Congrats! I have only eaten the antelope jackrabbit from down in the southern units but they were indeed mighty tasty! -
Great Time in the Woods-Squirrel Hunting with your Kids
CouesWhitetail replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Youth Hunters
Congrats on a great family outing! P. S. I fixed the pics for you. -
I have never aged squirrels in the fridge...sounds like a great idea. I do that with my venison, but for some reason never applied that to squirrel. I love squirrels, they are great eating. I usually crockpot mine with mushroom soup and make a stroganoff. Thanks for sharing your recipes! Squirrel hunting seems to be under appreciated in this state. It's a great time to be out in the woods and you get to bring home great table fare.

Bummer! I got sick in the middle of my elk hunt a couple years ago....it sucked! I kept hunting everyday but it was exhausting being sick while hunting. Everyone responds differently to the over the counter meds....what works for me doesn't work for my husband sometimes. But usually Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) will work for me to relieve stuffiness from a cold. I also try to drink lots of water and airborne/vitamin C mixes. Eat well and get lots of rest. Maybe you will get lucky and it won't develop into a big cold....maybe it will just be a few days of mild stuff.

Could not believe my eyes
CouesWhitetail replied to capoeirajosh's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Might be good if we keep comments in the other thread, since it already has three pages of comments... http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/43699-could-not-believe-my-eyes/ -
yes, the road that goes up Russell gulch is the main road. Once you get to the part where you can see the south side of the mtn, you can either drop south to dripping springs or head east toward signal peak (top of mtn). The dirt road that drops to Drippings springs can be a little hard to see, but once you can see the view of all the mtns on the south side, look for a dirt road that takes off to the south.

Wow, congratulations and thanks for sharing the story! That's some serious excitement right there! Good thing you had that lion tag with you! I am sure the deer are happy to be rid of that lion!

You can take the main dirt road up and over. It's a pretty decent dirt road with some amazing views when you are on the back side. It's shorter, but not necessarily faster than going around to dripping springs....just depends on exactly which part of the mtn you are wanting to hunt.

The lady that teaches self defense at the AZ Becoming an Outdoorswoman workshops is very well liked by the students. I will try and get her contact info. in the meantime, here is a link to the BOW page with info on the program: http://www.azwildlife.org/ht/d/sp/i/60573/pid/60573

I love the havalon knives! Havalon came out with a new one this past year called the Baracuta Blaze, it's a longer thicker blade for hunters. The one most people have used and are recommending is the Havalon Piranta, which has a smaller blade. It's still a good idea to carry a traditional, heavy bladed knife along with the havalon since the havalon knives can break if you use them to twist something apart. http://store.coueswhitetail.com/categories/Knives/
