My sons 1 st bull..... With a muzzleloader!

Outstanding! Congratulations on a great bull and amazing first elk hunt! -
Well, personally, I would rather football isn't discussed here, but I eventually decided to let that slide because I don't receive complaints about it and many members seem to enjoy it. I have never had anyone say they can't stand CWT anymore because there is so much discussion about football and spark plug wrenches. I don't have people telling me their families feel threatened by football or automotive threads. The political threads are the most divisive and cause the most headaches for me and the moderators. I wouldn't care about the political threads as much if it didn't tend to derail the point of the forum and drive people away. So basically, I take action in moderating content when I get complaints and it's causing a problem for the forum. Otherwise, I tend to let it slide.

Why are we discussing this on a hunting website? If you want to engage in political discussions that are not related to hunting, please go to a forum created for political discussions. There are plenty of them. I have requested many times for discussions here to be kept to hunting and outdoors related things. That's what this site was created for.

I was thinking the same thing. Many thanks to those who have offered to help! That's awesome! I know when I was hunting elk solo, I was always worried about being able to get help when I got one down. I had friends on speed dial, but they would have had a lot of travelling to do to get to me. Nice to have local people available to help. Great job guys!

Garmin has recently joined up as a sponsor of CouesWhitetail.com and they are excited to let hunters know about some new gear they have available. One is the VIRB action camera that is a very rugged camera that is small and easy to use to film your adventures. But it goes way beyond what a normal action camera can do by adding in sensors that measure all kinds of things like the speed you were going, the temperature where you were, your heartbeat, your distance travelled, angle and elevation changes and so many more interesting things that can really help bring life to the video of your hunt or other adventure. here is a look at the camera and here is a video of an archery deer hunt with it. You can see how they overlay the heart rate info to make it a more interesting video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo3hFzgQLQE&feature=youtu.be You can learn more about the VIRB on garmin's website. They have a cool video that demonstrates some of the things you can measure and then overlay that data onto your video. http://virb.garmin.com/en-US

Garmin's new action cam! check it out!

neat video, I like the underwater part best! And I see it showed elevation in lower left and then is that your path in lower right? -
Your phone has GPS built in. GPS works regardless of cell service availability.

AZ treefrog and although it's not particularly uncommon, I still think it's special! Nice find!

You sat 20 yards next to a sleeping bear for hours? WOW! that's an experience right there! Glad he didn't wake up hungry for you!

Thanks for the info on the new app. There are several that do the same things with downloading maps and allowing you to make waypoints and use it offline. I use Backcountry Navigator and love it. You can add in photos of the place you are at and store it with the waypoint that you create. This app has worked great for me when I forgot my GPS, as long as you have downloaded the maps ahead of time so it will work in an area with no service.

A friend of mine killed a cow there a few days ago. I don't know where though.....but she said it was very open country.

Welcome to the site! Thanks for joining up and saying howdy!

Just a reminder - watch out for spiders!
CouesWhitetail replied to mattys281's topic in The Campfire
To help locate black widows, look for their telltale messy web. They have a very disorganized, large, stringy web, unlike any other spider I know of. If you see that web, then you can come out at night and look and usually the black widow will be on the web for easy removal. During the day they can hide in little spaces and not be visible. We had one living in our outdoor rocker and I could never find it in the cushions. Turns out it was in the hollow metal post that was part of the rocker. Waiting until dark to find it was the key for us. -
And thanks Brandon for sharing some info on your hunt, cograts again on a STUNNING buck! I can't imagine killing one that big!

CouesWhitetail replied to Adicted's topic in Elk Hunting
Way to get it done! Congratulations! and thanks for sharing the hunt with us! -
Also, probably better he sends the tag directly to Eddy. He has to sign the tag and fill out the donation form which is on their website. Then mail to Outdoor Experience 4 all and they can get it transferred to a youth.
-
Call Eddy Corona of Outdoor Experience 4 All, he can likely find a youth for the tag. you can find his number and more info on their website: http://www.outdoorexperienceforall.org/

Looks great! -
Glad you decided to join up! Welcome and thanks for the introduction!

Nice talking with you Shane. I recommend you contact Eddy Corona of Outdoor Experience 4 All and he can arrange for the donation. You can find his phone number and the donation form on their website. OE4A takes kids with serious illnesses out hunting and also take Wounded Warriors out hunting with these donated tags. http://www.outdoorexperienceforall.org/ There is a tag transfer form on the website and you can just fill out page 2 of that form and mail it to Eddy with the signed tag that you are donating. But feel free to call him first and learn more about his organization and find out if he has someone that can use the tag. I just donated my archery elk to them the other day.
