Cats and Coues for the old man.
CouesWhitetail replied to PRED8R's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
What a great hunt to share with your dad!! Amanda -
Yes, the prototype security box was being sent to DLC today. If he approves it, then he should get the first ones sent to him by next week. When he does, I will post them up here. Amanda

They are definitely nice and small and more easily hidden. And you only need 8 AA's vs the 8 D's you are carrying. I have some old moultries and these new cams are just a ton better in that they have better trigger speed, they are much smaller and lighter and they have IR flash rather than regular. The covert II security cover should be coming in next week sometime. If anyone wants to continue talking about the DLC Covert II's we should probably make another thread rather than posting in the Scoutguard thread. Amanda

Reccomend any good books for me?
CouesWhitetail replied to Mr. Jonathan's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Thanks Tony and Bill!! I am sure those are some great suggestions. Amanda -
I am not sure if your question is about Scoutguard cameras or Covert cameras, but essentially the answer is the same. The Covert II has a couple extra LED lights and therefore probably has slightly lower battery life than the Scoutguard or Covert I. Yes, they have a setting to take a 3 shot burst if you want everytime it's triggered. And they have exceptional battery life. People report getting thousands of pics on a set of 8 AA batteries. Free Shipping on Covert I and II trail cameras!
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in CouesWhitetail.com Store
I now carry the DLC Covert I and II trail cameras. I am now offering free shipping on these cameras, just in time for Christmas! The DLC Covert II offers some nice upgrades over that original Scoutguard/DLC Covert I. Caveat is if you order the security box to go with it, I have to charge some shipping since it's heavier.....but still it's a good deal! Check out the double-packs too! They are a great way to save some money on these cams. Check them out! Amanda -

I bet Bill Quimby and Outdoor Writer will have some great suggestions for you! Amanda -
Hey Guys, There has been a change in status in my selling Scoutguard cameras. HCO is the official distributor of scoutguard cameras and they don't want me to sell another type of camera called the DLC Covert I or II camera, which I just added to the store. I think the Covert II has some advantages that you guys will like, so I am going to continue selling it. So HCO Scoutguard has asked me to stop selling their cams. The DLC Covert cams are made by the same company that makes Scoutguard, but they have a different name on them since the Scoutguard name was claimed by HCO. The Covert name is owned by DLC. The manufacturer officially endorses both cameras. All the cameras carry a full 1 year warranty. You can check out the Covert 1 and II on the trail camera page. The Covert II has some nice improvements over the original scoutguard camera including: 2 extra LEDs, a wider field of view, a threaded hole on the bottom to mount a tripod, easier access to batteries and the plug in for the remote. It also comes with a 2GB card and has the camo pattern standard (not $10 extra like on the scoutguard). http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/trail_cameras.htm The Covert II will have a security box coming out soon (hopefully this week). I am getting one this week also to test out and will post some samples for you when I get a chance. Seems like a great little camera from what I can tell. Amanda

It will be interesting to hear from a houndsman on this. Personally I would probably have taken that dog and then worked on finding the owner. Tough to leave a dog in bad shape. There aren't that many houndsman around and knowing the dog had a sewn up eye should make it easy for the owner to ID it over the phone. My guess is houndsman would prefer someone help their dog if it seemed to need it, but who knows. Several months ago I saw a couple hound dogs that looked like they were trying to find their way home by trotting along a highway by camp verde. I thought they might have been Grong's dad's dogs, so I called him and let him know about it. They weren't his and they didn't seem to know whose they were....at least the dogs looked in great shape when I last saw them and they were headed toward town, so I figured someone who knew them would find them. Custom Security Box for Scoutguard trail camera
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Hi All, AZPackhorse has made a very generous offer. As many of you know, he has built himself a security box for the scoutguard trail camera he has. And now he is offering a FREE security box to the next person who orders a scoutguard trail camera (either the camo version or regular green) from me. Woo-hoo, what a deal! Thanks Brian!! Brian will be camo painting the lockbox shown below. So it will have a nice paint job on it before it gets sent out. You can order a cam on this page: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/trail_cameras.htm here are the pics of his homemade security box: -
That's funny!!! Hope the blind is ok. Amanda

This month we feature Ward's Outfitters in our sponsor spotlight. Ward's Outfitters is owned and operated by Steven Ward. Many of you have seen his posts on the forum...he posts under the name WardsOutfitters. He contributed some very nice coues pics and video to the last Coues Deer Celebration video. Steven has been guiding Coues deer hunters for 18 years, but really got into it full time during the last 6 years. He provides fully outfitted hunts for Coues Deer, Mule Deer, Elk, Javelina and Game Birds. He even does some guided hunts for Gould's turkey in Mexico. He averages about 50 clients a year and they enjoy very high success rates. Coues Deer Archery 100% opportunity Mule Deer Archery 99% Elk archery 100% Coues Deer rifle 99% Mule deer rifle 100% Elk rifle 99% Steven estimates that about 80% of the mule deer archers take bucks big enough for the Pope and Young recordbook, while 90% of coues archers and 100% of elk archery take Pope and Young animals. When I asked Steven why someone should hire him rather than another outfitter, he said "First I would have to say that we run a first class operation. We guide no more then 6 hunters per week. Another reason is that I do this as a career, so I can spend more time in the field than a outfitter that has a full time job and is trying to guide hunters. We only guide in areas we know and never farm out our clients. They are always guided by one of my staff members or myself. I think our success rate speaks for itself. I also think what separates us from the others is we specialize in archery hunts, and 95% of our hunts are archery hunts. " It's not often you find an outfitter that caters to archery hunters. Steven will create the type of hunt you are looking for. He can help you on a spot and stalk hunt or you can hunt out of a carefully placed hunting blind. Although archery hunting is his passion, Steven also guides rifle and muzzleloader hunters and those clients are very successful also. Steven is driven to provide excellent customer service and make sure you have fun on your hunt. He enjoys guiding young kids as well as adults, both men and women. So check out his website and see if he can't make you more successful on your next hunt. He has lots of excellent video on his website along with lots of photos. Steven has recently been active in working against some of the changes being proposed for archery hunts in Arizona. He is starting petitions and voicing his opinion at meetings to make sure the AGFD commission is aware that there are those that oppose many of the changes to archery hunting regulations. So not only is Steven working hard with his clients to give them outstanding hunts, he is working to protect archery hunting rights in Arizona. Support those that support your passion! 3 feet of wind....that's funny Doug!! We had about 100 feet of wind up here. Thought my house would be gone by morning! Decent amount of rain too. I was thinking how I was glad I wasn't backpacked out in my bivy sack on some cactus covered slope last night!! Sometimes I love being INSIDE! Amanda
