Monster Muley 236" 9x11 Down!!
CouesWhitetail replied to glassm'up's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Yes, it would be nice if you didn't use my forum to steer traffic to another forum. Especially when in order to see the pic you are referring to you have to join another forum. You aren't really adding content here, and instead are detracting from it... Amanda -

Jim Heffelfinger discusses them in his book Deer of the Southwest. here is some info on Carmen WT that he emailed me awhile back: "There is a smaller form of whitetail (Carmen Mt Whitetail) that is intermediate between the Coues and the South Texas whitetail that lives in the Sierra del Carmen, Chisos, Davis, and surrounding small mountain ranges. There is also the desert mule deer that lives in the Big Bend area" Scottyboy, got any pics of your buddy's buck? Amanda

I don't know any definitive way to know (other than genetic testing). But the way I judge it is just the shape and size of it. For a WT to be that big, it would have more mass. It's a fairly thin antler yet it's got a good beam and tine length, so it's likely a young mule deer. Maybe some other people have a better way to tell it, but it's just the overal shape and size of it that gives it away. If you look at enough sheds from both species, it becomes easier to tell one from the other. Amanda

Yeah, not sure what's up with that since I can see the file is there. I will work on it. Maybe I need to change the format. Amanda -

good to know, thanks for the update. When I was down in mexico we saw alot of does without fawns and I wasn't sure if it was because they hadn't given birth yet or if they were already predated. I think down there in sonora they are farther behind by a few weeks to a month in their breeding and fawning seasons, so I am hoping they just hadn't dropped the fawns yet. Amanda

Sorry to hear that Bill, but you seem to have turned out to be a pretty good man anyway! Thank you. At a very early age I decided to conduct myself exactly the opposite of how that man would have acted. Bill Quimby Congratulations Bill, it must take amazing foresight, determination and strength to break free of a past like that. My father isn't into hunting much, but he supports what I do, and enjoys reading my hunt stories! Amanda
