AZ to Park City to Coast of Oregon
CouesWhitetail replied to DUG's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Great trip...love the photos and nice sticker! -
Thanks everyone, it really helps to know you guys are praying for me and wishing me the best. It's still very painful....hard to move at all. And that is even on pain meds! Hopefully the pain won't last but a few more days.

Boar shot on Friday
CouesWhitetail replied to Buckhunter's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the pics and story. -
Thanks so much guys. I posted an update in the other threads...I am doing ok.

I am sure the Gorgonzola burgers contributed to the problem. I ate alot of cheese the week before the attack and fatty foods need the gall bladder to digest so it was working overtime. They said the gall bladder was extremely inflamed...

thanks so much for the prayers and well wishes. I am home now and doing ok. It's all very sore and hard to move around, but not too bad. Doc says no driving or lifting or jumping for at least a week. UGH... i had planned a bunch of fieldwork for this week...that would have involved some serious hiking in steep country. Guess I am just homebound for awhile. Thanks again. It sure made me feel better knowing you guys were praying for me. You should see one of the stones that was in my gall bladder! It was a lot bigger than I expected and apparently they had to break up the stones just to get the gallbladder out of the hole. I told the nurse I was doing bird research and trying to figure out why birds eat gravel...LOL!

Ok, the date has been set! John Sneed of AllStarBass.org is organizing the tournament for us, so it will be done professionally and using all the standard bass tournament rules. Date: August 7, 2010 time: 6 pm to 1 am launch location/registration: Cholla Launch Ramp, Roosevelt Lake Entry fee will be a total of $100, $80 for the tournament and $20 for Big Fish. Payback will be 80% (except for Big Fish, which will be 100% payback) and we will give prizes to one boat per every five boats entered (so if we have 20 boats we will have 4 places for prizes, 30 boats will be 6 places, etc). You can pay the entry fee at the lake when you register. Let's make this a great tournament!! If you plan to fish this, please post here so I can get an idea of how many boats we will have. Please help spread the word...the more boats...the more people can win and the more money goes to help this site!

Gorgonzola cheese and grilled onion venison burgers
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Cooking Wild Foods
Thought I would share this meal with you all since it's a first for me. I don't usually cook with gorgonzola cheese, but picked some up the other day at trader joes, along with some creme fraiche (fancy french sour cream). Gorgonzola is a little like blue cheese but not so strong. My husband loves blue cheese on his burgers and we were out so I thought this was a good substitute. Yesterday I made a bunch of venison sausage and mixed up a batch that had worcestershire sauce, wine, oregano, roasted garlic, black pepper and some hot chili powder. I used that as burger meat for tonight and my hubby smoked the burgers on the grill and grilled a bunch of onions with it. Then I took the grilled onion and put them in a pan and mixed in some gorgonzola cheese crumbles and some creme fraiche to make a nice cheesey onion sauce. We put the onion sauce on the burgers and WOW it was TASTEY!! I should have put some mushrooms in that sauce too! here are some pics: -

Also, for safety, we will be asking for cell phone numbers when you register for the tournament. We want to make sure that everyone makes it safely off the water and if someone doesn't show up at weigh-in, then we will be calling to try and locate you. Let's make sure everyone has a safe and fun tournament! -

What tricks have you learned from other in camp?
CouesWhitetail replied to scoutm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I do that! Or at least I put them in an hour or so before I get out of the sleeping bag. I usually enjoy some coffee while still in my sleeping bag and let the clothes warm up then...much, much nicer! -
Thanks Tony!! Nice article.

CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Fishing
Sweet! Thanks to all who are planning to attend! I am looking forward to this. Likely I will only be there for registration and not weigh-in, so please take photos of everyones catch so you can post pics when you get back! Please remember that John Sneed is the tourney director and his rules are the rules for the tourney, so please respect and support his decisions out there. He is volunteering his time to run this tournament for us, so please give him a big thank you when you see him! Weather might be rainy and windy according to the forecast for the Roosevelt Lake area tomorrow afternoon....I hope it's not too bad.... See you all tomorrow afternoon. -
hehehe, now Ernesto is getting dragged into the plot....

That lion thread did seem to prompt alot of people to post photos of their mounts and several of you requested that I add a taxidermy subforum. So I have done so. I hope it is useful and fun for you all.

I enjoyed the thread while it lasted. That was the most civil discussion of it's type in the history of CouesWhitetail.com and I think that is primarily because of TAM and the way he led the discussion. Thanks to all who added thoughtful, productive comments in the thread. TAM told me he had more than enough of what he needed from the thread and he wasn't interested in seeing it go so far downhill, so thanks to everyone for helping him out.

coues deer foundationknow they
CouesWhitetail replied to azcoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think it's better to have the two deer together in the AZ Deer Association. It takes a lot to run an organization like that and there are some economies of scale that make it better for both species if they are together. So I think the AZ Deer Association raises more money for Coues deer as a joint mule deer/coues deer group than it would if it only served one species. But that's just my take on it.... -
Welcome back!! Coosefan is an easy target right now because his computer isn't working and he is out in the woods alot lately anyway!
