    Upcoming Youth deer hunts

Thanks to Doug Burt of AGFD for sending out a timely email summarizing some of the youth camps coming up. If you know a youth hunter in need of help on their deer hunt, these are great camps to get advice, food and general help. Hunting and Angling Heritage Workgroup, Next weekend, Nov. 21-23, kicks off another string of youth camps! If you’re interested in visiting an event to get an idea of what they look like, want to help out – glass, cook, fire tending, etc., or just looking for a road trip with the family during this great weather here are some great options. Details and contact information is below. Also, don’t forget it’s small game season, so take advantage of flushing quail, running rabbits, jumping jackrabbits and ducks on cupped-wings. A good small game hunter makes a great deer hunter. cool thread, thanks for starting this. I love taking pics of all kinds of creatures, big and small. I took some insect pics back when we had a thread going about bugs and I forgot to go and post them, so here are a few creepy crawling critters.

    Monday Check in

Down two more pounds since I last posted......did my backpack hunt, which was awesome, right up until the point where the big buck ran away unhurt despite throwing lead at him...oh well...had a great time and great opportunity at giant buck....anyway, on the backpack hunt I ate a lot of calories to make sure I didn't run out of energy during the hunt and ate things that I normally don't eat now like mountain house meals, bagels and peanut butter...but I still managed to lose weight, so that's awesome! Felt strong and was wonderful being slimmer on my hunt. Can't wait until next year to be toting around a lot less weight. Luckily one of my hunting buddy is into this same weight loss, high nutrition eating that I am doing, so that made it a lot easier to not sabotage my diet.

    Friendy coues doe

We saw a coues doe like that on my backpack hunt. We didn't get as close as you did, but she clearly heard and saw us coming and just kept calmly feeding and slowly moving slightly away. We got to 20 yards or so before she finally decided to move off more quickly. It was a nice experience! I had another time the same thing happened on Mt Graham....got within 20 feet of her...fun!
