    Sportsmans Warehouse in Mesa

You might want to just call first and ask them if they have it. Of course that keeps you from doing any "impulse buys" so that's not so fun!!! Amanda

    Party at Jim Reynolds' house!

Some he finds, some he buys. He has been building that collection for decades. He has shot 9 B&C bucks and several others that are over 100 but not quite B&C. Amanda

    Covert 1 or 2 ?

Yes, you are supposed to be able to use a solar panel with these cams. I haven't tried it out, but there is a plug inlet on the bottom of the covert 1 and 2 that is supposed to allow for external power. I think you would get the moultrie solar panel and hook it to an external battery and then run wires from that battery to the plug-in on the cam. Since the AA batteries can last a couple months, I don't know why you would bother. The lithium batteries are supposed to last even longer than the alkalines. I just got a set of lithiums but haven't tested them out. Amanda

    Sunrise and Barn Owls

My dear husband and I took the dogs for a walk early this morning and enjoyed the sunrise. We also happened to find three young barn owls who live in a mine shaft. That was a neat find. I am thinking of putting a trail cam up on the site to get some video of adults feeding young. Sunrise over Chiricahua Butte.....what a treat! As we went by the mine shaft (we always have to put Julie on a leash around this one since she is very likely to just run around and fall in!), my husband says, maybe we should check and see if any Barn Owls use this mine. About a minute later he says he sees some peeking up at him. I go over and see three young owls on a ledge all peering up at me. Hard to get good photos because it was dark in there, but they were fun to see. They didn't hiss at us but they did fly to the other side of shaft to avoid us. This mine has a very strong wood structure that still covers most of the opening, providing good shade for the owls. And it has little alcoves where they can tuck away also. Looks like a great spot for them. Those that want to learn more about Barn Owls can visit these links: http://www.peregrinefund.org/Explore_Rapto...ls/barnowl.html http://www.owling.com/Barn_nh.htm two young on ledge in this pic (arrows point to them) single owl flying across mine shaft to avoid us single owl on a plank across mine shaft

What's wrong with this Muley Doe?

Just looks like a bad scrape to me. The kind of injury I have seen on road kill deer or bighorn sheep that fell off a cliff. Perhaps she had to escape a lion quickly and rubbed her side hard against something? Amanda

    Covert 1 or 2 ?

I use both and I like both. Essentially they have the same capabilities with video and photos, although the 2 extra LED lights on the Covert 2 get you a little brighter night pics. Some people just like the looks of the Covert 2 better. If you think you would like to use a tripod or the Tree-60 camera mount to put your cams on, then you have to use the Covert 2 because it has the threaded hole on the bottom and the Covert 1 doesn't. There is a camo version of the Covert 1 available now. I will post a pic when I get one. It will be a little more expensive than the green Covert 1, but you might like the looks of it better. Both the Covert 1 and 2 use the same remote to program them and the same SD card and all that. I like the Covert 1 because I can just set it down on the ground since it has a flat bottom. But I also like the ability of the Covert 2 to thread onto the tree-60. Amanda

    Unidaptor Binocular Question

No, you don't have to use it everytime. The allen wrench is provided to put the little round part on to make a threaded hole for the adapter to go into. Amanda

    My NM Turkey mount

At first that is what I thought, but it would have to like a foot long spacer. And then it just takes over the part of the room where it is. My husband thought maybe we could hang it over our bed, but in trying that it just looks odd unless you are looking up at it. Keep the ideas coming. Amanda

    My NM Turkey mount

Thanks for the suggestion!! That might work. Although I would worry about my dog Julie grabbing it or knocking the pedestal down. Amanda

    Sunrise and Barn Owls

They are kinda gargoyle-like, aren't they? You should hear them. The adults have this scream that will make you jump out of your skin. I was sleeping outside on some cots with my husband once and we had one fly onto a cliff by our heads and shriek, I thought a mountain lion was about to jump on our heads by the sound of it!! Wow, that wakes you up in a hurry! Amanda

    Any Archaeologists here?

Well, my hubby and I were out checking some trail cams this evening when we noticed a white circular object in the bank of the creek. He asked me if it was a shell or something and I looked and thought it was bone. We looked at it some more and noticed the suture marks where the bones meet on the skull and wondered what kind of skull it was. I took a little stick and moved some dirt to try and find a jaw and then found a couple teeth that sure look human to me. The whole shape is human and I think it's ancient. The wear on the teeth look like you see on ancient indian skulls in museums. I think it's pretty cool. It's underneath about 5 feet of soil and it doesn't really look like it was buried there since all the layers of dirt around it are intact. It's more like it washed down there and got covered with dirt over time, or just the force of a storm pushed the skull into the bank? I don't know. If any of you guys are trained archaeologists, let me know. I'll report it to authorities and perhaps we can get an expert out there to figure out how old the skull is. Would be really cool to know, don't you think? This is the overview, the skull is the white sphere near the bottom of the pic. there were some peices on the dirt below the skull too. suture marks on skull you can see the two teeth showing in here on the left side of skull. I believe the skull is laying on it's right side, with front of skull (jaw) facing toward left side of photo. View looking back toward bank and skull. Amanda

    Unidaptor Binocular Question

It is hard to figure out from the picture, but basically the little round part in the pic goes on the front of the hinge between the barrels. That little round part has a threaded hole that you can then screw the post into and then the shorter barrel screws on to your tripod head plate. Then the post that is attached to your binos slips into the receiver barrel on your tripod head. As with anything I sell, if you don't like it, you can return it for a refund. But I think you will find it works very well. Amanda

  24. This is a great program that I have been teaching classes at for years. This workshop makes a great gift for a special lady in your life! Amanda Beat the heat with a retreat in the pines. The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop is scheduled for August 14-16, 2009. The program will be held at Friendly Pines Camp near Prescott. It will begin at noon on Friday and end at noon on Sunday. These workshops are designed to welcome women outdoors with expert instructors teaching in an enjoyable, non-threatening environment. The August workshop will offer 32 different classes roughly divided into thirds. One part shooting/hunting, one part fishing and the third part non-consumptive sports like camping, canoeing and rappelling. There is something for everyone. One new class for 2009 is a falconry class where participants will get an opportunity to handle raptors. Another recent addition is an advanced fly-fishing class using float tubes. Classes are held during the day, and evenings are filled with fun and entertainment like night hikes, musicians, and storytellers. Participants stay in rustic cabins, but there are showers and bathrooms in each cabin. There is a central dining hall for meals. “There is always a lot of fun. I love to see the women interact and watch the camaraderie grow,” says Linda Dightmon, the BOW coordinator for the Arizona Wildlife Federation, which sponsors the program in partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department. “The only thing the participant needs to bring is her personal stuff, a good attitude and a willingness to learn,” Dightmon added. Equipment, materials, food and lodging are all included in the $240 registration fee. The only exception is Outdoor Photography class where participants will need to bring a camera. Enrollment is open to all women 18 and older. For more information, a schedule of classes, and a registration form, please call the Arizona Wildlife Federation office at 480-644-0077 or email us at awf@azwildlife.org.
