Well, if you are planning to attend the AGFD expo March 26-27, you might be interested in participating in the Sportsmen's Challenge. This is a shooting competition to help raise money for the Hunting and Angling Heritage Work Group. That group focuses on promoting safe, ethical hunting and fishing in Arizona. The event is being coordinated by Outdoor Experience 4 All. This will all be with .22 rifles which will be provided at the event (you can't use your own gun). Clay targets will be set at varying distances with specific shooting positions. Distances will be measured from the firing line to the target. This event will be a timed competition based on the score and time of the three man teams. Each 3 person team pays a $100 entry fee. Awards are given to the top teams. For more info, see the attached brochure. or email Eddy Corona at corona2000@cox.net 2011 Sportsmens Challenge.pdf

Please help me welcome the Outdoorsman's Resource Guide as a new sponsor. This guide was created by Craig Steele (aka CEI) of CEI Outdoors, publisher of the Resource Guide. I have looked through this and spoken with several people about this guide. It is extremely useful for all aspects of hunting or other outdoor adventures. You can find contact info for AGFD, USFS, BLM, and other land management agencies so that you can plan your trip. You can find law enforcement phone numbers, medical centers, restaurants, lodging, taxidermists, guides, locksmiths, gas stations, meat processors, and so much more. It's broken into statewide resources and regional resources for all of Arizona. It really is an amazingly comprehensive resource guide. It's like an outdoorsman's phone book with lots of extra info! Craig even added in some great information about hunting and fishing in the form of questions and answers. Here are some example questions that are answered professionaly in the guide: "can a friend carry a firearm while accompanying me on a hunt?" "Can I hunt with an attractant or bait for big game?" "Can I have lead shot in possession while hunting both waterfowl and quali on the same day?" There are articles about processing game and scoring antlers. And there is lots of information about fishing as well as hunting. Thanks Craig for creating such a valuable resource and for becoming a sponsor as well as donating several Resource Guides to our Coues and Elk Contests. I encourage you all to check out the guide and get a copy for yourselves. The guide costs just $9.95 and really would come in handy. here is a link to the website: http://outdoorsmansresourceguide.com/

The amount of suffering and destruction is truly devastating. Our whole church is praying for them.

Some of the southern units (36A, B, C) have left over tags often for all the hunts (including the rut hunt). These are great coues deer units, but you have to deal with the illegal immigrants/drug traffic that goes on down there. But that's probably your best bet for getting a Dec Coues tag. Otherwise, use the draw odds book that AGFD puts out to find units and hunts that are fairly easy to draw. HOWEVER, not all units have good access to public land, so make sure you look at hunt success rates too and balance high draw odds and good hunt success to find a good unit. Also AGFD puts out info on each Game Management Unit and discusses things like public land access. Use that to make yourself aware of issues in a unit. here is the link to the draw odds book: http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/HuntAZ2010.pdf

Hey All, I don't know how many of you are familiar with or are currently members of the Record Desert Whitetail Club, but they wanted to let members know that the annual gathering is at Nevada Smiths on March 20, 1400-1800 hrs. Folks need to rsvp by March 15 to Ms. Shelton at 579-2966. This is a group that has been around for years and you have to have killed a 90 inch coues or better to get into the club. I went to the gathering one year and really enjoyed it, they do a dinner and everyone brings racks from bucks that year and it's a lot of fun. Amanda

Brandon McDermott was lucky enough to get to hunt Oryx on the White Sands Missile Range with his buddy Mark Boulanger. Brandon shot this one that scores 36 1/4. He shot this Bull at 820 yards using a 30-378.

5th Edition Bowhunting in Arizona Record Book
CouesWhitetail replied to Mark Sipe's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Oopss! I just realized you were talking about the Bowhunting in Arizona recordbook.....I am actually not involved with that one. I am on the trophy book committee for the Arizona Wildlife Trophies book (not archery specific). We just came out with the 2010 AZ Wildlife Trophies recordbook and that is the one I described above. Sorry for the confusion! -
and how do you scald the cream?
-
Congrats to Jimmy!

YUM!! Looks great Hector! Like you said, I have been having fun cooking lots of stuff with those spices Stan gave us. It's amazing stuff and just so easy to add great flavor to anything. They have different masalas (spice mixes) for all kinds of stuff like salad masala, chicken masala, etc. Hey Chef, what's the reason for "scalded" heavy cream vs just putting some heavy cream in?

If it's the Covert HR 8.0, Gino is right, they had some issues with the blur and issued a software upgrade. You can still get that upgrade if you haven't already or another option is to lower it to 5 MP rather than 8. apparently and 8 MP cam has to keep the aperture open too long in order to gather more details for the higher resolution pic.

5th Edition Bowhunting in Arizona Record Book
CouesWhitetail replied to Mark Sipe's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Hey guys, I am on the trophy book committee and so I will be glad to look into your case Gino or anyone elses. Send me some details in an email so I can approach them about it. amanda@coueswhitetail.com I will tell you that this new recordbook is an excellent one!! It has a great history of all the wildlife transplants that have occured in Arizona (sheep, antelope, deer, javelina, etc). And it has some great hunt stories and stories of some amazing individuals in the hunting community. That's in addition to listing all the trophies in the state. It's a great book and I think anyone would enjoy a copy. Amanda -
It would be nice to hear AGFD's version of this story......it all seems so ridiculous from what you have told us.

Bill Quimby I am in no hurry, so give her all the time she needs to decide. I would love for her to have it too. Maybe I will send her a PM to make sure she sees your offer. yes, I have your address. Hey Bill, If his neice doesn't want the copy you have, I will take it. Amanda -
It doesn't seem bad to me...what do you think is bad about it?
-
Wow, that's really sad. I am amazed you can get a ticket for "taking game in a closed unit" when you didn't even actually get out and hunt it. That really floors me. Thanks for sharing your story.
