Awesome. Congratulations! Not many people can say they have gotten a coues with a bow using spot and stalk! Amanda
-
One thing Jaret said he does is he uses a small string as a bino strap. That way if you had to put them down suddenly or you just slipped or something, your binos don't actually fall. But since you have the pouch you don't need a big bino strap like the ones that come with binos. You can see the green string in this pic from his flyer.

I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. Amanda

Allen got a nice one opening day. He asked me to post some pics for him. He and his son Travis are still trying to get one for Travis. This was Allen's first Coues with a bow! (he doesn't know how to work the self timer on his camera, so here are the pics of the buck only).

MY BOOK IN CATALOG
CouesWhitetail replied to billrquimby's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Thank you, Amanda, for buying my book but, more than that, for creating and maintaining this site. It provides this old man many hours of fun reading about the exploits of younger Coues whitetail hunters. I especially enjoyed seeing the photo this week of the young lady bowhunter with her beautiful buck. Congratulations to her! In sixty years of hunting in this state I've seen only one live Arizona whitetail with antlers that would come close to matching the antlers on her buck, and it jumped up a second after I shot a smaller one. To take such a deer with a bow is a heck of an achievement! It would be wonderful to be young and healthy again, and able to walk and climb hills as I once did. I urge you all to squeeze in all the hunts you can while you can. Bill Quimby You are most welcome Bill! Love that "I've seen only one live Arizona whitetail with antlers that would come close to matching the antlers on her buck, and it jumped up a second after I shot a smaller one" ------ hehehe, classic! "I urge you all to squeeze in all the hunts you can while you can." ---That's advice I try to take to heart! Amanda -
Wow, never seen does packed into a water trough like that! It's hard to believe. Neat pic! Amanda

I enjoy Javelina meat. I have never had a bad one. It's very much like lean pork. Just make sure when you clean the animal that you don't touch the scent gland (located on the back just above the tail) or get anything that has touched the gland on the meat. You don't have to cut out the gland, just skin the animal as you would anything else. But don't handle the fur around there and where removable gloves so you have clean hands for dealing with the meat. I have cooked javelina many ways. The backstraps and tenderloin are excellent. one of the best I had was when I happened to marinate them in lawry's citrus grill marinade. Then slow cook it on the grill and smoke it if you have some wood chips. I think a pineapple/citrus marinade would be great too. You can also grind the meat up for sausage and chorizo. Or use a slow cooker with green chili sauce for burrito meat. And it makes great jerky too. I still know guys that rave about some javelina jerky I made 15 years ago! visit javelinahunter.com....I think they have a recipe section. and don't listen to all the naysayers (like Gino!)!!! Amanda

Or you can go to the How To Score section of CouesWhitetail.com and get scoresheets as well as a step by step how to and a spreadsheet to enter numbers into. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/how_to_score..._Coues_deer.htm

Jaret is making one that will fit 15x56's. So I imagine your 10x50 would fit in that as well..... Amanda

That's pretty much the method I use..... I certainly have spent time estimating tine length and main beams and such, but really when it came down to it, it was just a matter of if I wanted the buck or not. If I have to spend a bunch of time deciding if his 3rds are 6 inches or 7.5 inches, etc....then it's probably not a buck I want. Usually, I know right away if it's a buck I will shoot. Amanda

Where to buy Matthews Switchback XT???
CouesWhitetail replied to mattobertin's topic in Optics and tripods
I think someone said Ross Outdoors was now carrying Matthews. You can google them to get contact info. They are in the valley. Amanda -
Thanks for the review Jim! Nice pics! I think the new and improved version will be a definite winner. The guy who makes them is up in Alaska Guiding for the next 5 weeks, and he is a one man operation, so he didn't have an exact date when the new ones would be ready. But I will definitely let everyone know. I think it will be a couple months. Amanda

My favorite parts of the story... They all had either radios, cell phones or flash cards in hand and their only goal was to notify me when the buck was getting close so I could shut down the a/c and tv before he heard it (worked like a charm too I might add) Now I had to make the shot! I drew down on him at a range of 120 yards (and yes I am very capable of shooting 3" groups at this distance) But low and behold he kept getting closer Musta been the scentlock and the cover scents I was using. Well anyways he kept coming in and when he got to about 16 yards or so he tripped over the extetion cord and paused and thats when I let him have it with my 100grain

Predator Hunting Contest
CouesWhitetail replied to AzTrapper's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I wondering the same as Casey was....why bother with a central check-in site? Why not just say what you got and back it up with photos? I suppose it's nicer to meet everyone, but my guess is you can get more participation if people don't have to drive a long way to meet up. perhaps have a checkin for those that can make it and yet not make it mandatory? Let others from far away use photos to "check-in". Amanda -
