    Where's the pictures???

I am talking to tech support for the forum to see if they can figure it out. I am guessing it's something simple related to the new computer. Do you have another computer you can access the forum from? If you do, try that and log in and see if you can see pics. Then we know it's the laptop and not your user acct here. Amanda

    Where's the pictures???

When did you start having this problem? Ever since you joined the forum or more recently? Amanda
  3. Mark, While I agree it seems pointless to give input at these meetings I don't see how not giving input helps either? If you have an opinion about the regulations and AGFD has a venue for receiving that input, then I say let's use it. Will it make a difference??? I doubt it. I think we all see the writing on the wall....but I know for sure that giving no input will get no results. So what are the options? Amanda

    Couple of Questions..

I too love the Zeiss classic 10x's. However, I mainly use my newer Swaro 15x56 on a tripod for coues hunting. Lately I have only been hunting with one pair of binos, the swaro 15x. Can you freehand them? yes, but like everyone has said it's not ideal. But the question I put to you, is how much free hand glassing do you think you will do? If you are mostly going to use a tripod, then you don't to worry so much about freehand. Also, if you use a walking stick while hunting, you can rest your binos on that or buy a monopod to carry with you. Then you can always use them without a problem. I carry my swaro 15s slung diagonally across my shoulder so they are available but don't hang on my chest and there is not so much weight on the back of my neck, but instead it's on the side and my shoulder. So if you hate the idea of carrying two binos, then you can get away with just the 15x's if you are mostly going to sit and glass on a tripod. If you expect to be working thicker country where you will freehand a lot (and you aren't carrying a hiking stick or monopod), I would stick with your zeiss classics or those 15x45's that Allen recommended. Those are great, just not as bright as the 15x56s due to smaller lens size. When you are ready to buy, check with Doug at Cameraland. He is a supporter of this website and offers some excellent deals. Amanda

    Where's the pictures???

Not sure what is going on with you not being able to view photos. But here is something to check. look for the My Controls text link in the upper middle of the screen under the CouesWhitetail.com banner. Click on that link and then look on the left hand side of the page and go down under Options to a link called Board Settings. Click on that and look for a question that says something like " Do you wish to view images in other peoples posts?" make sure that the answer is yes. Then look on the bottom of the page for a "save my account options" button and click that to save changes. I doubt this is your problem because the default is "yes" and I don't think you would have changed it. But check it and make sure. Amanda

    a mountain adventure!!

Wow! Congrats Scotty and thanks for the report and pics. Glad we didn't lose you in one of those crevasses! Amanda
  10. I am real sorry I can't be there! My husband and I were looking forward to it. I figured if you had enough people show up you could some kind of archery contests or fishing contest or whatever else and those books/DVDs/stickers I sent you would come in handy. Of course the raffle idea is a good one since donations are always appreciated! Hope you all have fun. Amanda

  12. Hey Lance and other CW.com'ers, Looks like I won't be able to make it up there this weekend. My work schedule changed so I have to go band some owls this weekend. It's too bad that I have to miss the picnic. But take lots of photos and have a great time! Amanda

    Hey Lance

I was going to say just go the links page on CW.com and it's there, but when I went and clicked on it, it came up as an expired domain name. So I am guessing he took down the site or moved it. Anyway, try this email to reach Lance.... azhunterswhocare@hotmail.com Amanda

    Fun on the Reservation

I didn't see wolf sign but I heard them howling one morning around 3:30-4:30 am. It was a very eerie sound and it took me awhile to figure out what it was. They were far away from where I was, but I thought it was really cool hearing them. I can PM you more info if you need it. Amanda

    Fun on the Reservation

Most of you know that I do wildlife surveys for the San Carlos and lately it's been mostly owl surveys. I was there the last couple days in the Malay area and had some fun. On the way across Big Prairie we saw lots of antelope. One was a group of three does with three beautiful fawns. Didn't get a pic of those. But then shortly after seeing them we spotted a herd of 9 bucks. The full moon was above them and I tried to get an artistic photo but my little camera isn't big enough for the challenge. Since I don't have a telephoto lens I decided to just try and walk out to them and see how close they would let me get. I wasn't expecting much, but without any cover at all I was able to walk within about 100 yards of them! Lots of fun. Here are some pics (still not close enough to get great pics, but not too bad). And here is the photo of them after they got nervous about me. The one buck in the back right is the biggest of the group. Although it can be distracting to get any owl work done on the rez with all the big game running around, I did manage to find a pair of owls with two very small chicks that just got out of the nest. How's this for a room with a view: and here is the 2nd chick: And the photogenic father: And on the way down from the owls I passed by the bear skull and a mulie skull that I found years ago, but am not allowed to pick up since it's on the reservation. So I just visit them and generally snap a picture whenever I am in there. And here is an Abert's squirrel in mid-leap between a couple trees. When I took the photo, I thought I had missed the squirrel, but it cracked me up when I got home and saw the pics. And here is a WT skull I found years ago in another area. This is another rack that I just visit. I have a photo of it from 3 years ago which I will post together with this one sometime in another thread. This used to be a 5x4 plus eyeguards. And lastly I got to see a couple high elevation javelina out on Bee Flat. One of these pigs was so big we thought it was a small bear at first. I just had to walk in on them and try and snap a pic. Got within about 20 yds, but still the photos aren't very good. Hard to tell how big it looked in these photos. It's the dark one. Always an adventure hiking around the rez! I sure love my job! bear spray video clip

Here is a short video clip my husband and I got while taking an AZ Highways photographer out to see bears on the San Carlos. This was back when I was working as the biologist for the tribe and I was assigned to help the photographer (Bernadette Heath) get some good bear pics. Well, that was easy enough to do since that year was a great Gambel oak crop and there was a multitude of bears up around Dry Lake. The photographer (who is a very interesting and brave grandmother!) was fearless about bears and would run after them with her tripod and camera to get close enough to get a good shot. After a day of watching some of that behavior I got very concerned for her safety and decided to give her a can of bear spray (along with some advice about being a little more careful around bears). Anyway, the morning we got this video, my husband and I had left the photographer in a ground blind near the water so she could get some shots of the bears that came in. My husband and I went elsewhere and got some elk and bear video and then when we came back to see how she was doing, we saw she was photographing a bear across the water from her. Then we noticed a bear walking up toward her from behind her. Eventually she noticed that bear also and tried to get pics of it, but she had a large telephoto lens on and the bear was too close for it. And the bear just kept coming toward her, not really aggressively, but I think it was just very curious. She was in camo and had no-scent on, so I think it was hard for the bear to figure out what that object was. (it's also possible it smelled a granola bar in her backpack). So anyway, we knew she had the bear spray and so we just sat down and filmed the event. here is the clip

    Fun on the Reservation

Yes, that is blood on the beak. If you saw the owl video that I posted in another thread recently, you might remember that I take live mice with me to "mouse" the owls. (that's why he has recent blood on his beak and also on his talons) The mice are offered to the owl and then he usually will grab them and take them to the mate and young. For those that might have missed seeing the owl video, here is the link: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/video_clips/...music_video.wmv
  20. Great pics! It's tough getting a good live pic of a mearns! Amanda
  21. I just finished posting (on the ADA website) about three hours of video from the April AGFD Commission meeting where they discussed the deer hunt recommendations. Doug (RedRabbit) taped the meeting for the ADA so we could post it on the website, www.azdeer.org If you weren't able to attend the meeting, you can now watch it online. They are big files, so don't bother watching unless you have a fast connection. Amanda
  22. I plan to be there with my husband. I can certainly bring some stickers as prizes for whatever. Having a kids shoot sounds great! Do we have a specific camping area picked out? I haven't been to that lake, so I don't know the layout or where would be good for a large group. Post a map if you can of where you are planning to be. And maybe Lance can post his cell phone number or PM it to people in case someone needs to get in touch with you for more info. Amanda

    Tree Stands or Ground Blinds?

Treestands do have the advantage of having scent up high and giving you a better view of the area around you, but we have had at least a few of our members seriously injured falling out of treestands. Groundblinds are effective and safer. No risk of getting paralyzed or breaking bones sitting in a ground blind. Use no-scent sprays to avoid the problem of human scent. Duwane Adams swears by the new double bull blinds and says they control scent perfectly. He told me he has coues walk within a few yards of his blinds. I have had coues (and elk, turkey, coyote, etc) walk within yards of me when I was in ground blinds made of natural materials. The hard part is finding the right time to draw without them seeing you. That's when those double bull blinds are particularly effective since they have screening that blocks the animals view and yet you can shoot through it. Amanda
