I will give it some thought though. Anyone else think that would be worthwhile? I actually try and mix up the photos from the units (not placing lots of photos from the same unit on the same page) so I don't draw too much attention to one unit or another. But maybe it is an unfounded worry. And of course it would be interesting to look at the bucks by unit. Remember there is a search function on the middle of the main page, just above the what's new table. You can enter a unit number or hunter name or whatever in there and the results get placed right below the area where you enter the search. I don't know how many of you use that function, but it works pretty well. If you want to see all the unit 36 bucks, just type in 36 and it should list all the pages on the site that unit 36 is mentioned on. After you type in the search and hit the search button, you will have to scroll back down to see the results. I agree the rifle section has gotten rather overgrown and I have messed around with different ways to organize it, but haven't found one I like yet. I know some people don't realize they can use the wheel on their mouse to scroll through all the pages that are in that section. If you don't, then you might only see the first 30 pages in the menu.
