BEAR VISITED OUR CABIN
CouesWhitetail replied to billrquimby's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Nice sighting! We had a bear in our backyard a few years ago in globe. -
We had cows bugling near our camp a couple weeks ago on San Carlos. As has been said the cows make a high pitched sound that is like a partial bugle. Many years ago I filmed a cow bugling and it was in July. here is a video of a cow elk bugling from Youtube

40th Annual AzSCI Banquet in Tucson July 11th.
CouesWhitetail replied to cmc's topic in Conservation Group Events
It was a great evening! Thanks to all the veterans and all the CWT members who attended! I enjoyed chatting with everyone and seeing all you lucky people winning guns and gear. It's a really fun banquet! Thank you to SCI for organizing it and for all you do for wildlife in southern AZ! a pic of our group (it's only about half of the people from our 3.5 tables, but it was late and many had to leave earlier) and a few other pics from the event and poolside -
I love it! Great idea for displaying skulls. Here is a pic with your sign lit up from the banquet night.

That's a great long life! It's so hard to let them go when they have been with you so long. But you got the most years out of her you possibly could. Thanks for giving her a happy life!

40th Annual AzSCI Banquet in Tucson July 11th.
CouesWhitetail replied to cmc's topic in Conservation Group Events
yes, I believe you can get the same discounted rate! -
I love my popup! but is was a "lunch box for bears" once.....just remember not to leave your food in it if you are going to be gone a while. Popups can give a false sense of security but they are just glorified tents and so easy access for bears. At least now I have cool bear paw tracks on the table which I sprayed with clear acrylic to preserve them! Luckily the bear did very little damage as the canvas just pulled away from the velcro and clips and didn't rip.

Happy Bday Shelvin! In addition to his great contributions here, he also is the main guy keeping up our CWT page on Facebook. Thanks Shelvin!!

Backpacking in border units?
CouesWhitetail replied to REDFIELD11's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I backpack and hike a lot in those border units and haven't had major problems. But I check in with border patrol to find out if there is a lot going on in the area before each trip. Traffic and activity changes and so it's a good idea to get current info. You might want to contact forum member AZLance and see if he will share info with you. He works for Border Patrol and helps us out a lot. also, you might consider getting a Delorme inReach unit to help with communication while you are in those units. You can send and receive messages and have your location tracked every ten minutes and sent to whoever you set up beforehand to receive that info (like your wife or border patrol). Also a good idea to inform border patrol so they don't waste manpower chasing you down. -
I received the surveys as well....I haven't been home much so didn't get the first one filled out before I received another one.....I haven't read it over completely yet, just saw it had to do with landowner access
