    Bizzare Antelope horns

Wow, that is very unsual! I have never seen anything like that. I don't think B&C would accept it for the recordbooks because it's such a freak! So it's not really scoreable under the B&C system. Amanda

    GFD does it again!

Thank you very much Brian for taking the time to answer some questions here. I (and many others) really appreciate it. We all realize that forums take a lot of time and you won't have as much time to come here as some might like, but we appreciate when you can come and clarify things. Amanda

    Happy Birthday Amanda

Hey Guys!! Thanks so much for all the great Birthday Wishes!! I sure enjoyed reading them and appreciate the kind comments. I did go out to NH and Maine for the last 10 days. We try and visit my husband's family out there at least once a year and we time it so we can enjoy the amazing fall colors out there. We hit it at peak this year and it was just fabulous!! I got back yesterday afternoon in time to get four new BFG All terrain tires for my Jeep. Yippee!! It's what I asked my hubby to get me for my B-day. I love new tires. They look great and are a great improvement over my worn out ones we bought two years and 49K miles ago. Anyway, here are a couple pics of foliage and lobsters. I will do a full trip report later in the non-hunting trip section. So you will get to see more pics later. Thanks again for your birthday greetings, it made my evening yesterday Amanda This tree took my breath away! A beautiful lake with foliage and mtn around it. my hubby and father enjoying 2lb lobsters! YUM!
  7. Thought you all might enjoy hearing about a quick trip to Mexico I took last weekend with Ernesto C. Ernesto and I along with a few other hunters from the forum are planning to do a self-guided hunt in Sonora in mid-Jan. So we went down this past weekend to check the place out, learn the roads, and maybe see some good bucks. It was an easy drive down there as it was not too far from Magdalena which is only an hour south of Nogales. We met up with our friend/guide Temo and the ranch owner's son Juan in Magdalena and proceeded to the ranch. The ranch is comprised of some spectacular country and I couldn't believe how amazingly green everything was!! Not 15 mins yet on the property and we saw deer on the drive into the ranch house in the middle of the day....a good sign. Friday afternoon was nice and cloudy and we were even blessed with a little rain while out glassing. We saw deer at every stop and found bucks frequently. Unfortunately the bucks are farther behind on antler development down there than they are up here in AZ, so we couldn't easily judge just how big these bucks would become. I think we saw 2-3 that had some great potential and many smaller bucks. We saw a lot does as well, but only two fawns. I wasn't sure if the fawns were still in the hiding phase or if they had already succumbed to predators. Hopefully the former. Anyway, instead of just posting photos, I made a short little video for you to enjoy. I LOVE going to Mexico! It's like stepping back in time to a simpler life. I really enjoyed spending time joking around with Temo and Juan. And of course my friend Ernesto was a pleasure to be around and it was great having him there because he could translate for me. Thanks Ernesto!! Temo made us some of the most amazing fish and shrimp I have ever had. In fact I loved it so much I asked for the recipe and made it for my husband tonight!! YUM!! Thanks Temo! And we had some great carne asada and wonderful tequila as well. Viva Mexico!! here is a link to the video. I only got a few of the bucks on video, but thought you might enjoy seeing how amazingly green the ranch was and watch for the giant ocotillo that Ernesto was glassing under. Not sure if I have ever seen on that big! http://www.coueswhitetail.com/video_clips/...ith_Ernesto.wmv Can't wait for Jan!! Amanda
  8. Guys, This is an easy way to help support our troops and a local nonprofit organization!! Surely you all have some extra hunting mags laying around. Collect them and bring them to an AGFD office on turn-in day (Oct. 13). Thanks Eddy (of Outdoor Experience 4 All) for coming up with this idea and making it happen! Amanda Donate an outdoor magazine Outdoor Experience 4 All and AGFD team up to help the troops!! When you turn in your hunt application, save yourself the cost of postage and help support our troops by dropping it off along with one (or more) of your used outdoor-related magazines to any department office. In an effort to bring the great outdoors and hunting heritage to U.S. military personnel overseas serving our country, the department has teamed up with the nonprofit organization, Outdoor Experience 4 All, by providing magazine collection points at all department offices through the spring draw deadline. There are locations in Phoenix, Mesa, Flagstaff, Pinetop, Kingman, Tucson and Yuma. For addresses, visit www.azgfd.gov/offices. OE4A is arranging to have all the donated magazines packed up and sent overseas to the troops while they are away. To learn more about the magazine drive, contact http://www.outdoorexperienceforall.org.

  22. A couple of years ago I introduced some of my lady hunting friends to squirrel hunting on San Carlos. Since then we try and get out every year. This year it was just Barbara and I, but we had a blast. The weather was awesome and we had elk bugling around camp. Can life get better than enjoying a campfire-cooked ribeye while listening to elk bugling in the moonlit forest? Nice! Woke up to cloudy conditions and a really neat fog rolling in the forest. I really love fog!! It's always nice to see and smell the woods in the moist air. The multitude of flowers blooming throughout the forest added lots of color. Anyway, we got into the squirrels and took several home. Also saw lots of turkey, some mearns quail and some mule deer while we were out. Thanks Barbara for making this trip happen this year! You are one adventurous lady! The squirrels were large and had GORGEOUS coats. Some pics:

I think they will take them sooner if you explain why. I am planning to drop some off at the Mesa AGFD tomorrow since I won't be around on the 13th. If AGFD won't take them early, I know Eddy will. Call him 480-529-8340 Amanda

    San Carlos Squirrels

I haven't tried them yet, but they smell piney and they were spending most of their time in the tops of trees chewing on pine cones. Amanda
