    Hail, Fire, and Elk antlers

To find the owls you imitate their calls during a night survey in the hopes of prompting a territorial response from the male or a pair. When you get a detection, you plot it on a map and then figure out where the best daytime habitat for a roost would be. Then go hike in there and look around for sign (whitewash, feathers, pellets) and the owls. Like any animal, they have certain areas they like to "bed". For these owls it's generally the coolest, shadiest area, which usually means north-facing slopes of steep canyons or at the junction of drainages. Sometimes they are easy to find, especially if they are breeding because they and their young can be more vocal. Sometimes it's hard work and you don't find anything, as was the case this past trip. New Tshirt design

here is that design in a short sleeve with that serene green color most people seem to prefer. http://www.customink.com/designs/shortteam...p;cm_ite=design Amanda

    New Tshirt design

Actually I am trying to keep the name on the front so people can see it better. I like the look of shirts with writing down the sleeve, but I asked them about it and it will cost more. I am not ruling it out yet though. They don't have it built into their design lab so that you can't see how it would look, so I couldn't design it to show you that way. As far as orange....it was the color asked for by the folks requesting a long sleeve shirt. The other solid colors don't work as well, but we could do it with white or grey. However, what I have heard from most people is they don't like plain color shirts. The long sleeve shirt has more of a limit on solid colors than the short sleeve shirt. The baseball style shirt like Chef picked out is a different story, but I don't know how many would like that style. Amanda

    New Tshirt design

Yeah, I am figuring most people are not interested in their names on the shirts. I want the big graphic and CouesWhitetail.com on the front so people can actually see it better and it will show up if you have your pic taken wearing the shirt. The little CWT.com text on some of the other shirts just doesn't show up well. Amanda

    Time for a name change!

So far none of the new names seems right to me. There has got to be something better. And I am with Hunterdan....younghunter seems very fitting. You will always be younger than most of the hunters on this site. Amanda

    Coues Deer Celebration 5!!!

Thanks a million guys for all your comments about the video. I really appreciate getting feedback on these. I put a lot of work into them and it's nice to know if I am on the right track or not with making something you guys enjoy. Feel free to email or PM me with comments (good or bad) if you don't want to post them here. Thanks to everyone for sending in photos! Please remember to take good photos on your trips and send them in next year so we can make an even better video. Try unusual angles and perspectives. Smile and show how much you enjoy being out there. This year I had to do a LOT of editing on the photos to make them nicer to look at. So take your time and make a beautiful memory of your hunt. For more tips on taking photos, read Red Rabbits photo guide. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/photographing_your_buck.htm Amanda

    Collared Dove

There are tons in the Globe/Safford area. I have been wanting to hunt them for awhile, but they are in neighborhoods mostly, so it's tough to figure a way to do it. If someone cooks one up, let me know how they taste. Seems like they would be as good as any dove and of good size. Amanda

    JibJab

I assume several of you will remember the customized Jibjab video that I believe Coosefan made that had several of us CW.com'ers dancing around as elves in Santa's workshop at Christmas time. It was a good one. Maybe Coosefan still has the link? Amanda

    North of the River Muley's

here is one a guy shot right in front of me one morning during last year's hunt. I was heading out to check an area for a friend of mine. Went to the guy's camp later and scored it for him, but I don't remember what it scored....not giant, but very nice.
  16. Awesome Doug. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I am very jealous. I have only been to Alaska once, and after that I tried to convince my husband we should live there!! Amazing country for sure. Amanda

    Coues Deer Celebration 5!!!

It took me awhile to figure out where to put your pic. I had it in the main video for a long time until it finally dawned on me to put it as the thank you screen. I love that one! Thanks for sending it in. Amanda

    Find the Carp Deer

This one is a little tough. There are two deer in the pic. Some other pics: waiting for the youngbloods to cross the road. another antelope in the junipers: And I wonder how many of you have see this type of frog? It's called an Arizona Treefrog and I actually hadn't seen one before. They were calling in the night so I went out to find them. They are related to the canyon treefrog, but seem to like more forested environment. And here is a different type of toad that had some kind of eye problem. And here is an old elk antler I came across.

    Coues Deer Celebration 5!!!

Geez Gino..I know the first two mins are a bit slow, but a funeral???...I was going more for a reverant/awe-of-beauty kind of mood. And here I specifically thought of you when I put in the 2nd song with it's hard-thumping sound. I thought you would love that one. It goes great with those giant bucks early on. Amanda

Which is best? Leica, Swar. or Zeiss need HELP!!!

Go to Outdoorsman's and look through them all side by side and hold them. See which you like best. As has been said, they all are great glass. I use Zeiss and Swaros. Amanda

    Coues Deer Celebration 5!!!

I figured Parker would like being a star!! You had so many great pics of him in the field this year, that I actually had a hard time keeping him out of the video even more than he was already in it. I love that pic of him holding the sheds at the end!! And did you like how I woke him up from his nap with that kicking deer?! Glad you enjoyed the video! I have thought about putting all the Coues Celebration videos on a DVD for you guys. I might do it, but one of my external harddrives seems to have crashed and the videos were on that, except for Coues Celeb 5 (thank god!). Amanda
