    The Claw

I definitely found it not nearly as stable as when I used my bipod on the front of the gun and a tripod under the butt. Of course you could always use something under the butt and the gun claw in the front of the gun. Jim raises a good point about it making it easier for someone to find the buck in the scope. It also allows for easier tracking of the buck with the gun mounted to your tripod. Amanda

    The Claw

Cade Smith makes it. You can purchase it on his website: thgunclaw.com I tested one out the other day and found that it's usefulness is highly dependent on having an absolutely sturdy tripod and tripod head. I have bogen/manfrotto 701rc2 head and I never thought it had much play in it before I tried to use the claw on it. There was enough "micro" movement between the plate and the tripod head to make the crosshairs unsteady. I have talked to Cade about that and he suggested that the upgraded version of that tripod head has less play. I also tried it on the Jim White tripod head and found it also to not be particularly steady. I sent the product to Red Rabbit to test out on some other tripods/tripod heads. So far his experience is the same as mine. Amanda

    Sheep shed?

You are correct, sheep do not shed their horns. But they are hollow sheaths that fit over a bony core. When the animal dies, eventually that sheath falls off. Cool find!!!! Amanda

    Any Packers fans here?????

Hi All, Well, my mom and dad were born in WI and so I have family out there and we go visit now and then. My dad, husband, brother and I recently made a pilgrimage. We visited the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the US (Horican Marsh National Wildlife Refuge). It's an amazing place where hundreds of thousands, if not millions of geese gather during migration. You can see and hear hundreds of thousands in the marsh and then there are the waves and waves and waves of geese in the air coming and going. We also saw a flock of sandhill cranes and also a great sighting of a Snowy Owl. It was sitting on the ice eating a muskrat (or something like that). We watched it glide along just inches above the ice. Very impressive bird. Weather out there wasn't too bad, but we many of the ponds and marshes had frozen over just enough so that you could barely tell there was ice, but there had to be because the birds were standing out there! Some lawn art we saw while driving around looking for a cheeseshop: and we finally found the cheese shop. We visited several cheese shops and wineries during the trip. Came home with some wonderful stuff. And one of the highlights of the trip was touring Lambeau field where the Packers play and going through the Packers Hall of Fame. I highly recommend it, if anyone out there is considering it. It snowed the night before so we had a nice layer of white stuff at the stadium. we got to go through the tunnel and out to the field: And holy cow, you would not believe how much Packers stuff there is in their store at the stadium!!! It's overwhelming. Basically most any item you can think of has been branded and is for sale in that store. I bought a nice Christmas wreath....I love it!!! lava lamps: football chandalier: tools: keg grill: chair: glasses: checkers/chess games: Halloween pumpkins: and my favorite, the green bay truck full of cheeseheads: glasses: refrigerator: And on and on and on. Clothing, hats, gloves, scarfs, chritmas ornaments, wallets, and so much more. Anyway, I had a great time with family and friends and thought there might be some Packers fans on here that might enjoying seeing some pics!! Go Pack!!! Oh and I almost forgot! It was opening weekend of deer season while I was there. TONS of orange suited hunters out in the woods. You see orange dots out there while we were driving around. There are so many hunters out there in such tight quarters that every year people shoot members of their own hunting parties. I saved some newspapers with articles about the deer hunt out there. Here is a pic of a deer I saw: Amanda

I have a relative with season tickets and he says I can come to a home game, but he says it has to be in December or some other freezing month up there and he says I can't even take a blanket to wrap up in while sitting out there in the stands! He says if I do, that it won't really be experiencing what a true home game is like!!!! Brrrrrrrrr...... I am still hoping he changes his mind and lets me come in Sept Amanda

Thanks!! Let me know a little more about the tent though if you can. I don't have a ton of storage space at my house, so I want to make sure I would actually use it before I take it. If you figure out the model, then I can just look online for specs. That way you don't have to set it up and take pics of it. Thanks again for the generous offer. Amanda

what model Kelty is it? and what condition? I might just have to snap that up to have a spare or loaner tent. Amanda

    Deer and ELK?

Very nice!! I found elk scat on the north side of the pinals this summer. Wasn't that old. And I know there are elk in the Hog Mtns which is not very far east of where you saw that cow. I think they are left over from the Cutter elk herd, which they say started from an accidental release of elk. here is what AGFD elk management plan says about elk in the Pinals and 24a: In Unit 24A, elk occur in two locations. Periodic observations of elk in and around the Timber Camp Mountains in the northern portion of the unit indicate presence of pioneering bulls and seasonal use by some cow elk. There is also a small number of elk in the Pinal Mountains but the elk habitat is poor. The Pinal Mountain elk are most likely remnants of the Cutter herd. Periodic observations of elk have been made within these areas of Unit 24A for several decades. Population levels seem to be remaining stable, at low densities, with no complaints from landowners or lessees. Proximity of these areas to the San Carlos Reservation may complicate management of elk in Unit 24A. Amanda
