    Party at Jim Reynolds' house!

I had a great time at the party, thanks to Jim and Susan for making it a good time for everyone! We had some great food there and it was fun meeting many new people and spending time with those forum members I already knew. I can't say enough about the amazing antler collection Jim has. I have seen it before, but still it just takes your breath away and knocks you over when you enter that room! I took tons of photos of the antlers, but unfortunately I am having some kind of problem with the card and can't retrieve any of the pics!!! It's killing me, but hopefully Josh and some others will post more pics. Thanks to those that already have. Amanda
  4. hey, guys - i'm up at mt. lemmon and my jeep has a fuel leak -- trying to drive down monday morning. if you're a mechanic, particularly around the catalina highway area, can you help? figured i'd put the word out in the CW community and see if one of you is a tucson mechanic who can help. please call if so -- i don't have email access here (my husband paul posted this from home). give me a shout here at 520-576-1363. thats the number where i'm staying; call that one sunday night or monday morning -- cell reception is spotty here, but i'll be able to check messages monday morning once i drive down -- assuming my trusty jeep can make it! ~ amanda.... 520-576-1363 (sunday night, and for a while monday AM)

help! i need a mechanic in tucson (amanda)

Yeah, it's nice sitting on a potential bomb! Luckily I felt like it was safe so I didn't worry much. The mechanics weren't worried at all either, so I guess it was ok. Anyway, made it home without an explosion! It didn't smell so strong of gas driving it today, probably because I used enough going up the mtn that it was a little lower than the leaking seal. Amanda

help! i need a mechanic in tucson (amanda)

Thanks for the all help guys. I can't say how great it is to have guys I can count on for help. Within half an hour of my husband making the post I had people calling with offers of help and suggestions for places to take the jeep. Turns out the leak is where the seal is on the top of the tank. If I understood correctly it's where the fuel line comes out from the tank and fuel pump (fuel pump is inside tank). I had the fuel pump replaced not too long ago and they think it was related to that. So anyway, they said it wasn't the cause of any of my problems. So, I didn't get it fixed there, figured I would take it back to my mechanic here in case it was warrantied due to previous fuel pump work. The check engine light recorded a misfire in the 3rd cylinder (I remember when that happened as I was merging onto I-19 to go to Jim's party! Thought I was going to stall on the highway!) and they said the plugs needed replacing. And the injectors and such needed cleaning. So we did that and they said my radiator (the part with the fins on it to let the air in (condensor?)) was so plugged with dirt and bugs that it was likely the cause of the overheating. So they air hosed that at least a little cleaner (the mechanic was rather shocked at what came out of there...hehehe, doesn't anybody drive there jeeps in the dirt?? ). I will have to hose it down later still to get more bugs out of there. I know there is also a separate fan that is only working intermittentlly, but of course it worked fine while at the shop. Anyway, they said if that isn't working it makes it hard for the car to cool. They were pretty perplexed as to the stalling on the way up Mt Lemmon, but my guess is it was related to overheating. Anyway, the jeep ran like a dream on my way home. Perhaps it was because my wallet was so much lighter Again, thanks so much to those that called and offered help. Larry, I tried to call you back so we could have lunch while I was at the dealership, but it kept saying the cellular customer is not available. I tried a bunch of times. Maybe i wrote the number down wrong? Brent, thanks for the help! And thanks to Eddy Corona for help also! Amanda

    Party at Jim Reynolds' house!

Thanks Chris, that sounds yummy!! If anyone has a popup canopy tent that we can use for shade, you might bring it if it's convenient. I am sure we will need them, but it might be nice during the heat of the day. If you have extra chairs, bring those also. Looking forward to seeing you all there! Amanda

    Neighbor's yard

One of our neighbors thought they were hearing a mtn lion at night on their property. They are familiar with the sounds that bobcats make and they said this sounded like it, but much bigger. Anyway, I put out a couple Covert 1 cams and left them for a few days. Got lost of pics of critters. When I saw this one I thought, wow, they were right! But then I realized it was just a house cat! It's a hard life out there, check out the injury on this rabbit. And check out the injury on this javelina other javie pics Loads of quail families with tiny babies and "teenagers" other critters

Hopefully it will not be as painful as the "Kick Me" signs we unknowingly wore on out backs as kids. Ok, well, our admin assistant says you can show the letter we sent with the decals that says you are paid up until 6/30/2010. Did you happen to save the letter? Amanda

I wonder what took that leg off the javelina and punched that hole in the side of the rabbit. their propery borders the USFS land, so they have a great amount of wildlife. They even had some of my beloved coues deer come in.... Amanda

    First time with the cams

Yes, grass moving in the wind or branches moving in the wind can cause the cameras to trigger. If you scroll through the images, you should be able to see what moved in them. If you don't see the vegetation in different positions in the photos, then I am not sure what set your camera off. But I bet if you just scroll through the pics fast, you will be able to see the plants moving like animation created from lots of still pics. Amanda

    Cola Blanca Outfitters

This month we feature Cola Blanca Outfitters, owned and operated by Dan Bishop. The name "Cola Blanca" means white-tailed deer in Spanish and it's fitting since Dan and his guides are passionate about Coues. For the past 11 years they have been providing high quality Coues deer hunts in Sonora, Mexico. Cola Blanca Outfitters is also a licensed outfitter in New Mexico offering Antelope & Mule Deer hunts. Just check out this beast that scored 142 taken by Bobby Corruthers!!!! Several members of this forum have hunted with Cola Blanca and have written up stories about their hunts. here is Tommy Maldonado with his 108" buck & Jason Amaro with his 115" in Jan. 2008 And here is Tim Maddock with his 115 from Jan 2009. And here is Chris Denham with his 120" buck from Jan 2008. Cola Blanca has leases on several different ranches in Mexico. Dan has 11 guides that work for him on Mexico hunts and they guide about 50 hunters a year. Accomodations vary at each ranch, but all include a comfortable stay at the ranch house along with a dedicated cook to prepare excellent food for your during the hunt. Breakfast is usually simple and will vary from eggs, ham, chorizo, bacon, pancakes, hot and cold cereal, muffins, danishes, hot coffee and cocoa etc. Lunches are prepared and taken into the field for the day and consist of: two sandwiches, fruit, chips, juice & candy. Of course they have plenty of sodas and bottled water on hand. Dinners are special. Main dishes will usually consist of grilled chicken, pork, mexican Combination, spaghetti and steak. Side dishes are included along with salad and desert with each dinner. They are also hunting a Ranch which has a limited number of Exotics including ( Bison, Aoudad, Red Stag & Black Wildebeest). I went down to that ranch to help evaluate it's Coues potential and wrote about it several years ago. It's a great ranch with luxurious accomodations. You can read more about it here: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...?showtopic=8732 here are some photos of the auodad taken there: Cola Blanca averages about 95% success on Coues Deer in Mexico and a few hunters will harvest a 2nd deer so they have actually harvested more deer than they have had hunters over the past several years. When asked if they strive for trophy quality Coues, here is what Dan said, "We consider this a Trophy Coues Deer Hunt. We are hunting Dec. & Jan. during the rut on ranches with very little pressure, lots of deer and great Trophy potential. We are averaging bucks over the 100 trophy class 'benchmark' with about 20% qualifying for B&C. Our best is a 142" buck taken by Bobby Corruthers. We are outfitting on some of the finest Ranches in Mexico. We make the travel as easy as possible, providing all documentation, gun permits, visas etc... We are using experienced guides with good equipment and knowledge. We have great success and have a very high rate of repeat hunters. We feel strongly that you will not find a better Coues Deer Hunt!" So if you are considering a Coues hunt in Mexico, you will definitely want to check out their website. They have tons of photos and articles and video on their site. http://www.colablancaoutfitters.com email: dan@colablancaoutfitters.com Dan added, "'Cola Blanca' means Whitetail and that is our Specialty. We take great pride in offering top quality Sonora Mexico Trophy Coues Whitetail Deer Hunts. We offer fully Outfitted 5 day Hunts with 2 additional days of travel to and from Tucson, AZ. We are hunting exclusively on some of the finest ranches in Sonora and control the hunting rights to over 200,000 acres. These deer hunts will take place during December and January(Rut). So Come With Us and experience the charm and hospitality of Old Mexico along with some of it's finest big game hunting!" more picture proof:
