Please help me welcome Poison Arrow Gear as the newest sponsor of CouesWhitetail.com! James Jantzen is the owner of Poison Arrow Gear and has developed an amazing decoy for archery hunters. James opened his business in 2014 after seeing a need for a better decoy. He wanted to create something that was "small, light, and deadly". I think you will find that he has created an amazing product that you will want to take with you on your archery hunts to make you more successful. The decoy weighs only 3.2 ounces and it attaches to the last arrow in your quiver for fast and easy deployment. Because it is attached to your quiver, it blocks the motion of you drawing your bow. The decoys are designed to be facing head-on and to get the target animal to take notice and be distracted while you draw. I spoke with several hunters who have used this decoy on their elk hunts and they were completely impressed at the effectiveness of this decoy. Their comments included these statements "there is no other decoy like it", "lightweight, very useful and not cumbersome", "any bowhunter that sees it in use will want it", "used it last year and had giant bulls stare at me for a long time", "no tools needed, can deploy and put away in seconds", "everyone who bowhunts elk should have one". You get the idea...they couldn't stop with the praise for the usefulness of this decoy. James makes decoys for elk, mule deer, turkey, antelope and is making one for Coues deer soon. If you are serious about archery hunting, give this decoy a look. James is dedicated to pleasing his customers and even offers that he can make any decoy you want from a photo you provide. So you can have a decoy custom made for you! Maybe you have a mountain goat or sheep hunt coming up? Just get a good photo and he can make a decoy for your hunt. Poison Arrow Gear also makes a lifesize elk target that you can use to practice for your upcoming hunts. This target is made of woven fabric and can be hung up in front of your regular target so that you are shooting at a lifesize animal target. This gives you the benefit of being able to practice finding your kill zone on a lifesize target. James has also created a lighweight grill you might be interested in. For more information, please visit his website or even better, email James and talk to him about his product. http://www.poisonarrowgear.com/ Poison Arrow Gear 3300 Meadow Drive Del Norte CO. 81132 E-mail: james@poisonarrowgear.com

Some excellent info posted here! I think the key to hunting them is to find their roosts and set up nearby undetected in the predawn hours. Decoys are very helpful to convince a tom to come in close. You might want to attend a turkey hunting seminar if there are still any going on. I know several have already happened, but check Sporstmens warehouse and Cabela's for seminars. And of course it's very helpful to go hunting with someone who is experienced, you will learn a lot that way. Turkey hunting is addictive!

Very cool!!! Is this in your backyard? Do you have a pic showing the whole thing? I don't know anyone who built their own pizza oven, but what a fun idea. You should be able to bake bread in it too. I saw a show recently featuring some restaurant where they fire up an oven like that (but much bigger) in the morning and it holds enough heat all day to cook all kinds of things. And they schedule what they cook based on how it changes temperature during the day, so things that need the highest heat get cooked early in the day and lower heat later.

Guess the Score of this White Mountain Apache Coues Buck!
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Results have been posted here: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/2015/03/guess-the-score-of-this-white-mountain-apache-buck/ Thanks to all who entered, it was a fun contest with lots of close guesses! We had over 200 people enter the contest and about half of the guesses were within 4 inches of the gross score. We had 8 people guess within 1/8 of an inch of the gross score. So I am awarding prizes to those top 8 rather than just top 5 as I posted originally. Winners get a Dead On Elk and Coues hunting DVD and a CouesWhitetail.com tshirt. For the winners, please email me with your user name, real name and address, and top 2 choices for tshirt style, size and color. Tshirts can be viewed here:http://store.coueswhitetail.com/coueswhitetail-com-t-shirts NOTE: post edited due to an error and winners spreadsheet updated on results page....thanks Wallhanger for letting me know about my mistake. -
Guess the Score of this White Mountain Apache Coues Buck!
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I thought it would be fun to have a guess the score contest for this great buck taken by Richard Caddo in January on the White Mountain Apache Reservation. Congratulations to Richard! His two sons Ray and Ryan (ages 9 and 11) were key to his success on this hunt as they decided each day where they would go hunting. And where they chose was not where their dad had planned to hunt, but apparently they know the best places to hunt! Please guess the gross score (no deductions) to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. You have until April 8 to get your guess posted here. The five closest guesses will win a Dead On Elk and Coues DVD and a CouesWhitetail.com tshirt. Good luck and have fun with the contest! -
New Season of Cabelas Spring Thunder

Guys, please refrain from personal attacks. If you have issues with someone, please deal with them directly, offline. Posting this kind of junk doesn't help with anything. -
