Nice sighting! We had a bear in our backyard a few years ago in globe.

We had cows bugling near our camp a couple weeks ago on San Carlos. As has been said the cows make a high pitched sound that is like a partial bugle. Many years ago I filmed a cow bugling and it was in July. here is a video of a cow elk bugling from Youtube

It was a great evening! Thanks to all the veterans and all the CWT members who attended! I enjoyed chatting with everyone and seeing all you lucky people winning guns and gear. It's a really fun banquet! Thank you to SCI for organizing it and for all you do for wildlife in southern AZ! a pic of our group (it's only about half of the people from our 3.5 tables, but it was late and many had to leave earlier) and a few other pics from the event and poolside

I love my popup! but is was a "lunch box for bears" once.....just remember not to leave your food in it if you are going to be gone a while. Popups can give a false sense of security but they are just glorified tents and so easy access for bears. At least now I have cool bear paw tracks on the table which I sprayed with clear acrylic to preserve them! Luckily the bear did very little damage as the canvas just pulled away from the velcro and clips and didn't rip.

I backpack and hike a lot in those border units and haven't had major problems. But I check in with border patrol to find out if there is a lot going on in the area before each trip. Traffic and activity changes and so it's a good idea to get current info. You might want to contact forum member AZLance and see if he will share info with you. He works for Border Patrol and helps us out a lot. also, you might consider getting a Delorme inReach unit to help with communication while you are in those units. You can send and receive messages and have your location tracked every ten minutes and sent to whoever you set up beforehand to receive that info (like your wife or border patrol). Also a good idea to inform border patrol so they don't waste manpower chasing you down.
