Bachelor Party!!!
CouesWhitetail replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Good luck Scottyboy! Hope you make it home in one piece! And congratulations on your engagement! Amanda -
The main guide Javier is a good guy. The place I hunted is his father's ranch. They have a lot of deer there and some very nice bucks. Have you spoken with Javier directly yet? He speaks english fairly well and it's a good idea to talk with him and tell him what you are expecting for your hunt. Some places on the ranch have good bucks, but limited glassing. Yet you can hunt them by moving slowly through the area. But if you don't like hunting that way, you can tell Javier you want to be in more open areas where you can glass. You can also choose to spend your whole day out in the field or come back to the ranch to have lunch and relax a little. I suggest if you go that you aim for the last week of January since the rut seems to peak around then for that area. Javier has some other ranches that sound good, but that I haven't been to. You can email me directly if you have more questions about Mexafari. Oh and Javier is donating a Coues hunt to the AZ Deer Assoc auction April 8. And he will be at the banquet/auction, so if you are planning to go you could meet him there and talk about your hunt. Amanda

Wow, great pics, it's really nice to see how it looks around the state. Here in Globe we got 9-10 inches and the power was out for like a day and a half. Some people are still without power. My husband got a snow day yesterday since the roads were closed and so we got to spend the day in the snow and huddling by the fire to keep warm since we had no power! Our power came back on around 9 pm last night and it's still on today, although not real stable yet. In this excellent storm we got, I was finally able to test out my rain gear that I bought for hunting. I took the dogs for a walk in the blizzard and slush on Sat and then yesterday went out and hiked around and rolled in the snow trying to soak my rain gear. I am glad to say everything was completely waterproof! We usually get small amount of snow in Globe at least 1 or 2 times a year and we usually have snow in the Pinal mtns most of the winter. This year we had no snow in the mtns until this last storm. Now we have snow everywhere! My neighbor said that sometime in the 70's they got 18 inches! This was only 1/2 that, but it still is alot for Globe! Here are some more pics: My backyard: Front yard The hog mountains which are just east of us and on the San Carlos Res. (they don't get snow nearly as often as the Pinals) Some late evening snow at Beshbagowah Archaeological Park in Globe. Some neat ancient indian ruins that I have not seen in snow before! and a few pics of my "snowsuit" in the snow (along with Maura and my huntin' buddy Molly)!

I have asked around and haven't found anyone who can figure out why the NRA did what they did. Let us know what you find out SunDevil. Amanda

FYI - I am sending an email out to everyone in the forum about the ADA deer survey. So don't get nervous if you get an email from me and the forum! It's the first time I have tried emailing everyone in the forum. I hope it works ok! Amanda

I don't expect any mass email problems. But everyone should always keep their virus protection software updated. The real problem is I don't know how they got my password, so I don't know how exactly to prevent this in the future. The attack seems to have stopped after I changed my password, so hopefully it will be ok. As far as the "google" you see visiting the forum.... that is a "spider" sent out by the search engine to find content on the web. It's harmless and very useful. It updates info from the forum into their database so when people search for info on coues deer the data is there. Other search engines send "spiders" as well, like Ask Jeeves, and Yahoo. Amanda

G&F Deer survey coming out soon
CouesWhitetail replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I tend to agree with you DesertBull. But we all know people who do indeed hunt both species, even if the majority of hunters pick one species over the other. We can sort the results later and look at how whitetail hunters vs mule deer hunters voted. I can't give out results, but I will say (as I have said all along) that you should get as many whitetail hunters as possible to vote!! Amanda -

G&F Deer survey coming out soon
CouesWhitetail replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The Game and Fish Department does support this survey. They didn't have it up sooner on their website for some technical technical reasons. The survey link is now up on their website and they emailed 44,000 hunters last night with the link to azdeer.org to take the survey. We received about 900 responses overnight! Pretty impressive. But , remember, it's very important to keep spreading the word to your friends about this survey. We need lots of hunters to take this survey and if you feel strongly about the issues, please make sure you tell everyone you know about it and also show up for the April 22 commission meeting. In addition if anyone is in Tucson this Friday, the AGFD commission has added this issue to their agenda. Leonard Ordway will be presenting the results from AGFD public meetings held throughout the state and also he will be discussing this deer survey. The commission isn't going to take action on this item, but will take public comment. So anyone who can go, should go to the meeting this Friday. It will be held at RiverPark Inn, 350 S. Freeway Rd, Tucson. Amanda -
I will look into the nonprofit thing. I think if I did that I would have to have a board of directors and it might be a lot more work than it is now. But maybe I am wrong about that. As far as having the raffle in Mexico. It might work. Again, it just adds more difficulty to it all and might not even work around the laws. Amanda

Marines not supported

you can visit sites on the internet to find out if things are a hoax or not. Here is a link to one of those sites: http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/HoaxBustersHome.html And I did a quick seach and found the marine starbucks letter listed as one of the hoaxes. Here is the info on that site (including an apology from the author of the first email): The following letter was received from Starbucks. It explains their giving program and includes a letter from the writer of the original letter that turned into the rumor. January 11, 2005 Starbucks has the deepest respect and admiration for U.S. military personnel. We are extremely grateful to the men and women who serve stateside and overseas. We sincerely respect that they are willing to risk their lives. Starbucks employs approximately 80 U.S. partners (employees) who serve in the military and are currently on active duty. In support of their efforts, Starbucks provides a military allowance to make up the difference between their military pay and their pay level at Starbucks before they went on leave. The partner can continue health coverage, and family health coverage, if enrolled, for up to 18 months. Additionally, partners are guaranteed a position upon return from active duty, except in rare circumstances, as permitted under the Federal Military Leave Laws. Starbucks, our customers, and our partners believe that it is critically important to support U.S. men and women serving their country in times of conflict. Starbucks and its partners have consistently demonstrated their support of military personnel in a number of ways. Each week Starbucks partners receive one free pound of coffee. On an individual, grass roots level, many partners in the U. S. have collected their free coffee and shipped numerous pounds of Starbucks coffee overseas. As an example of this generosity, partners in our Atascadero, California store sent their personal weekly allotment of coffee to troops in Afghanistan so they would be able to enjoy a little taste of home. Additionally, our customer relations department in Seattle donated hundreds of pounds of coffee to the sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier. These are just two of the many examples of our partners supporting the American troops. We are humbled that the troops request our coffee. We recognize and appreciate the very personal connection customers have with us and how they might miss their Starbucks Experience while serving overseas. A comprehensive list of our support of military personnel follows the text of this statement. To enhance our U.S. partners' outstanding grassroots efforts in support of the U.S. military troops, Starbucks is honored and pleased to extend our relationship with the American Red Cross in order to provide more coffee to relief efforts during times of conflict. In November 2004, Starbucks donated 50,000 lbs of coffee to the American Red Cross for distribution to those troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait. The Company is making this contribution through the American Red Cross as part of its long-term, ongoing commitment to share the comfort of coffee during times of crisis, such as during the Florida hurricanes in summer 2004. Starbucks has a long history of contributing product, time and funding to a wide variety of local, national and international non-profit organizations. Through several partner programs, such as Make Your Mark and Choose to Give, the Company supports the efforts of its partners who give their time through matching monetary donations based on the number of hours contributed, primarily to nonprofit organizations that are designated as public charities under Section 501© (3) of the IRS Code. To further demonstrate Starbucks support of military personnel, Starbucks recently responded to an e-mail circulating on the internet that contained misinformation about Starbucks. The Company contacted its author, a Marine Sergeant, who subsequently sent an e-mail to his original distribution list correcting his mistake, the text of which is: "Dear Readers, Almost 5 months ago I sent an e-mail to you my faithful friends. I did a wrong thing that needs to be cleared up. I heard by word of mouth about how Starbucks said they didn't support the war and all. I was having enough of that kind of talk and didn't do my research properly like I should have. This is not true. Starbucks supports men and women in uniform. They have personally contacted me and I have been sent many copies of their company's policy on this issue. So I apologize for this quick and wrong letter that I sent out to you. Now I ask that you all pass this email around to everyone you passed the last one to. Thank you very much for understanding about this. Howard C. Wright Sgt USMC 1st Force Rcon Co 1st Plt PLT RTO -

I would suggest you confirm that info with starbucks. Sometimes there are a lot of emails that go around with not quite so accurate info in them. Send a letter to starbucks and see if they say what their policy is. Amanda -
G&F Deer survey coming out soon
CouesWhitetail replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Lark, I don't think they are proposing changes to the any antlered seasons. But I guess we should have thought to allow people to choose any antlered for what they primarily apply for. Amanda -

G&F Deer survey coming out soon
CouesWhitetail replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Guys, The view results link was taken down after the ADA board decided that the some people might view it as biasing the results of the survey. We don't want the survey to be vulnerable to criticism for that, so we decided it was best to just wait until after the survey is done to show results. Amanda -
I have no idea how it happened. But in order to stop it I had to ban myself as an administrator and change my password. Tech support has given me no info as to how this could have happened, just that nothing on the internet is bulletproof. I am working on trying to get back the posts that were deleted. Whoever hijacked the site came in and suspended the moderators and then started deleting forum topics. Since I don't know how it happened, I don't really know how to prevent other than following standard security measures. Amanda

G&F Deer survey coming out soon
CouesWhitetail replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Yes, it is really surprising to me how many people are voting to shorten the Dec archery AND rifle seasons. I didn't expect so many. I expected everyone would vote no on that, but it's not running 90% no like the other choices. Not sure what is going on there. Amanda -
The thread disappeared only because someone hijacked the forum for awhile. That's why all the topics are missing in several other categories like the "giveaways" and "optics and other gear" topics. However, the raffle for the Coues hunt in Mexico was cancelled due to gambling laws in the US. I had posted that we cancelled it a few days ago and refunded the money. Sorry for the bad news. But we have to be a nonprofit to do a raffle. Amanda

Congratulations on a very successful hunt! And it sure is nice to hear a hunter speak well of a AGFD wildlife manager. They are hardworking folks! Amanda
