    AZGFD Hunt Recommendations

Ok, here I finally found what I think he is referring to. from the meeting minutes: "The only substantial public input received regarding elk hunts since the last public guideline and recommendation process was that the early general bull hunts were scheduled too late to take full advantage of prime rutting behavior or bugling activity . As such, the proposed package deviates from Commission approved guidelines by adjusting the early bull hunts (general, archery and muzzleloader) one week earlier to address public desire relative to the prime elk rut hunt opportunities ." Dick, I think you meant to say your meeting is on the 17th, not the 16th, right? It seems both meetings are on the 17th and Leonard will have to figure out how he wants to handle that. I assume Brian will go to one and Leonard the other, but that's up to them. here are the minutes from Dec 2006, as posted on the AGFD website. Maybe you guys can find reference to the archery deer/elk overlap? The only thing I saw in briefly looking through it was Leonard saying he would fix and overlap in some other elk seasons. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/inside_azgfd/min...mMtgMinutes.pdf Amanda

    New AZ arch deer dates!

Dick, Just a clarification before things get too confused. The ADA meeting is on the 17th (Tues) not the 16th. I think you meant to write that both the Desert Christian archers and the ADA meeting are on Tues the 17th. Leonard was under the impression that the DCA meeting was the 19th, but apparently it's the 17th. Amanda

Just got confirmation from Leonard that he will be attending the AZ Deer Association board meeting on Tuesday the 17th. I think the meeting will start at 6:30 pm and be held at the Univ. of Phoenix. I will post the room number and directions when I get them. The ADA board meetings are open to the public and this might be a good opportunity for any of you guys to come and ask Leonard your questions directly. (note: he said he will be attending the Desert Christian archers meeting on thurs the 19th) Amanda

Guys....please keep the discussion civil here. Personal attacks and rude language really isn't helpful. If you want AGFD to come here and discuss this, I suggest just listing your concerns in way that can be addressed. Amanda

what does your trophy room contain?

Nice computer screen DDS! And looks like you have some of Mike Fabritz's prints too! Nice! Great thread guys. I like that triple pedestal of yours Scottyboy. Way cool. I got to do some radio telemetry work on a chamois project in Switzerland once. Neat animals. Really cool mount of that monkey too. I sure thought you would have a lot more given all your trophy photos, but I guess they are in the garage! Bummer! And those are great wall colors to highlight your trophies Coosefan! I also love the european mounts you guys have Elkhunter and Bowhunter4life. I think I am going to keep my Mexico bucks that way. Amanda
  18. Hi Guys, The annual AZ Deer Association fundraising banquet is going to be held on April 7 at the Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale. I purchased a CouesWhitetail.com table, but have pretty much filled it already. If you guys have another 10 people who want to go from here, we can have a 2nd CouesWhitetail.com table. Tables of 10 cost $900 but I usually subsidize them by a few hundred bucks. People pay $60 for the tickets and I cover the rest. Corporate tables include $200 of raffle tickets and a commerative gift (usually a very nice knife). I give out the raffle tix to those at the table and give the knife away as a prize for a contest here on CW.com. So if you are interested in going to the banquet, let me know by posting here and we will see if we can get another 10 people to fill another table. The banquets are always fun and a great way to get some gear or hunts and help a non-profit group raise money for wildlife. If you want more info on the banquet or want to just order your own tickets here is the link: http://www.azdeer.org/2007_banquet.htm Amanda

    Mills Ridge Water Catchment

Just a reminder that this work project is coming up this weekend! Anyone going? It's a great time of year to get out and camp near Roosevelt lake. The ADA is providing a very nice steak dinner SAT night. This is a good project, so come on out if you can! See link below for more info. http://www.azdeer.org/Projects/mill%20ridge%20project.pdf

I don't know if it is the same buck or not. I didn't see either very well. I believe the artist is Jay Cox. maybe someone here knows him and can ask if it's the same buck or not? Amanda

    Favorite Trophy Photos

Wow, you guys are posting some amazing animals! FYI - I posted pics of Jeremy's archery buck in the ADA banquet thread. I had a real hard time letting go of Jeremy's buck once I held it! It's amazing!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing it Jeremy! Maybe he could post a field photo of it? The photo I got of it doesn't show a side view at all. Amanda

    Arizona Deer Association Banquet

And here are a few pics from around the banquet hall..... A few big bucks in the ADA trophy display that was there: And here is the original pastel donated by Mike Fabritz (aka Rembrant). THANKS Mike! I forgot what it sold for but it was somewhere around $1800 (correct me if I am wrong Mike). It's a gorgeous pastel drawing. Just beautiful and framed in an original frame inlayed with prickly pear cactus skeleton. Great work Mike! Some other scenes around the banquet: It was a great evening and we had about 525 people there and raised a lot of money for wildlife projects. I think the special commissioner's Coues tag sold for about $24,000! (someone correct me if I am remembering wrong. I was running around all night so I didn't keep close track of a lot of things!) Arizona Deer Association Banquet

You are very welcome Christian! Thanks to everyone who came, it was a fun evening! We had two tables and one table seemed to not have any luck winning and the other table won a couple guns and maybe some more stuff I didn't see. It sure was great meeting some new people and also getting to know others of you a little better. I had a great time and loved seeing some of the bucks brought in! Desertsheep brought a 130 buck one his clients got in Mexico and it was awesome! That buck was extremely massive and the weight felt really heavy when you held it. Just a monster of a buck. here is a pic: Another buck that I absolutely loved was brought in by Jeremy Ulmer. He got this buck with his bow and it's a 125 inch monster with 5 inch bases and a 16 inch inside spread! He took the buck in Dec 2006 from a treestand after waiting for just the right shot while the buck was near him for 30 mins! Can you imagine the adrenaline??? wow.... Jeremy is holding that buck on the right in this photo. You can't imagine just how heavy this rack is. It actually weighs more than that 130 buck Jason brought in. And jeremy brought in some sheds he has found (not from the archery buck he took). Oh my!!! these things are amazing! (these were previously posted in the forum in the "Who needs Mexico" thread). Jeremy found these in 2005. These sheds would be from roughly a 128 inch buck if you gave him a 12 inch spread! and here is a droptine shed which if you doubled it would be about a 115 inch buck. Jeremy found this one in 2006. Thanks to Jeremy and Jason for bringing in those bucks! I was drooling! And thanks to Peloncillo for bringing in his awesome bucks also (but I have posted those pics previously). And also my friend Beth brought her 119 buck in from mexico. Amanda
