Coues Buck Contest
CouesWhitetail replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Regarding the voting on categories (like best hunt story, etc)....Doug and I had talked about it before he started this thread and I was thinking that voting on the contest categories should be limited to just those who registered for the contest (this year there were about 200 people). But we could also leave it open to any registered member whether they are signed up for the contest or not. Which do you guys prefer? Amanda -
Coues Buck Contest
CouesWhitetail replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Good suggestion, and I am already doing that for this contest. When I first announced the contest, Chris Denham of Western Hunter magazine contacted me to suggest we do an article about the winners of the contest for his magazine. So I am working with him to do that. We are still working on exactly what format to do for that. Amanda -
Woohoo! Do you know if there will be any price change with the new batch? Where does the line start? Don't know yet on the price. Hopefully it won't go up. Amanda

If you don't want to haul a spotting scope around, then the tripler is a fine substitute. It's way better than the swaro doubler (which I agree is a waste of time and money). But also remember, the tripler isn't a replacement for a scope, just an alternative. Jim is currently still out of the triplers, but I think he will have some after the show and may even have a couple at the ISE show this weekend. But I should be able to start selling them again after the ISE show. He had trouble getting a reliable supplier for the parts. Amanda

Hey Video Guys!
CouesWhitetail replied to soazarcher's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
It depends on what you are wanting to do with the footage. Are you trying to produce a TV show or just have good footage of your hunts? I use the GL2 and find it's an excellent camera and it's not to big to carry around. You can get a doubler for it to give you more range, but you trade a little in picture quality when using the doubler. I have created promotional DVDs for outfitters using that camera and it works great. The XL1 will give you a better image, but unless you are producing a TV show, I don't think it's a big enough difference to justify the extra cost and weight. Amanda -
Congratulations! I got to have some Oryx meat last summer courtesy of a friend. It was excellent meat! We cooked it over a campfire....hard to beat that! Gorgeous animal. Amanda

I shoot a .270 and handload my ammunition for it. I use a 130 grain hornady SST bullet (used to just use a spire point, but now love the SST) with 55.5 grains of 4350 powder. I tend to put my zero at 200 yards, but you can set it to be at 300 yards and then you are probably going to be 3.5 inches high at 100 yards, and 4.3 inches high at 200 yards and 10 inches LOW at 400 yards. Of course this all depends on what bullet weight and powder load you go with, that example was with a 130 grain bullet like I use with a velocity of 3100 fps. Amanda

You can look through these at the ISE show March 7-9. Jim White is a Vortex dealer and will have them on hand for you to check out. His booth No, is: L1622C, Its a corner space on the end, I think near the theater. Stop by and look them over. Amanda

Who is going to the ISE show?
CouesWhitetail replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I will be at Jim White's booth most of the time. His booth No, is: L1622C, Its a corner space on the end, I think near the theater. Jim will have a whole range of tripods, optics, adapters and such there. So it's a great opportunity to swing by and see his products. I will also have my scoring stuff with me, so if you have a rack you want scored, bring it by and if I have time I will get it done there. And I will have some CW.com tshirts, hats, videos, etc. there. I am hoping that we can have the bronze that was created for the contest there at the booth for everyone to see. I imagine lots of you would like to see it in person. Amanda -

Congratulations Tommy!! Amanda -
you should send a private message to azhunterswhocare through the forum (use the member search in upper right part of the forum page). He has been organizing cleanups in Unit 36 for years. He can give you some info on what works best. Also, I would contact the game warden for 24B and ask for input there. AGFD can probably provide a lot of the materials and press needed for the project. If it's on USFS land, I would contact them as well. Amanda

FALL 2007-JAN 2008 COUES BUCK CONTEST
CouesWhitetail replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I am very excited about the contest this year. We had so many great prizes and bucks! We owe a special thank you to Doug (aka Red Rabbit) for his tireless work keeping track of all the registrants in the contest. Doug did this as a volunteer and he has done this for several years in a row now. But this year was definitely the most work since we had over 200 entrants to the contest (about twice as many as in previous years!). Thank you Doug for all your hard work. It's nice to have someone like you to count on!!! Amanda -

CouesWhitetail replied to gr8fuldoug's topic in Optics and tripods
Nice to see at least a few CW.com'ers have won something! I went and entered......you have to enter each time for the new drawings, so if you entered in the past, you still need to enter again. Amanda -
SCI scoring
CouesWhitetail replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Gino, I agree those baselines look off. Are you sure these guys were official SCI measurers? Or were they just guys they got to man the booth? It's interesting that it looks like they got the baseline right on that droptine on the left antler. You might want to call SCI and share the name of the measurer and show those photos. Amanda -
