My '07 New Mexico Coues
CouesWhitetail replied to Foundry Man's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Great lookin' buck there Jason and how great you could share all that with your young son!! Amanda -
That's hysterical!! Can't believe GRONG hasn't posted yet. I bet he hasn't seen it. Amanda

Thanks to everyone for not posting the pics without permission. If you know the hunter, call them up and ask them to come post or get permission for it. Otherwise let it be. I get really tired of angry hunters demanding I take their photos down when people post them without permission. Please be respectful of the hunters by not posting without permission. Thank you. Amanda

My 2007 AZ Coues Hunt
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Thanks for all the great replies! The buck really isn't all that big, but he is a great one anyway, I think! Glad you guys enjoyed the story so much. Lance, you are right on the money there with all your descriptions....were you there with me? hehehe here is a blown up pic from the first morning (Monday) we saw this buck. You can see all the same tines that are unique to this buck. It was really interesting trying to relocate him everyday and following his movements. None of the deer really made any big movements during the 4 days I watched them. They slowly moved up the ridge over the days and then across the top. Maybe 200-300 yards a day. Not much at all. After hiking over there to get my buck, Scott said, now I know why they weren't moving much...this country is brutal! I suppose it's not so brutal for a four-legged critter though. Wish I could move like a coues deer through this stuff! My buck had lots of fat on him too! Seems like it's been a great year for Coues! Hey, Danny H., nice to hear from you. I tried calling you on the way through Safford, but of course your number was disconnected. Hope you are enjoying the Congo. Post some pics sometime! Fill us in on life out there! Amanda -
huntin' prairie dinosaurs...
CouesWhitetail replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Great trip report Scottyboy! Sage grouse are really cool birds. A friend of mine got her PhD studying them in CO. Gorgeous birds. Thanks for all the pics and congrats on another great bird hunt for you! Amanda -
The Jim White adapter works by having a post that screws into the front of your binos between the barrels. That post then slips into a small receiver that is mounted onto the a plate on your tripod head. I leave the post on my swaros and leave the receiver on the tripod head. When you want to put your binos securely on the tripod, you just slip the post into the receiver. When you want to remove them, you just lift them up. No screwing or unscrewing required. Very simple and well designed. Here are some photos to try and show the adapter. The photos were originally done to shown the tripler, so they aren't perfect for showing the adapter, but you should be able to get the idea. Amanda

Congratulations on your buck! Amanda

I use the Jim White adapter and I think it's great. It's rock steady for me and it's much more lightweight and easier to use than the one made by swaro. And as with anything I sell...if you don't like it, you can return it for a refund. So I would suggest you try the Jim White adapter and see if you don't love it like I do. Gamehauler, what part isn't steady the receiver or the post? I locktite my receiver onto the plate of my tripod head and screw in the post on the binos well and it really is rock steady. I can't imagine how you don't have a steady adapter. I will PM you about it to get it cleared up for you. Amanda

My 2007 AZ Coues Hunt
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Doug, I never got to the ruins, but I believe Scott has been in them before. In addition to that one I pointed out in the photo, he said something about a completely bricked up one nearby. Apparently a sealed up storage space? Or maybe burial site? I hope to get to go to those ruins some time. I love that stuff! Amanda -
Great job Brian!! Wow, I love that buck! Amanda

Factory or Handloaded Ammo?
CouesWhitetail replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I always use hand loads. My neighbor has all the equipment and know-how so I am very fortunate. I go over will all the supplies and load at his house. This year, I used 130 grain Hornady SST bullets and let me tell you, that bullet really does some damage and is very impressive. We load for the "accuracy load" for my Winchester .270 according to some book he has. It calls for 55.5 grains of powder. I love the accuracy I get out of them!! It's the same load I have used for like 15 years. Amanda -
Dog got skunked!
CouesWhitetail replied to Kevin's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have heard the same things that Doug mentions. Those should work. Our dog got sprayed recently and came in the bedroom in the middle of the night. That woke us up quick! My wonderful husband took on the chore of dealing with the dog while I slept. We didn't have any of the remedies mentioned above, so he just washed her with dog shampoo and to our great relief it worked fine! I don't understand it, perhaps it was just because he washed her shortly after she got sprayed, but she smelled just fine in the morning. Like Doug, I think my dog thinks it's a black and white cat. She can't stay away from them! I let her out front the other day and she tore across the lawn and cornered a skunk against our fence and some bushes. She was practically nose to nose with it, but God bless that skunk because it didn't spray before I got the dog back off it. Wow, lucky! Amanda -
Good luck! Hope you have a great weekend! Amanda
