What to look for terrain wise...
CouesWhitetail replied to TEmbry's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Perhaps you already read the Coues deer habitat section on the main site, but if you haven't there is some good info there: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/coues_biolog...eer_habitat.htm I am like AZAntlerhead and kind of obsessed with studying topos and feel naked in the woods without a topo! It can be pretty easy to pick out what is the best deer habitat by looking at a topo. And I will reiterate what Steven said about water being the key. I look for a place away from roads and with a couple reliable water sources. I love places that have a several springs scattered in a couple square miles. You just know deer will be there. And of course it all depends on what you like for terrain to hunt in. Some like it rough, some like it flat. Coues deer are in both and everything in between. As far as elevation, a general rule of thumb is between 4-6,000 ft. Amanda -

A Steelers site shows the two feet down. What a heartbreaking game!! -
Hey, just saw your pics....nice! Did you just set the cam up in a saddle or was there some kind of water attracting the game there? Amanda
-
I would imagine they already thought of the idea of a live feed on the website and rejected the idea for some reason. It's a rather obvious idea, but I might contact whoever is in charge of the way they are doing it now and see if they can just make it a live feed on their site. That sure would be nice. Amanda

As I read it, it's not just broadcast online or somewhere for everyone, but apparently you have to be at a AGFD office to view this? I wonder why they limited it that way. A live stream on their website would allow more people to access it. People could listen to the meeting at their office while working on something else. Amanda

I agree.....this is a problem. Can't afford as many cams as I would like to set out....but WillHunt4Coues says he will loan me some cams if I want! Thanks Clay! Hate to be responsible for getting someone elses cam stolen though! The good thing is that it's fun to try and think up places that most people won't go and that have water so you can set out the cams and not worry about it. And again, I have to thank Clay for sharing a great spot with me. At least it makes for more interesting dog walks when there is a trail camera to go check! Amanda

Excellent!! That seems like a very good idea. It means I won't have to video tape and post meetings anymore! Interesting that you can submit blue slips as if you were attending the meeting. That's cool. I hope the program works and we see more hunters participating in the meetings! Amanda

I think the cat must have been moving quickly also, or I would have caught it more in the middle of the pic. I was really wishing I had my Covert II out at that spot at that moment since it has a little more light and I might have gotten a better pic. But who knows. I was still happy to get it. At first I just thought nothing was there. I repositioned the cam the other day and set it to video, so maybe I will have some better stuff next time. Amanda

Good idea Clay. Several of us have already done that and hopefully more will. Amanda

Awesome Gino and crew!! Those are some great bucks all around! Thanks for taking the time to write it up and post! Amanda -
Tell him we miss him!! Seems to me he stopped posting around here right after some people made some negative comments about him in a thread here. So this is just a reminder to everyone that your comments in the forum can have unintended consequences. Amanda

That is very cool. Perhaps we need to figure a way to add your product to the CW store so more members can get a design of their choosing. Amanda

Ward's Outfitters Pictures Of live deer
CouesWhitetail replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Ward's Outfitters is an official sponsor of this website. Here is his website: http://www.wardsoutfitters.com/ I spent last week with Steven hunting some of these GIANT coues. Unfortunately I didn't kill one, but I had some very close encounters and had a great time. I really wanted to get that giant nontypical. When you see him in person, you can see more nontypical points coming off the back. I will post more pics and info on my hunt after I review and edit some video so I can post that along with it. Thanks Steven for inviting me out to pursue that giant buck! What a blast! Amanda -

Covert II Trail Cam from CWT.com
CouesWhitetail replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Trail Cameras
That's one of the bucks I tried to get last week while hunting with Ward's outfitters. He is a very cool buck, isn't he? I will make a post eventually in another thread about all the great bucks I saw out there. When I sat that blind, I didn't see that buck, but I didn't sit it very long since I was really after some other bruisers.... Amanda -
Covert II Trail Cam from CWT.com
CouesWhitetail replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Trail Cameras
Jbell, I talked to Joey at DLC about the issue and he says please contact him to resolve the issue. He is very easy to deal with and I am sure would refund your money if that is what you wish. Since you didn't buy the camera from me, I can only suggest you contact the dealer you bought it from or DLC directly. The camera was designed with a sensor that has a field of view slightly wider than the camera (2.5 degrees on either side). This is a good thing in some situations (like if you put it on a trail with fast moving animals). It helps catch animals that are moving quickly. But of course it can be a problem if the animal happens to stand just outside of camera view. If you don't like that feature you can just put a little electrical tape over about a 1/8 of an inch of the sensor so that it matches exactly with the camera angle. Or set it to take a three shot burst and you can catch the animal as it steps into view. Joey says he has sold a thousand or more of these Covert 2 cameras and has only had 2 people complain with an issue like you described. Personally, I have taken thousands of pictures with this cam and had very few blank images and those blanks seem to have been triggered by moving grass and bushes in the wind. I always have mine set on "high" sensitivity so it doesn't take much movement to set it off. Seems like a very easy fix with the electrical tape if you don't like the extra sensitivity range, but I haven't seen any need to do that in my experience. Amanda P.S. The folks over at Chasing Game discussed this issue and posted a picture of the camera with this fix on it. http://www.chasingame.com/forum/viewtopic....=35&t=12252 -

Covert II Trail Cam from CWT.com
CouesWhitetail replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Trail Cameras
Jbell, Sounds like you should definitely call Covert and tell them about your issues. These cameras have a great 1 year warranty, so if there is indeed something wrong with the camera it will be replaced free of charge. I certainly haven't had that problem with these cams and I have taken thousands of pics with them. I am not sure who you bought the cam from, but contact Joey at Covert and I am sure he can get any issues resolved. Amanda here are a few recent pics: -

Thanks for sharing the pics, looks like you are having success on your coyote pic quest. Did you put out some kind of attractant to get the coyote there? Amanda -
Wow, that buck is awesome! Can't wait to see more pics and hear the story! Amanda
