Final wording for the Bait Ban
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Hey All, I wanted to share this final wording of the bait ban rule that I got from AGFD. This wording seems clearer than some of the older wording that has been posted in other threads. So, as I understand it, you can still put out salt and hunt over salt. So regular salt or water softener salt or salt blocks are acceptable. You may also hunt over water. Here is what it will say: 4. An individual shall not use edible or ingestible substances to aid in taking big game. The use of ingestible substances to aid in taking big game is unlawful when: An individual places edible or ingestible substances for the purpose of attracting or taking big game, or An individual knowingly takes big game with the aid of edible or ingestible substances placed for the purpose of attracting wildlife to a specific location. This subsection does not limit Department employees or Department agents in the performance of their official duties. For the purposes of this subsection, edible or ingestible substances does not include: Water. Salt. Salt-based materials produced and manufactured for the livestock industry. Nutritional supplements produced and manufactured for the livestock industry and placed during the course of livestock or agricultural operations. quote from AGFD email: "So water softener salt, table salt, or organic sea salt are all perfectly acceptable. But a salt-based product produced for something other than the livestock industry will not be acceptable. You can place a mineral salt lick in the field and hunt over it. Further, if it is a nutritional supplement, it must be placed there for the purposes of livestock management, not hunting." -
Excellent!

Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.
CouesWhitetail replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think the idea that we should all try to be as unsuccesful as possible so that we can save opportunity for all is ludicrous. Congratulations Steven on your success. I am sure your hunters are very happy with their opportunity and their success. People hire guides to make them more successful, and it makes no sense to me to bash a guide for being successful as long as he is employing legal means of hunting. Based on Steven's success this year it's obvious to me that he can help his clients kill deer with or without bait. -
nice! thx for sharing your pics!

Does Hunting Harvest Affect Horn and Antler Size?
CouesWhitetail replied to azmetalman's topic in The Campfire
DB, I doubt they excluded whitetail in the study.....they just didn't mention it in the list press release. But later in the article they did say they analyzed 25 B&C trophy categories and given that whitetail are the most studied and hunted ungulate in the US, I really doubt they excluded them. I will let you know after I read the monograph. Amanda -
Does Hunting Harvest Affect Horn and Antler Size?
CouesWhitetail replied to azmetalman's topic in The Campfire
Normally I appreciate the research published in the Widllife Monographs, but this just has me shaking my head. "Instead, the analyses provided moderate support for intensive harvest of males as the most likely explanation for the declines, which lowers male age structure, allowing fewer animals to reach trophy status prior to harvest." DUH!! that's just a basic idea in wildlife management. If you want trophy antlers, reduce harvest pressure so that the bucks/bulls/sheep/whatever reach an older age. good night, that knowledge has been around for a long time. I would hardly call that a "surprising finding". -

Thanks for posting this Chris.... -
I am not a tax guru, but I would assume you can't claim expenses for a non-dependent. I used Turbo Tax as well and you can use their online live chat feature to ask questions. They take awhile, but you are "on hold" online and can be doing other stuff and they will tell you ever few minutes in the chat window what number in line you are. They answered my questions for me and I suspect they can answer yours. Go to their website and look for the support options and select live chat (or whatever support option you want). It's free.
