Check out javelinahunter.com for lots of info on hunting javelina. If you aren't aware of it already, you can call in javelina using an animal in distress call like you would for a coyote. They come charging in to protect their young that they think are getting mauled by a predator. It's pretty exciting! Javelinahunter.com makes a javelina call you can buy. Amanda

Awesome animal there Scottyboy!! I got to see a buffalo up close at the kaibab check station. I put my hand into his amazingly thick hair on his neck. They really are amazingly tough animals. Bet they didn't even notice that 30 mph wind!! Amanda

List of all the people drawn for
CouesWhitetail replied to coues7's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You can get them from AGFD. Call and ask them for the procedure. I believe you have to pay for the list though. Amanda -
I think coues7 is right. But call AGFD and ask them for the regulations about it. Amanda

Sorry you felt ripped off. Perhaps you should write a letter to the San Carlos Rec and Wildlife Dept director and let them know. Unit D has always had a lot of lions since it's perfect lion country. I once saw four lions together down there. You should have received a free lion tag with your deer tag. Would have been a great opportunity to get a lion. There really shouldn't be a lot of hunting pressure on whitetail in Unit D. Although there was a tribal deer hunt, most all the tribal members hunt mulies and don't bother with whitetail. The real question is whether the lions are hammering the bucks hard enough to keep the age structure down and therefore limit trophy quality. The San Carlos game dept has expressed interest in doing some research to find out. Amanda

Good Survival Book
CouesWhitetail replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
How about some of the Jon Krakauer books? Into Thin Air is an amazing story of a Mt Everest expedition that was tragic. And his "into the wild" is a very good book about a young man who goes to alaska to live on his own. And "Touching the Void" by Joe Simpson is an absolutely amazing tale of survival. Amanda -

CouesWhitetail replied to jamaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Dan Bishop has been a sponsor for CouesWhitetail.com for several years. He advertises his mexico hunting business here on the site. That business is Cola Blanca Outfitters. http://web.mac.com/dlbishop/cola_blanca_ou.../Home_Page.html If you go visit that website, you will see he also has info and photos up about his taxidermy work. And of course, going to see his work in person at his shop is a great idea. Amanda -
Twelve Days of Christmas: 34A Coues Hunt
CouesWhitetail replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Doug, Thanks for the write-up and photos. I am really sorry you lost that buck. That must be heartbreaking. It's one of my greatest fears with hunting.... Amanda -
Jim, Yes, I did all that, but he had already found some. Amanda

Neat sighting. I once saw a couple eagles harassing a herd of javelina trying to get one. They never did, but it was amazing to watch. The javelina all gathered up the young ones and kind of huddled together to avoid any of them getting picked off. The eagles would take turns swooping in on them looking for an opening or weakness. Well, at least like you said, it was a clean miss! That's something to be thankful for. Sorry it didn't go as planned! Keep after him. Amanda
