    COLORADO RIVER FISHING TRIP!!!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your trip!
  2. I wish you all a great birthday!!
  3. Hey All, Ben Brochu of AGFD has asked for support for a water catchment project to help deer in 37B. Both he and I would love to see a lot of CouesWhitetail.com'ers show up to help. You don't have to stay the whole weekend, even if you can donate one day's worth of your time, that is very helpful. Dates are March 8-12, 2012. I will be there to work on the project....who else is interested? These are really fun and useful projects and it's a great time of year to get out there camping in the desert. We usually have a good turnout of CW.com people at these projects, so let's continue the trend! here is a link to some pics and info from one we did in 2010. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17733 If you are planning to attend this project, please let me or Ben know, we need a head count because food will be provided Saturday night. map and directions attached. Collaboration on a Massive Scale

I don't know how many of you have ever heard of the site ted.com, but it's a fascinating site that has tons of videos about technology, entertainment and design ideas. My church recently was using some of these videos to create discussion about faith and so I started looking around and found this really interesting video that I thought you all might enjoy. It's about using the internet to accomplish tasks that seem like they are just too large and expensive to accomplish.

    Collaboration on a Massive Scale

    Interesting stuff Non-typ!
  6. Hey All, This great buck was killed by Marshall Collins who is from South Carolina. Luke Weisser (AZ Ground Pounders) and Jay Lopeman (Mossback AZ) were the ones that guided on the hunt. I spoke with Jay about this hunt and he said Marshall was so happy about his hunt and he says this buck will be one of his greatest trophies ever. Marshall is a whitetail fanatic but this was his second hunt for Coues. He really has an appreciation for our little Coues subspecies and although he isn't smiling in the photos, he feels truly blessed to take a great buck like this. The buck scores 133 5/8. It has a little bit of a drop tine on it's right antler. Apparently the year before it had a bigger drop tine! Amazing deer!

    AES Banquet

Sounds like we have 9 people committed. The tables are tables of 8, but there is another member buying an additional table where we can have overflow too. I will likely sit over there so the remaining 8 of ya'll can sit together. So we can also fill up Matthews table or get a 2nd separate table as needed. So speak up if you want to go! Committed for the 1st table, I have: 1. Mark 2. Christine 3. Hector 4. Orlin 5. Phil 6. Steve 7. Ryan 8. Ryan's wife When we buy a reserved table the cost is $100 per person. You get a dinner ticket plus $40 of raffle tickets. If someone wants to sit at the CW.com table, but doesn't want the raffle tickets, then you can just pay me the $70 for the banquet ticket and give me the raffle tickets. You can all pay me at the banquet by check or cash. Kathi will mail you tickets as long as you tell her you are with the CW.com table and tell her how many you want and make sure you include your mailing address. I am looking forward to seeing you all there!!

Locked gate on state trust land

This was my intention from the start. My dad was The Chief Hunting instructor when I was younger. He always said "if you do things the right way you almost always get what you are working towards!" He also said " even if you don't get what you want, you can still sleep at nite when you go about it the right way!" This man pounded it into his kids heads, do things the legal way not the "BONEHEAD" way. All three of his boys are successful law abiding citizens who love this country and the freedom to hunt and fish. I talked at length this afternoon with the G&F on the specifics of my complaint and was assured they would be out to the area and complete a very through investigation and give the results as soon as possible. Without Amanda's help with this situation I believe I wouldn't have as much response or as much info as I do have. Thanks again Amanda! You are welcome I am always glad to help! Thanks to the AGFD personnel and State Land Dept for being so responsive. And thanks for not cutting the lock Stephen!

    My favorite new radio station

There is a radio station in Claypool (97.3) that changed hands and changed format. I have been enjoying the new format and figured several of you might also. I think it broadcasts out into phx so many of you might be able to pick it up. Or you can listen to it online: http://tunein.com/radio/Funny-973-s33139/

Locked gate on state trust land

Thanks to the State Land Trust Dept for calling me and providing this information for me to post to help everyone with these issues. AGFD is working to get their policy out so I can post that as well. Apparently AGFD is the lead agency to investigate locked gates and they are investigating this particular locked gate reported in this thread. AGFD encourages hunters to report locked gates blocking hunter access on public or state trust land. Please note, I blacked out the location of the gate so as to draw attention to this hunting spot.

    ADA and 2072?

Hard as it may be for some to believe, I suspect a large percentage of membership are probably unaware of the bill....I believe this survey will educate some people about it as well as asking them their opinion.

    ADA and 2072?

The ADA board remains opposed to HB2072 as written and although it's taken awhile to get a survey out to our membership, we have been working on it and it should be out this weekend. For some of our members we do not have email addresses, so some will receive letters, some may even receive phone calls. We intend to find out what our membership is thinking. So if you are a member of the ADA, please respond to the survey when you receive it and give your honest opinion.
  16. How much money do you all think needs to be raised to address the issues brought forward by AZSFW? One of the major issues is funding for political campaigns. For instance, lets say one of the anti-groups comes up with legislation that would ban bear hunting and mountain lion hunting. With the amount of money they have to back up a political campaign, how would hunters stop something like that? Personally, I am very worried about that scenario and that type of situation is why I believe it's important to address fundraising for lobbying. I also believe in the need to address declining wildlife populations. Would predator control help with that? I think it would...does AGFD have to be very cautious about how it approaches that? Can they effectively do predator control? I think not due to the political incorrectness of the issue. So how do we effectively control predators to increase wildlife populations? One way is the approach the ADA has taken which is to fund lion hunters and coyote hunts to target specific areas. How many of you would support raising money for predator control?
  17. Thank you for sharing your suggestion DB. This is the kind of stuff I would like to see this discussion move toward. If this proposed expo is not the way to raise money, then what is the solution to the problems? Hopefully further discussion here and at the AGFD public meeting on the 22nd will get more ideas to the surface.
  18. Steve is correct....AZSFW will be meeting with the critter groups to try and gain support on this bill. In fact Suzanne made a presentation to the ADA board last night and will be moving on to the other critter groups. Suzanne will likely be making the same presentation at the AGFD public meeting on the 22nd. AZSFW believe whole heartedly in the need to solve the problems they outlined in their open letter to the sportsmen. And they believe that HB2072 is the way to solve them. While I agree with the need to raise money to solve the problems, I don't think this is the way to do it. I think this bill has been way too divisive and I think we need to come together as sportsmen to find a way to solve the problems that need to be addressed. Personally, I think the only way to stop it is by extraordinary pressure on the legislature and governor. So far that has not really happened. Unlike Steve, I don't believe that the uproar in the forums or lack there of has anything to do with AZSFW course of action. I think railing against this bill in the forums without contacting your reps is wasting time and energy. I suggest anyone wanting to stop this bill get to work writing their reps and the governor. Personally, I am very concerned about the precedent this bill sets as I think it moves us toward the privatization of wildlife.

I was, but I went for a much cheaper popup camper instead. Lark was looking for one I think also.

Pretty cool that you have a neighbor that is a member here, but kind of ironic that you are posting on the internet to find out who your neighbor is!! LOL!
  22. Just an FYI - there is a trash cleanup this Saturday March 10, from 7AM-12PM in Redington Pass. The cleanup will be at milepost 6 on Redington Road in Unit 33. There will be lunch provided for all those who participate. This is a cooperative effort between several different groups including the Forest Service, Game and Fish, Tucson Rod and Gun club and others.
